Why do dogs feet smell like Fritos????

OK, I admit it......I just tried to smell my dogs feet. He growled at me!! It seems he doesn't like people smelling his feet. Soooooo, I'm going to wait until he falls asleep and sneak up on him and take a whiff. This is my mission for tonight. :sad2:

When our black lab was getting older, she smelled like corn chips. I have noticed that smell in other houses that have elderly dogs.

I think you're all whacked in the head:rotfl: For the love of God stop sniffing your dog's feet:sad2: :rotfl:

This is almost as nuts as "Pooh Watch 2007" - but I couldn't stop reading that one, either! :rotfl: :happytv:

my baby has frito-feet too. or as my nephew and i call it "fri-toes".

I googled and didn't find anythng definitive, but there seem to be two theories:

2. corn based dog foods

not for my zara. she has no corn whatsoever in her diet. she must be yeasty. :rotfl:

We've had two boston terriers and both their feet smell like corn chips when they are sleeping. I worry about this because our current dog is a male and much like every other male his aim is not the best so what are we smelling in bed.:rotfl2:

The first dog that I had as an adult smelled like saltine crackers. My cat (before he got older and less able to lick himself clean) always smelled like baby powder.

My other dogs have just smelled like dogs.

I remember when my GS had puppy breath-yuck! But I think I will pass on sniffing her and my other dog's feet. My other dog I did notice tonight as we were watching the Dog show on t.v. needs a bath. So tomorrow, he gets the shower treatment, he is 75lbs, I am not lifting him in the tub plus he tries to get of the tub. He is not crazy about the shower, but he knows he gets the hair dryer treatment, he is a freaky dog.

Hehe, this is so funny. I've always noticed that my CAT has a distinct foot smell, but never really placed it until now. It's definitely Fritos, or some kind of corn chip variation.

Yes, I've smelled my cat's feet but it's not really an odd thing considering his paws are always in my face. Usually when he's sleeping next to me, he'll stretch his legs and push his front feet right against my nose. :scared:

I smell my dog's feet all the time ~ he likes to sleep face to face so his feet always end up on my pillow. There is a definite Frito-like smell to them. ;)
Now as far as what the rest of him smells like, LOL, that's another story.

Oh, and puppy breath :lovestruc ~ sometimes I go to the pet store in town just to hold the puppies and smell them. :lovestruc

OMG:lmao:
My friends used to tell me MY feet smelled like fritos:headache: :rotfl2:
Kerri

So do my beagle's feet. I'm not sure this is a good thing because I REALLY like Doritos. My husband is going to come home one night and find me licking my dog's paws for a snack.

There's a diet plan- all of the satisfaction, none of the guilt. (Where's the pukeface smilie? )

I have a 2 year old bichon frise....her paws smell like doritos! I always tell her "You have Dorito Paws" lol

Oh yes... "Fritoes" and "Popcorn Paws" are well known in veterinary practice!

The odour is caused by malassezia spp., a yeast that lives normally on the skin of dogs.
