Why Not Now? Reaching weight loss and fitness goals in 2016--All Welcome!

To think about for today...

It's two o'clock. You have had a crazy busy day. You forgot your lunch. You are STARVING. You have 15 minutes before you have your next commitment for the day.

What do you do?
I would visit the nearest vending machine or convenience score and get a bottle of water, a pack of nuts (low salt if possible) and a piece of fruit (most stores seem to have bananas now). And I would hopefully learn that I need to keep healthy choices around for days like this. :)

I tend to weigh myself every day just so I can see if I am hanging in there or need to work harder. I used to have a fitbit, now I have a misfit shine. Its nice and usually gets noticed a lot. It is just like a fitbit except it is waterproof and looks like a watch. I like seeing how many steps I have taken and it is good motivation cause if I see I am close to goal I will make sure to keep moving so I can make goal.

I am bad cause I tend to grab whatever I can find to snack on. It tends to end up being empty calories.
I tried the shine and it didn't have many features for android (at the time). Not sure if that has changed. I did like the way it looked.

I am a planner so at work I have snack options I could grab but would probably clean them out if I was starving.....If I didn't have those snacks available I might have to hit the vending machine and HOPE they had something low carb (not likely). THIS is why I try so hard to plan.

In the car I would stop for a snack..but you can still get something on plan.
Planning is key. :)

Depends where I am but I will quite often grab a coffee to stop the hunger feeling if I can't access some food. If I am on the road and there are only quick less healthy food options I sometimes will order from the kids menu so I have something to eat but portions are small so less damage is done.
Ordering from the kids menu is a good idea. :)

I'm interested since losing weight is my New Year's resolution. I weigh 140 (I am short and small framed so 140 is a lot for me) and would like to lose 15-20 pounds. My Jan goal is 5 pounds. I do a weight watchers like diet and walk. I am 42 and stay home so I can snack all day. I have twin DDs-17 and DS-19.
Welcome! Glad to have you join us. :)

Wow. This really puts stuff into perspective! My boys are still at home at 12 and 9, but I hope I see them more than 10 days a year after the leave for college!

I feel like I've made major changes this week like no pop, no mindless snacking, no desserts, and more workouts. I've tracked my food and..............gain 0.4 pounds. Seriously? I better step it up! The last time I needed to lose weight, I did cardio 2 days a week, yoga one day, and strength training 2 days.

I am signing up for a half at the end of April or beginning of May. I need to decide which one to do. Here's my list. Any experiences with the following?
1. Pro Football Hall of Fame April 24 (Canton, Ohio. I actually did this last year. I did the 5k on Saturday and Dan Marino high-fived every finisher! The half was Sunday)
2. Capital City Half April 30 (Columbus, Ohio) Any info on this would be great!
3. Pittsburgh May 1 (my sister's done this and enjoyed it)
4. Flying Pig May 1 (Cincinnati, Ohio) Any info on this????
5. Cleveland May 15 Anyone???
Or any suggestion for this time in western PA, Ohio, or Western NY?

I have a calendar all ready to write down my training runs, but I need to decide on a race first :confused3 I am so indecisive about everything.

I am happy to see new faces here. I love reading everyone's posts, it's very motivational to me. So, thank you all! I'm off to finish up laundry and make a grocery list for this weekend's shopping trip before I forget to. Have a great night.

Jill
Hi Jill.

Have you looked at the Kentucky Derby Half in late April. It's about 75 minutes past Cincy and very, very flat and fast. It is usually the weekend before Flying Pig, but this year they might be the same weekend. The only thing I know about Flying Pig is that it is hilly.

I am sorry about the small gain, but you have definitely made some major changes this week. :)

And that article really moved me...really put things in perspective.

C

I had physical therapy this morning and she really worked the knots out of both of my knees. Unfortunately, it left me very sore and tender. I had intended to go to the gym, but I just couldn't do it. I was crunching and popping (which isn't really bad because it was due to the fact that she'd unwound all of my connective tissue) so I decided to stay home and get some work done.

Tomorrow starts my first shift of 4 in a row, and it is also my last 7a-7p shift. On Saturday, I start a 5a-5p shift so my sleep cycle is going to be disrupted this weekend. I'm going to attempt to get to the gym on Saturday after work, but we'll see how that turns out.
Hope the change in shifts goes smoothly. :)

I like ordering off the kid's menu too LOL my lil princess gets the toy while I get a portion smart snack that will hold me over for quite awhile.
Great plan!
I just got a fitbit zip (it clips to my pants or bra...and I think it probably the cheapest in line...I hate things on my wrists on in my hands), I actually won it in a virtual half marathon I completed. I have been toying with the idea of getting one for some time but I have been to cheap to step up and buy one...but after now using it for a week I AM IN LOVE WITH IT and wished I would have bought one myself long ago. I have a few friends, family and DIS friends using FitBit and the challenges they give me are so much fun. My little sister and I are on weekly challenge against her and we keeping going back and forth who has the most...we cant let the other one win! So motivating!!!! I get up from my desk a lot more trying to up my steps. It also connects to MyFitnessPal which is helping with my diet part of my new years resolution.

