Why Not Now? Reaching weight loss and fitness goals in 2016--All Welcome!

Biggest temptation? That changes daily! Currently it's king cake from Meches. I won't post a pic. It'll ruin us all.

Biggest temptations? Baked goods-cakes,cookies,pastries... Just visualizing it will trigger me craving it!

I also enjoy baking, especially at the holidays. I told in family this year I wasn't going to do all of this past holiday and they were nice about it but all said it did not feel right without the same baked goods as every year. I only mind hearing that from my boys. I just cant have them in the house.

I have always been a slave to cravings; sweets, chocolate, pasta, steak/burger every now and again...

Was able to follow MFP plan for one whole week. Woo-hoo! Weight today 187, so down three pounds. I'm happy with that. Exercised 7 days in a row (walking on treadmill and using stationary bike for 45-60mins/day, i'm definitely not a heavy exerciser :D) DH is doing well on it also and we're a bit competitive with each other, so I think that's helping. :-)

For the QOTD, my biggest temptation is potato chips. I could eat a large bag in a couple days. So i've still been having them once in a while, in the prepackaged small bags for around 100 calories so I can limit myself. I have no willpower with a large bag.

I'm a bit scale obsessed so trying to weigh in once/week. I did cheat last week and peek at the end of the week though...

I'm a late-comer, but I'm in! I'm in my mid thirties. I have three young kids, and I work full time. I want to lose 25lbs total. I did the Marathon Weekend 10k (mostly walking and with virtually no prior training) and I plan to do the half marathon on the Dark Side weekend. My struggle is having tons of kid food around trying to get toddlers to eat--especially the carb-heavy diet they go through. Fortunately they eat vegetables well and love many protein packed options. Other good news is that my husband is totally in on the diet and fitness breaking point.

SO MY GOALS:

1. Change diet. Lean Meats, Vegetables. High protein. Etc. Cut empty carbs, minimize alcohol calories. Track calories. I use the SparkPeople site (it's free) to keep track of these. Eat regularly and not let myself get 'starving'.
2. Train for and walk/run a half marathon in under 15 min mile. Book other runs and keep training regularly -- 12/15 miles a week minimum.
3. Lose weight. I want to lose 30 lbs total but I'll be quite happy with a 25lb loss. That will put me at my pre-kids reasonable maintenance weight.
4. Drink water. I tend to forget to drink water and then drink non-water at night.
5. Sleep well. Goal 8 hrs a night.

I'm starting today. Have tracked my food. have had at least 67 oz water so far. Feeling pretty good so far. Just have to figure out when the heck I am going to get in 3/4 miles of walking/running! I can walk our dog but my dilemma is that it is quite icy up here most of the winter; we have a treadmill but it is so loud that I can't do it while the kids are asleep. But there has to be a solution, and necessity is the mother of invention.

QOTD: What is your biggest temptation?

baking anything. I love making treats with my lil princess. She likes making cookies or cupcakes. Problem is nobody but me eats them. I need to figure out a fun way for us to cook together and not create a ton of calories for mommy to eat.

Bleh! Terrible weekend:crazy2:...

I was good about weighing in and packing my lunch each day...but then DH made an entire crock-pot full of venison chili:stir:...and that was my dinner for two nights. Then, I succumbed, not once, not twice, but THREE times...to my pastry cravings:sad:. Ugh! On top of that, I haven't made it to the gym since last week so there has been no exercise either.

Alrighty, well....time to put the past behind me and get back on track. I weighed in this morning at 169.5 which is what I expected. The kids are home from school today (snow day:cold:) so I may not make it to the gym today either.

This is a long journey and there are going to be bumps along the way so I am not going to let this little set back get me down:yay:.

Weighed in yesterday at 156.4.

Have done ok counting points, except for Friday, but still didn't go crazy, I just don't like using my weeklies. I tend to eat when stressed, and my stupid ex husband left message on my office phone at work and the whole day just went to hell in a hand basket after that (we have no contact & my office phone is only # he has).

I have been brewing my own green tea during the day, and chamomile tea at night. Plus, I've been doing the oil pulling to get all the toxins out of my system....side note--coconut oil is a very good conditioning treatment for hair!

I've been trying to stay away from too much processed stuff. I did break down and have a couple of ginger snaps over the weekend, but that's it.

Still on fence about he fitbit, but if I do get one, I think I've made up my mind to get either the Flex or Charge.

EDIT--oh, and did get on that blasted devil's machine this weekend. Have plans on getting on there again today after work.

I need to start drinking my morning green tea again and get regular with oil pulling. I do it because I have some bad teeth that have caused some issues and it keeps the infections at bay while I have no dental insurance to deal with them and such a low income I just can't squeeze it in anywhere. ;) Yes is fantastic on hair too.

QOTD: What is your biggest temptation?

Sugar hehe :rolleyes1 Doritos or salt and vinegar potato chips(generally not a fan of potato based chips but salt and vinegar is tough to look past) OR candy/chocolate are the big ones though. I don't buy them that often though. Dark chocolate is somewhat beneficial an I don't consume too much because the bitter taste prevents me from going too far.

