Why Is There No Tinker Bell?

I realize that Tinker Bell is a fairy and therefore very small. However, they have other characters that aren't true to size like the mice from Cinderella. I've seen Suzy and Perla with Cinderella, and they are just as big as her. My girls LOVE Tinker Bell, and I wish Disney would provide this character.

We saw Tinkerbell in the Pirate and Princess party parade this summer. There's been rumours that Disney are thinking up a way of making her an actual character you can meet, but "shrinking" you down to size before you meet her, which I think is a cute idea.
But I agree about the mice, and the chipmunks too.

I don't know for certain, but I think the biggest problem is that she is a face character, but in the films she cannot talk. Since it's a huge expectation for the face charaters to interact and chat with guests, it might be tough on Tink to have guests constantly try to make her speak when she is not able to. Once her new movie is released in which she will speak to other fairies or creatures her own size, I'm guessing that she might begin meet-and-greets in the parks in a special location where guests can be shunk to pixie-size.

You can always see her fly over the castle during Wishes @ Magic Kingdom.:wizard:

Yeah, I totally agree.

I do think it would make more sense to do a speaking meet & greet once the the movie comes out where she does speak. However, I don't really see it being much of an issue with kids if they were to have her out now before any speaking role comes out.

I realize that she's not supposed to talk. I realize that she is litte. I get all that. I know that we can see her every night flying from the castle. But, if they want to get technical, what in the world is Tinker Bell doing in Cinderella's Castle???

Everyone knows that Mickey Mouse can talk, and he doesn't when you see him. Everyone knows that Tinker Bell doesn't talk, so if we saw her and she didn't talk, we'd know why. I was just looking at pictures today and saw pictures of Marie. She's bigger then the humans, and she's on two feet. I just don't understand why they are willing to make exceptions for other characters, but not one that would be as popular as Tinker Bell.

I missed something. Tinkerbell is staring in her own movie? That's gonna be cool. I love reading about fairies, etc, so that's going to be really interesting to see. Does anyone have an idea on when it's going to be released?

Next August, I believe. It was originally supposed to be released last year, then it was pushed back to this past summer, but then it apparently did poorly with the intended test audience and they pushed it back to next summer. Brittany Murphy is doing the voice.

The problem is the pushy parents that could complain about a face character that "refused" to speak to their child even though they Tink is only trying to stay in character. People know that characters like Mickey will not talk and have that expectation. Face characters are a different story.

thats because technically it's not Cinderella's Castle, The castle is named Cinderella Castle. no possessive properties to it.

Thanks for that. I know it's Cinderella Castle. I think our many breakfasts have paid for half of the bricks on the castle. (I know, there aren't any). I referred to it in the possessive because Tinker Bell is in someone else's castle. :)

My guess is that it's because in the old Wonderful World of Color shows, Tink was usually seen with the castle while fireworks were going off. It kind of put the idea in the mind that castle & fireworks goes along with Tink flying around. Here's a link for an example:

Tink is one of my favorites too, but I'm not totally bummer that we don't see her around every corner. I think it's part of what makes her special as well... her elusiveness. She is a fairy with a mind of her own. Soaring above the castle like a free spirit or sitting on top of a treasure chest in the Pirate and Pricess Parade seems to suit her. I'm not sure that tink would be able to hold her character (free spiritied, sassy, moody) quite as well if she became more of an icon. It might take away some of the magic.

I agree too... Wish I could have gotten my younger daughter to meet Tink and take a picture with her. Still....one of the coolest things that we did this past trip was to peek in the keyhole in the dresser at Tinkerbell's treasures to see Tink inside the dresser. It is so simple, yet so cool especially for Tink lovers.

They also have to come up with a way to deal with the fact that Tink can fly...

I've seen Capt Hook chasing Peter Pan around the outside of Cinderella Castle, so why shouldn't Tinkerbell fly from atop it?

Well, her fairy magic made her grow ;)

She should not be a face character, have her be in a full little costume.

I have no problem with her flying from atop the castle. I love to see it. I love the little things with Tink, too. I love to see her in the store.

I know she's little, but there are little characters they've made big. I know she isn't supposed to talk, but they are making her talk in the upcoming movie. I know she flies, but so does Peter Pan. Most of the villains are mean enough that they wouldn't ever do anything as nice as sign an autograph, yet they do it. I love seeing Cruella. She is also so in character. Tink could be played very well also.

I know there are plenty of reasons that could be made for why she's not there, but it seems if Disney wants a character out, they find a way to do it. I don't understand with the popularity of Tinker Bell why they don't. I suppose we all keep going back no matter what, she'd just be a neat one to see.

I think you've just answered your own question. The reason Tink is not out as a character is because Disney hasn't decided to make her a character yet. The reasons stated here could be Disney's reasons or there could be other reasons. We simply will never know exactly why she isn't out and if she does become a character we won't know exactly why Disney decided to make her one.

Personally I like that Tink remains small in my mind. I don't like to see big Jiminy Cricket for the same reason. I think it would be very cool for Disney to "shrink" visitors prior to meeting a character Tink.
