Will We See VGC Reopen Soon?

My best guess would be that they will want it reopen in time for the event, they might even do a limited reopening of the regular hotel side, after all Knott's reopened their hotel when they started doing the food festivals.

I think it's very likely, too. My family and I have reservations in May so even if DL isn't open by then, if VGC is open and there is still some kind of festival, we will still probably go. We have points we need to use this year, otherwise we'll lose them.

I was on the phone with DL Guest Services yesterday and asked this specific question. The cast member I spoke with had no information of the opening of VGC. We have reservations in early March and I was hoping she would give me some information but nothing. At this point, my expectation is that we won't get to go. If they open it will be a nice surprise.

We have reservations for the very end of March. I'm hoping that we get to go and attend this new festival that was just announced. But not I'm worried since the festival is ticketed that we won't get tickets...

You don’t need 1000 people to run a few food booths, so...
Well, the 1,000 people are including the 300 or so that are already working, so that is an additional 700. To look at how many would be needed, we will need to make some assumptions here:
  • Event is at least 8 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is highly likely because of union requirements, but will use this as a bare minimum model.
  • We will assume that most locations that have outdoor dining available will be open in some form (we will leave out Fiddler and Claribelle's as they could even be open now), again likely with OC still in purple tier that locations with no Outdoor Dining will be open for the event.
    • This would include:
      • Quick Service Restaurants - Approximately 5 cashiers, 3 cooks and 2 managers or others per shift, 2.5 shifts plus 0.5 of a shift for over lap for days off means approximately 30 CMs per location. 15 locations = about 450 CMs

        1. Lamplight
        2. Wine Country Trattoria
    • Total CMs for additional food locations alone: 750 CMs
  • Additional shops will also be opened, probably around 50 CMs total
  • And they said there would be socially distanced entertainment, which further adds to the number.
So, 1,000 CMs for just an event at DCA may actually be too low of a number, especially when added to the number already working.

That doesn't mean the hotel won't reopen for the event, but if it does, it is entirely possible those CMs won't be part of this count, but is entirely possible the hotel won't reopen for the event. If the dates for Knott's Boysenberry Festival are any indication combined with other Cedar Fair parks in California announcing a late May opening, it is entirely possible that theme parks plan to reopen by late May and if that were to happen, which I will believe when I see, I would expect the hotels (except maybe the Disneyland hotel) to be reopen in some capacity before then.