137.5 today.
Biggest temptation right now is the Krispy Kremes sitting on my counter. But usually it's potatoes (chips and french fries).

Oh yeah Krispy Kremes would be kinda hard to resist.

And cupcakes. Did I mention cupcakes? Sigh.
Yeah but thankfully those aren't around except for birthdays. And when its my friend throwing the party thankfully she picks whipped frosting so I have an easier time avoiding it because whipped gives me a tummy ache.

Way to work out. It's no wonder you had a big loss. Don't burn yourself out though. Nice to have the competition going its great motivation.

I'm a little late checking in, but I'm down 1 pound for the first week!

Yay on first pound down. I'm down .3 Been consistent the last two days. The 10th was up .9 from my start. So glad its inching down. Now to get in a better on track week and see if I can get it near 2 lbs.

Bread Bread Bread...Sweets Sweets Sweets...anything really when I am bored and mindless eating or stressed out

bread is pretty easy to resist for me but sweets hard. Especially when bored or mindlessly doing stuff(tv or gaming).

Now I'm working at changing my primary Dr assignment so I can get in for my refills. I hope by next year to not have these hoops to jump through. My primary dr office closed a couple months ago. I moved to the one they say they consolidated. I dunno. I'll try it out despite seeing few but mostly negative reviews. I hate Dr. shopping almost as much as I hate making phone calls. :rolleyes2 The insurance lady wanted to know first name on the Dr. I dunno she didn't tell me any of them. There are 3-4 that work together(related I'm sure) at several locations. Pick one I don't care if its like others I'll never see him anyway. I have a feeling I'll be finding another one in a few months though. I'll give it a shot because I don't have time I have 3-4 weeks supply and I need refills. They might want to see blood work but I just hope they will at least do bp meds continued. I'm not sure how long I can take the intestinal cramping from the other med for a mildly elevated glucose. I'll have to crack down on macros and keep carbs in check to see if I can lower and control it with diet alone.

We missed our Just Dance game session last night. It was late by the time we thought to get to it and skipped it. We will have a session when dd gets home from school. I'm going to get started on some lifting before she gets here. My arms still kinda sore from Sundays long session(about 2 hours long). :scared:

Happy Wednesday! :)

To think about for today:

What's your favorite non-traditional vegetable (don't include potatoes, peas, green beans, corn, broccoli, carrots, spinach, lettuce)?
How do you like to prepare it?
What's your least favorite vegetable?

Just discovered this forum and this thread:

Name: Bob Iger(just kidding)
Male
Age: 41
Weight: A lot
Goal Weight: A lot less

I'm down 23 pounds since Halloween, using Weight Watchers. Very little exercise during that timeframe. So the eating plan is working for me, now I just need to factor in the activity as well.

My work/life schedule is CRAZY until the second week of February, so between now and then I'm just focusing on hitting 10,000 steps a day, and if I have time to do yoga, great.

My goal this year is to run my first 5K. There's one in April that I'd love to do, if my schedule allows.

I've developed a training plan for that, and will do yoga on the off-days. Really hoping the added exercise will accelerate(or at least keep steady) my weight loss.

Good luck this year, everyone!

I like brussel sprouts and alfalfa sprouts. Brussel sprouts roasted in the oven and alfalfa sprouts in a wrap are my favourite way to have them.
I have tried probably ever vegetable out there and there is only on vegetable I absolutely don't ever want to eat again it was okra. I generally love any vegetable and open to eating them all different ways. I may have a few other favourites that are different but just can't think of them this morning.

Crazy weekend hockey, hockey and more hockey. My sons blade got a big chip taken out of it in the second period of yesterdays game so was out for the rest of the game. Bummer. Was up until 2 am trying to book all of our cruise excursions and doing online check in. The website was not holding up with all the action. Spent the morning getting my sons skate repaired just in time to head over to the rink again. DS hockey team went to go see Starwars after practice today. I am so ready for bed :) Temperature prediction for tomorrow here minus 18. Yuck. Going to have to decide on another option to get my exercise in tomorrow.

-18? that's terrible! it was 9 here this morning with windchill of -5 so that's like a heat wave for you!

QOTD: What is your biggest temptation?

Sweet and salty. I love any kind of chocolate dessert. I guess I pretty much like any type of desserts lol. I also have a big problem with chips. I can eat a bag of doritos or salt and vinegar chips in 2 days. The best is combining them into chocolate covered potato chips. Mmmmmmmmm....

I love asparagus and brusel sprouts. Are they common? I drizzle some olive oil on them with salt and roast them in the oven. Yum!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I missed checking in the last 2 days but I definitely thought about everyone! I'm still doing good with the eating and exercising. Although this week is hard to fit the exercise in. We have a concert tonight (county band and my nephew is in it) so I probably won't get a workout in. Tomorrow I will hopefully be trying out my new shoes and heading to the gym for a run. My old ones have way too many miles and I noticed my feet hurting Monday. I hope the shoes solve that problem!
I'm at work right now but on my break/planning time. I took a day to do IEPs and progress reports so I am in the building, but not teaching. It's pretty nice to get some stuff done around here!
I'm going to go get ready for my lunch and then get more paperwork done later. I'll be back tomorrow.
Have a great day!
Jill
