Why we think Lightning Lane is wrong

Just to show the effectiveness of the new ADR system, I went on the app this morning to pull a few samples.

If I were at Disney today, I could have visited several of the most popular restaurants.

There's an ongoing rumor that the wide availability is due to fewer TS guests. This is not true since the amount of diners appear to be similar to previous years. I think the app/programmers have finally caught up with guest behavior.
You keep missing what people are talking about.

And you keep reminding people how "ineffective" Disney is based on what you read on the internet.
? yeah no not following you here. Based on reading on the internet? :wave2: Actual experience thank you very much.

What you're doing is trying to say "but look Disney has improved" something of which even I touched on. But the discussion started when someone described how they could tour at Universal. It didn't matter that you had several posters backing up what that person was saying you were debating Point A that wasn't part of the discussion.

All your screenshots and discussions actually bolster the other poster's viewpoint that fact that you have to do those things to begin with to eat at Disney. It's like you view this as a personal slight :confused3 how Universal is being discussed or how Disney is being discussed IDK. It's just them explaining how they can tour more to their liking at Universal, no harm no foul here.

I suspect those people are very much in the minority, but that's just a guess.

I'd be fine with it being more limited and/or being more expensive, but Disney is setting the price for their own benefit, not mine.

There's another way to look at this: It increases the set of attractions I visit in a trip.

Back in The Good Old Days of paper fastpasses and unlimited late returns, I would routinely leave the park each night with a pocket full of unused FPs for top-tier attractions. Because it was possible to ride them all several times with low waits, it was always hard to take time away to see the "lesser" attractions. When the various changes rolled out---return times being enforced, then advance booking, etc.---that because harder and harder to do. And we noticed that we started going to the "other" attractions more often.

And guess what? Those were lots of fun too.
100% on this - we have done many new things when we just go with times and what we are near. We just visited Tom Sawyer's Island for the very first time last week! Good to get that in before it goes away.

Oh, that's a good reminder that I should hit TSI this trip. I think it has been a good decade since I was last there.

Tom Sawyer Island is something I enjoyed on past trips, it was a nice break from the chaos that can be MK. And riding the Liberty Belle as well. I know people would often cite it as a place they could picnic (like eating their own food they brought in).

Being mad and feeling like people are cutting in line is valid. Feelings are ok. It's up to the individual how to handle those feelings.
Cutting the line is never okay as far as I am concerned.

But what we are talking about are two completely different lines. There is the "free" line and a "fee" line. Guests can pick which one works for them, but they are two different lines until the merge. No one in the "fee" line is cutting the "free" line.

3 and only 3. Sorry - I thought I made that clear. The YouTuber super-users who can cut absolutely every line if they stay on their phones long enough is all the proof you need that the system is far too generous.
This was absolutely a thing with Fastpass+ too. Power users were one of the reasons why it was so broken fundamentally.

As with most things, once you understand the rules of "the game" and have the motivation to play it - the more successful you'll be in playing "the game".

I would submit that describing it as "broken, too generous" may be a substitute for not wanting to play the "game" that intensely.

Oh no it was just a flawed system in general. The power users were just a part of the problem, not the entire problem. But that's been discussed to death already. I was just replying to the user I quoted that the "free" option (because it was never really free) had the same issue as the paid one.

I don't know if you've ever coached kids or been in charge of a group of adults (I have done both), but if there is a flaw in the "game rules", 100% someone will find a way to exploit it. I feel the need to repeat this; the more the "game" flaws are exploited, the more the STANDBY GUEST loses in time and patience, not Disney. There is noting that kills your day faster than the crawl that is the Frozen or SDD line at the peak of the day. I will also repeat this; ANYTHING that Disney can do to reduce all the line-cutting would be a huge improvement.

Then don't be the standby guest if you value your time and patience. The options are simple:

1. Pay and move quicker.
2. Don't pay and move at the standby speed.

It's perfectly fine if you prefer option 2. Why do you feel the urge to remove a choice from other guests just because you can’t have it or don't want to utilize it?

Because you are not paying the people you are cutting in front of.
