Why so Anti-Christmas?

I don't mind when other people decorate early, and I do LOVE Christmas, but I also love Thanksgiving, and won't move the cornucopia aside for the Advent wreath just yet. We'll put up our Christmas decorations and take down our Thanksgiving ones on Friday.

It bothers me when STORES decorate early, because I feel that they're just pushing me to BUY BUY BUY. I hate that. I like shopping because I *want* to, not because ohmygosh,it'sChristmasandImustspendmyselfintodebt.

I used to get all my Christmas shopping done before the first decoration came out in a store. Now that's impossible, no matter how early you start!

I guess I am one of those who believes that the whole meaning of Thanksgiving is being lost by the encroachment of Christmas. Thanksgiving is not just a day to overeat and watch football while getting ready for 'black Friday'.

I guess that while growing up I was fortunate to be in a family that truly gave thanks on that 4th Thursday of November; that remembered how grateful we are for what this country has given us and what it represents; grateful for family; and grateful to remember those whom lost their lives in fighting for our country.

I'm not saying that those who put up Christmas lights prior to Thanksgiving are slighting Thanksgiving, but it can certainly give one that impression.

I don't see it that way at all. Thanksgiving means a time to give thanks for family, friends, those who have given so that the rest of us can live...I see the birth of Christ fitting in very well with this idea. My family has always had the Christmas tree up for Thanksgiving. It just adds a special festive touch to our celebration.