IF ANYONE HAS A FITBIT I WOULD LOVE TO BE YOUR FRIEND...PM me and I will give you my email.
Gladyou are enjoying your fitbit!

To think about for today:

List three positive things about this week. :)
No buts in the answer and they have to be positive. :)
I drank my water 6/7 days.
I got exercise in every day.
I am keeping up with my squat challenge. To date this year I have completed 315 squats. :)

I used MFP everyday
I was in my target calorie range for each day
I lost 6.6lbs in the first weeks WI this morning
Wonderful!!

Hi-I am Jennifer and I would like to join in.

I am 50, married with 2 DS(17 and 19). I am looking to lose 50 lbs this year. I was at a high of 238 last yr and currently am at 225. UGH...hard to see it in print. I want to be at 175 by the end of the year.

I have had some health issues that have caused chaos in our lives the last few years. I get bad bouts of vertigo-they can last weeks and I wont be able to get out of the house or drive at times for months. So it makes things a bit challenging at times. I hope to get off my meds for BP as well.

Currently I am feeling pretty good, so I have been walking a little more. That is one of my 3 positives. 2nd-getting a few more veggies in. 3rd- lots of water.
Welcome Jennifer! Great to have you join us!

Positives are:
I got my daughter to eat healthier this week
I lost a pound
I cleaned out a lot of "stuff" in order to have less clutter for moving next month.
Wonderful!

1. I exercised 3 out of the last 4 days.
2. I met my targeted calorie intake the last 4 days.
3. I had so much energy after my workouts that I've been doing some deep cleaning around the house.
Super!

I would like to join. I used to be a regular on the WISH forums but had surgery on my heel & achilles tendon two years ago. Have gained all the weight back that I previously lost and am ready to get back on track! I weigh 185 lbs. and would like to get to 140. My goal for January is 5 lbs. Let me know if you need any additional information.

I'm 47 years young and am still adjusting to having an empty nest. (DD - 20, and DS - 18 are both off at college). Life has thrown me a few challenges lately but no more excuses. I'm disgusted that I've let myself go like this but that all changes today.
Welcome! I am an empty nester as well with lots of foot issues. :) We are happy to have you.

Happy Saturday!

What are you doing that's fun this weekend?
Are you spending any time this weekend getting ready for the week ahead?
Did anyone buy a powerball ticket? :)

I have added in everyone to the first page.
If you are missing please let me know.

If you would like me to track for you please just post current weight or pounds lost. I am calling 1/10/16 my weigh in day, but you are welcome to have me record from whichever day you would like.

Doing a little cleaning after 4 miles on the treadmill this morning. I was supposed to do 10 miles today but it iced with a layer of snow all yesterday and last night so I wont be getting out...which really bums me so I will try to get in at least another 2-4 miles on the dreaded treadmill. I love having that option so training on a treadmill vs outside is better than nothing.

I need to think about getting prepared for the week...but luckly for me the plan that I am following is pretty easy with stuff I need to take with me during the day. Its night time that kills me...I need to prep protein now instead of having to wait when I am starving when I get home.

HAHA Powerball actually I have 75 tickets that I own a share in with 28 other teachers, office staff and cafeteria staff from school. We got together a pool on Friday of $150 and I bought the tickets, which was a whole new experience for me as I have never played before...okay ages ago when drawings first started at state levels but never bought a powerball ticket. I feel sorry for those at school that did not buy in...should we strike it reach. Really all I want is about 3 million personally to live the rest of my life comfortably and help a few family members to live comfortably.

It's two o'clock. You have had a crazy busy day. You forgot your lunch. You are STARVING. You have 15 minutes before you have your next commitment for the day.

What do you do?

Push through and keep busy (mind off of matter)...hopefully I have a snack in my purse that I normally carry that is approved on the plan that I am using for losing weight. I usually keep a little package of almonds or for real emergency a Quest bar. Also chug a bottle of water.

To think about for today:

List three positive things about this week. :)
No buts in the answer and they have to be positive. :)

1. Walked every day at least 4 miles intentially
2. Perfect Eating on Plan plus logging for 5 days straight
3. Stayed away from the scale and focused on eating and exercise

No Big fun plans this weekend but friends are super excited about playoff games and having a party.....

