Wilderness Lodge Mess

My sister called today and was offered $50 off per night and the water park tickets. She was not offered the $500 credit towards another resort. She even asked the cast member why some guests were receiving the credit and not everyone. The cast member acted like she'd never heard of this mysterious credit. :rolleyes1

Did you sister just talk to the CM or was she elevated to GS - the $50 per night credit and water park tickets appears to be their *cued* response to foks? I was offered the same - and only when I asked about staying at another resort of my choosing to have an actual pool and paying the same/similar per night fee - did they elevate me to another person within GS who was able to do more.

I didn't stomp my feet or get angry with them despite it taking 3 different calls to get somewhere, I just told the CM how staying at a resort with a 1-year old and 3-year old without a pool would be awful for us - and the water park tickets and shuttle to the CR/FWL pools would not be conducive to my family at this particular time. That's when he told me he would be back, talked to GS and then eventually transferred me to another person...

You're moving to BC, correct? Did GS take anything off the rack rate of your new room or did you just get something in the same price range that you had at WL? I was confused about the offer to my TA to move me to a "comparable" room at CR (if one was available). How is that a deal? I can cancel WL and move myself to CR if it's available. I don't need Disney's permission for that. What is Disney really doing for me in that case? (Not to mention that Disney's definition of comparable is based solely on price and mine is based on features).

She spoke to GS and didn't stomp her feet or get angry. Why would you assume that? She's a very mellow person, but she did call the cast member out on not knowing about the $500 credit. Disney is notorious for having 10 cast members that will tell you 10 different stories 10 different ways.

We did move to BC, which comparatively speaking is more expensive that what we had as our rate at WL. GS compensated our rate on the room at BC to align with what we were scheduled to pay at WL.

Huh? That was in response to others who said they didn't want to stomp or get angry - I was just noting that I did neither and it took several calls but GS finally helped out.

Sorry. My mistake.

Good for you and thank you for responding....that's exactly what I wanted to know.

Just curious, but did you ask for a discount and they said no? I hate confrontation myself and am not a foot-stomper, but if others are getting a discount, I would like one as well. Have not had the courage to call yet!

I did not ask for a discount or even mention that I heard people were getting a discount. I just can't bring myself to do that. I mean I am paying a lot of money to stay there too. I dunno maybe because I work in customer service and I don't wanna be that guy.haha. But I would appreciate something. Anywhoo maybe il call back and see if a woods view room has opened up.

Thanks! I am just going to have to be firm, but polite as I can and see if I can get the $50 a night off. I know I will be kicking myself if I don't try. Maybe this weekend...

I like that idea, firm and polite!

I have a Woods view coming up Sept 27-Oct 4...

If I booked through Orbitz, do I have to wait until I get there to voice my concerns? I doubt Orbitz can do anything for me over the phone...

I finally called and also got no where. Our dates are Nov 14-20 but we are on a BB so the availability might be different. We were offered AKL which I said is too far from MK. Or CR garden wing. GF, despite the fact many have been changed there, was not open aside from a 1 bedrm suite (I think they checked BB).

We were offered a rate reduction to stay at WL.

We are going Nov 20-26. We are booked room only because we are AP holders. Room only or AP discounts aren't out yet for then so I haven't called yet. Does anyone know how that would work if get room credit now and discount later? Should I wait until discount comes out. I think we will stay put at WL but certainly want credit if others have gotten one. Of course too this was first time I was upgrading to courtyard view because it is our anniversary trip. So disappointed but I do understand the need to upgrade things.

Personally, I would wait until (if) room discounts come out so you can see what you're actually paying before negotiating a credit.

I am reading through the post and now wonder if we did get the best deal. We were at the WL with a CY room and bunk beds. When the announcements were made, it was initially going to be a little noise and not too much hassle. As time went on, we started to see the trend between WL and Poly, so we upgraded to a 1 bedroom at the VWL. Then we heard about jack hammers and at that point, our vacation that we had been planning and saving for 5 years and 6 months was starting to crumble around us.

I decided to be fair and called the number from the letter. The first gal I spoke with said pay or stay. She was nice about it, but I was not happy with that. I understand how it works, so I asked to be transferred to GS and spoke with a lovely gal. I explained everything about how the trip was a big 5th birthday surprise and that we had saved and planned for so long. Explained that we met them part of the way by trying to stay in the same area, but move to a different location for more money. I explained that things were starting to feel worse and we were greatly concerned. She put us on hold for about 10 minutes and came back with BLT 1 bedroom, lake view. No price change and we got to keep our free dining.

I feel like this was a good deal and a good move. The place looks lovely. We lose the theme that we wanted, but 10 minute walk to MK and looking over the water to see the water parade. We noticed it was ranked higher than the GFV and a lot of people seem to prefer it even if the rooms aren't as big as the GFV. The gal we spoke with looked to see if it was an option, but they were totally booked.

I feel like we were taken care of and we are happy with things on our end. Thoughts?

I would be happy with that. BLT costs more than VWL, so you saved a lot of money.
I hope they offer to move me at the same price when I call. I looked to try and change myself and the cost difference is way too high and very limited availability.

Has anyone heard if those staying on points have gotten the letter? We arrive on Aug 31...staying in the villas and haven't had any communication from Disney!

I wish we could have gotten in to the CR but alas, it was all sold out except CL when I got around to calling - I'd say you made out for sure. :thumbsup2

We originally booked a stay there in a CY bunk bed room also and I was able to secure points for a VGF studio last fall. At the time, I was not sure if we made the right decision, now I am.
