Why book a package???

Hi,
I will be doing the 7 day cruise and then 3 nights at WDW after the cruise.

I priced out tickets and room from Disney and then got a price from Dreams.

The prices were the same! Well I should say they were the same once I asked Disney for the AAA rate on the room.

If I book the room by itself from Disney and just get my tickets at the resort when I get there I have 7 days to cancel.

But if I book the tickets and room as a package from Disney or Dreams, I have to cancel 45 days out.

It seems to me that I should just book things separate and get my tickets when I arrive, just in case we would have to cancel. This way I also wouldn't have to add this part on to my travel insurance.

As far as I can tell, the package is good because you get some extras if you book thru AAA (luggage tags, diamond card, parking pass, vouchers...) BUT especially if you want the dining...you can only get the dining by booking a package, and can only get the AAA discount on your room (with package) by booking directly thru AAA.

If you don't want dining & don't need the extras, then room only is perfect.

Yes. If you want dining AND a AAA discount on your room, then you have to book thru AAA. If you just want a package without AAA discount, you can book directly thru Disney.

Dining is only availabe thru a package (Room, tickets, DP).

You can book AAA room only with Disney or DU or any other TA, and still purchase the tickets separately, and have a 5 day cancellation window.

Don't wait to purchase your park tickets at the front desk, you will pay more; Disney offers advance purchase discounts on tickets of 4 days or more with park hopping. Its only a few dollars, but it is a savings.

Also, when booking with Disney or a TA who books thru Disney, you can only purchase Disney's travel insurance on a package; insurance is not available on room-only. If you are purchasing your insurance thru another provider, it doesn't matter.