I get my snacks and such ready for the week today. it's just easier.

Bought powerball tickets with some work friends...

It's been a good week. Food was on plan and water and excercise were on point! Keep moving forward!

I've got a couple of questions for y'all....

Do you weigh yourself every day?

Those of you with a fitbit...are they a good motivating device to have? I'm looking at either the flex or the charge. I don't think I need the charge HR for the heart rate stuff. Best Buy has the charge cheaper than the flex right now.

I weigh myself everyday. Fluctuations are annoying of course but I watch trends. For the purposes of this chllenge, instead of a one day weekly weigh in, I'm using a Monday to Sunday average. Id hate to have the weigh in on a day that fluctuated up or down.

Doing ok this week. :) Got at least 30 min of light cardio every day and my foot is holding up. Keeping up with my squat challenge for the month--55 on tap for today. Successfully drinking my water. Working on keeping things in perspective. :)

I mentioned it above--but also on day 7 of no soda and I think I am mostly giving up caffeine as well. Still will have my black decaf in the morning.

This afternoon I have a phone screening for a job I am very qualified for. I could not tell from the posting if it was full or part time, but I said in my cover letter 2x that I wanted part time, so hoping that is the case. Fingers crossed. :)
You're doing great. Cutting soda is hard. I love it but I've cut ack over the last year. I hope it gets easier.

I think I was over ambitious with my goal of 6 exercise days a week. I'll probably end up with 3. My schedule is so chllenging that I'm struggling to fit it in. I think I should have started with a smaller goal and try to build each month.

To think about for today:

List three positive things about this week. :)
No buts in the answer and they have to be positive. :)

1. I got back to running after not running since a Thanksgiving 5k. It felt great!
2. I tracked my food daily.
3. My boys both have their first indoor soccer games. I love watching them play and I get to hang out with some of the greatest people on the sidelines (us soccer parents are really close at the field and off).

I'll have to look into that one. Thanks for the suggestion! I've heard Flying Pig is hilly. I know Pittsburgh is, too. I honestly don't mind hills. If I leave my house to run, I either start uphill or end uphill, so I'm used to them all over here lol.

Let's see, I went to DS12's soccer game. I'm watching the Steelers game right now. Tomorrow we have DS's marching band banquet.

I spent time last night checking out some new recipes from skinnytaste that we haven't tried yet. I made a menu for dinners this week and went grocery shopping. I also just ordered a new pair of running shoes! I am so excited to get some new ones but so sad at the cost of shoes!

I bought my own power ball ticket and I'm in one at work. I think 59 of us are in for $5 each. If we win, our school district will be hiring a lot of people very soon!

I think a few people from our school didn't play either. I couldn't be that person to not play with so many others. I'd refuse to show up if they won & I didn't put in!

I am looking forward to weighing in tomorrow. Even if I don't lose any weight, I'm still so pleased with my week. I ate healthy, ran two days, did 30 day shred, did a yoga workout, and only had 1 Diet Dr. Pepper. I have also slept much better this week. I think being part of this group has a lot to do with my positive attitude. So, thank you!

I'm not sure I'll be on tomorrow except to weigh in. We have church, a band banquet, and soccer practice. I also have things to get ready for school this week.

Rose~are we just posting our weight or do we need to PM you?

I hope everyone has a great weekend and an even greater weigh in :)

Jill

If you are 'weighing in today' and would like me to record your weight, you are welcome to post your current weight or pounds lost on the thread. Either one works. :) I think that's easier than dealing with pm's.

BTW--I bought 3 powerball tickets and did not match a single number. Is there a prize for that. ;)

My DH is getting home from Las Vegas this morning (conference) and we have a very crazy Monday and Tuesday, so I may be missing for a day or so. But I will be back. I am down 1.4 pounds, so feeling ok with that. :) Hoping for a maintain this week.

***If someone wants to post a question to think about for Monday and Tuesday, please do! :)

Good morning! I'm just checking in to "weigh in." This morning I weighed 169.2 :cool1:
I'll take it! Have a great day :thumbsup2

Jill

Well I won 42 cents at powerball last night...guess the students at our school are safe until Thursday morning in having a teacher LOL

I am not weighing in until the end of the month...love/hate relationship with the darn scale. It is killing me to stay away from it. In fact I had DH hide the silly thing. I have eaten 6 days pretty much right on target...my macros were a little off yesterday, but I allow one day off a week (as long as I dont binge with carbs and sugar) and it went really well. I also had an amazing week exercise wise...57 miles on Fitbit with 38 of those miles being INTENTIONAL workout miles (sadly still walking mostly).

