Why do dogs feet smell like Fritos????

And speaking of smells...why do bellybuttons smell like blue cheese?
I'm not saying mine does. I just hear things.

I googled and didn't find anythng definitive, but there seem to be two theories:

1. yeast
2. corn based dog foods

it cant be the second therory because I do not feed my girls corn based dog food.

I love the way my dog's feet smell!! She's a Jack Russell too. I had a Shih Tzu who's feet never smelled that way, so maybe it does have something to do with certian breeds. My dog is very sensitve about her smells though and she gets so angry if I try to sniff her feet. I think she is afraid I'm trying to steal her smell

Well you learn something new every day. I called both dogs over and yes, their feet smell like fritos. How is it that someone from the internet that I've never met has made me feel the need to smell my dogs feet?!?!?!?!?!

Wow! My sitter started calling my lab/beagle mix "Frito" a couple of years ago! She said the dog smelled like Fritoes, and sure enough she did - but I thought it was only that dog (never noticed if it was eminating from the feet, though). My other dog, totally unidentifiable mixed breed, does NOT smell like Fritoes - he is just plain stinky. So it's not the food, because they eat exactly the same dog food. I had no idea other dogs smelled like Fritoes!

I'm a nurse and just need to put it out there that it is not just dogs feet that smell like fritos. I have not eaten fritos or doritos for a long time now.

Ok I have to admit I never smelt my dog's feet and she is no longer with us (she died a year ago) so I will have to live the rest of my life without sniffing dog feet!!

BUT.......

My cat Billy does smell like Fritos - mostly around his neck. don't know why???

Then again when I get done with a run sometimes I smell like frito's

So do my beagle's feet. I'm not sure this is a good thing because I REALLY like Doritos. My husband is going to come home one night and find me licking my dog's paws for a snack.