But I will be back. I am down 1.4 pounds, so feeling ok with that. :) Hoping for a maintain this week.

:)

As long as the scale moves down you are doing great!

Jill

Glad you are taking it...I assume it is good for you without having to go back to the first page.

Good Morning!

Down 1.5lbs. I think I got a lot of walking in and salads in the past couple days.

I did buy a powerball and like most, won 0. But will be buying again as it is now expected to be 1.3 Billion! WOW!

Fun this weekend? I spent yesterday interviewing and hiring someone for our bus. So, my DH is happy as this was needed and we did get to go to lunch together-very rare. Today , I am still working on more Christmas decorations down and away. The outside was done last weekend, half the inside during the week, now working on the family room tree, garlands, kids rooms...We(or should I say I) do a lot of decorating for Christmas.

Crazy weekend hockey, hockey and more hockey. My sons blade got a big chip taken out of it in the second period of yesterdays game so was out for the rest of the game. Bummer. Was up until 2 am trying to book all of our cruise excursions and doing online check in. The website was not holding up with all the action. Spent the morning getting my sons skate repaired just in time to head over to the rink again. DS hockey team went to go see Starwars after practice today. I am so ready for bed :) Temperature prediction for tomorrow here minus 18. Yuck. Going to have to decide on another option to get my exercise in tomorrow.

I haven't weighed yet. I did well this past week and I guess I'm worried that weighing right now and not seeing much difference would frustrate me. So I'm waiting. Maybe next week sometime I will do it.

Hi Gang!

@Rose&Mike I normally weigh in on Tuesday but took a sneak peak and I was down 1.4 too! I'm happy with that. It's progress and the scale moved in the right direction:) We are on the right track:)

I will think up some QOTD if everyone is ok with that!

I didn't weigh in either. I will later but I prefer to keep to morning. I'm still a little bloated so I'm sure I'm retaining water. My calorie range was up and down. I hope it was decent though. I'm betting I barely maintain from start. This weekend has been hard and I've been way off plan and goals. :( Usually I have an easier time on weekend. But I splurged on some me time and enjoyed playing a game, a marathon hours long session.:o :rolleyes1 I'm weird with games and tv. Sometimes I'll go days, weeks of none and other times its long hours worth.

We will do dance game. We meant to last night but I was in my gaming session and the other two were playing Call of Duty on Playstation. It was late when we got done. We will do a marathon dance party with Just dance later.

I'll have to take some time to catch up reading. But also want to spend some time planning my weeks strength routine and what days I can fit in cardio and what time frames. I gotta bleach and fill up the old milk jug I saved to use as kettle type weights. I also do one certain move someone showed me elsewhere with a kettle bell but I use 45 lb 5 gallon water jugs. Lifting those things when I fill them is workout enough but I figure do intentional lifting and I'll build up strength.

Edited to add weigh in done. 315.9 up .6. Basically maintain because its later in evening and I'm sure because of TOM all week and being bloated. I'll take it even though its not a loss. After my struggle to keep every day in calorie range I'm sure its decent.

I did some gaming as I said in previous post. But tonight we did almost 2 hours of active Just Dance game. My shoulders are feeling it. ahh I better take something for it now. LOL

I did not buy a Powerball but thought my brother did. Maybe not. I'd surely have a house built with a home gym. HEHE And no winner still. 1.3 billion they say. I soooo could use that for me, and my family.

Weighed in yesterday at 156.4.

Have done ok counting points, except for Friday, but still didn't go crazy, I just don't like using my weeklies. I tend to eat when stressed, and my stupid ex husband left message on my office phone at work and the whole day just went to hell in a hand basket after that (we have no contact & my office phone is only # he has).

I have been brewing my own green tea during the day, and chamomile tea at night. Plus, I've been doing the oil pulling to get all the toxins out of my system....side note--coconut oil is a very good conditioning treatment for hair!

I've been trying to stay away from too much processed stuff. I did break down and have a couple of ginger snaps over the weekend, but that's it.

Still on fence about he fitbit, but if I do get one, I think I've made up my mind to get either the Flex or Charge.

EDIT--oh, and did get on that blasted devil's machine this weekend. Have plans on getting on there again today after work.

QOTD: What is your biggest temptation?

Biggest temptation is to sit on my butt and forget going to get exercise at this moment. Very cold and windy out. Food wise all depends on my mood but I don't dare go to "look" in a bakery. :) Packaged baked goods are not my thing but fresh baked OMG
