Who's Gonna Have More Fun? Two PTR's for the Price of One!

Sheila--- I will be openly vocal about my distaste for nastiness in the CL lounge if I see it. I ain't skeered.:lmao: Something along the lines of "Oh bless your heart honey, didn't you know that money can't buy class? Do run along now and put on some proper attire dear, your chest hairs are falling into the canapes."

As far as the monorail breaking down---- yep--- it had trouble last May when I was there. Lots of breaking down. :headache:

Golden Corral anyone???? OMG------ I so forgot to tell you this..........
remember when Mark went to CHS for his Sis' graduation? His mom and dad made him go to Golden Corral for supper one night! :faint: The only thing he ate was steak from where the cook was grilling it. :lmao: One man brought in his own bottle of hot sauce and salad dressing. Mark said it was truly awful. This trip we passed by it (it's near the outlets :rolleyes1) and my SIL said "hey Jo you wanna go?" I almost passed out. Drew yells "I am NOT going in there, we'll catch something!!":rotfl2:

Sorry about your migraine, Jo. Oops, hope I'm not squeezing you too hard! ;) No Mountain Dew? Or is that just Shelly?

I can't believe you don't like Golden Corral! We love it! It's our absolute favorite place to go for special occasions. And we always run into so many people we know, so it's like a big reunion every time we go. It has the best food and ambience....I know you aren't a fan of buffets, but GC is not your average buffet!

Did I have you going there?

I couldn't help myself. :guilty:

I've never set foot in Golden Corral. We have one here, but I'm sure it's like Ryan's, and one trip there was all it took.

Good Morning -

I am here but I did sleep in. We ate at Rainforest our first visit to AK but I think that was back in 1997 when they first opened maybe? We have done counter serves there too but I have no clue what or where and during our last trip we once again ate at Rainforest just as the park was closing. I do not recall what the other had but I ordered some type of pasta dish that had sausage in it , I think I found a whole two pieces of sausage, not impressed with my meal at all.

We either go early morning or late afternoon for a couple of hours.

I did change our schedule and put AK back on our plans for the October trip as of now , its taxi to AKL for breakfast at Boma's the either spend time at AKL to show DH around, since he has never been there, I have stayed there on my trip in 2006 with my friend. Then hit AK for a bit and have lunch at Yak & Yeti. If we do not end of going to AK we will probally head to DTD for a while instead.

Good morning Sheila! :)

Yeah, we weren't impressed with RC at all. :confused3 I was a bit worried when we tried T-Rex in November since it is owned by the same co as RC, but it was much better! :goodvibes

You guys will have fun checking out AKL. I hope you enjoy Boma's!

If I were you I might be tempted to go to DTD instead of AK after breakfast!!
Hey Shelly! I agree that AK doesn't seem to have any knockout meals (that we have tried anyway). In '08 we ate at RC, which was a really cool place but the food was just ok. In '09 we left the park and went to Boma, which was good, but you would probably think it was really odd. Not much American food there. For CS, we have eaten at Yak and Yeti and Flame Tree, neither of which we were in love with.

We might be doing Tusker House for breakfast this year. I hope it is good. I just think the characters in their safari outfits are so cute!

I'm not sure if you guys would like this or not, but I read about a snack in AK somewhere here on the DIS and wrote it in my notes. It's a jalapeno cheese stuffed pretzel. I know you guys don't like "funky" stuff so this might too out there for you, but I just kept hearing people rave about it so I jotted it down. I went back to look it up to see where you can buy them and there are actually several whole threads on them, so they must be good. Anyway, they can only be found in AK and they are in several places including right outside the safari. I think we will try one just to see what the hoopla is about!

I've definitely not found anything spectacular as far as food goes at AK. I thought about trying Yak & Yeti but it just looks a little funky for me! :rotfl:

Tusker House is a lot of fun. The characters are great and the food is decent.

Hmm...that does sound interesting. I just may have to try one of those pretzels!

Shelly--- great AK dining post! You have been to a lot more places than me there.
When you said the eggs were wet at Tusker House, yeah, I gagged.:sick::sick: That is such a neat atmosphere in there though. I wish it wasn't buffet b/c I might try it.

Pizzafari is on the list for us this trip, we've never been before. Belle is going to turn into a big pizza by the end of the trip.:lmao:

I'll post my AK dining soon.............

Hey---- How's the little stinker??????:lovestruc

Yeah those eggs were nasty. Good thing they had lots of other stuff to eat!

Pizzafari is pretty much the same food as Pizza Planet. So don't get too excited. :rotfl:

Little Jack-Jack is being pretty good today. He's trying to make up for peeing on DS's sleeping bag last night. :headache::scared1:

Good Morning!
I woke this morning with a migraine so I've been sort of lying in bed, eating bagels (warm, with pnut butter of course;) um, not "diet" food exactly.....:lmao:) and taking Excedrin for the past two hours. Blech. I think the fogginess in my head is finally lifting.

I feel like I have so much planning left to do for the trip! It's awful. I still have scraps of paper all around, falling out of my binder. I need to pay the dang trip off and I keep putting it off. It's a room only so I can do it any time. ugh.

I feel so lazy. I can't seem to get my head wrapped around this trip. *sigh* Procrastinating at it's best, right here.

Could I have the Disney blues before I even leave??????

I hope your migraine is on it's way out by now. :wizard: And you better snap out of this funk -- we have trips to plan!!! :cool1:

::yes::
Mark went to GC?:lmao: That is too funny. The last time we went there (last November) I was so grossed out by the time we left I vowed to never go back. But DH & the kids keep asking to go. :scared1::sick:

Okay I did read where you posted this and then forgot about it---- but I wanted to talk about it.

I have to say I just don't really understand why they wouldn't keep the resort monorails running-- we are paying a premium for that service after all. What concerns me most isn't necessarily the EMH nights--- it's the park closing and it only running for an hour afterwards that has me worried. Because it really does take F-O-R-E-V-E-R for everyone to get loaded onto the monorail after the park is closed. An hour + at least. So what are they going to do with all of those people in line after the one hour mark? Make them go get into another line for the busses??
I think it's just another way that WDW is making cutbacks and I don't like it.

That said-----
we only took the monorail back to the Poly once last May at night from the MK. And it was right as Wishes was starting. The monorail driver went super slow and then actually stopped at one point and we were able to see the ending of it. It was really cool-- I know there had to have been a reason for him to do it , I mean , it's not like he cared if we all saw the fireworks----:rotfl:--- but it was a neat thing that happened and we felt special since as soon as it was over, he took off again.

We found that taking the boats to the MK and back was just as good as the monorail.

I guess I'm just saying that I'm not too too worried, but we will be driving our car to Epcot at night when we go. And we only have one EMH at the MK scheduled. And it is staying open until 1 am-- so I guess we'll take the boat back.

What about you guys?????

Well seeing as how we aren't planning to do any PM EMH it really doesn't make a difference to me I guess. :rotfl:

But yes, I do see what you are saying about the 1 hour after park closing thing. We always run right out to the bus stop after closing so we've never lingered long enough to see long lines afterwards.

I know the monorail seems to break down on us a lot whenever we ride it. I have heard that this cutback is only temporary and it's because they need to work on it at night. Hopefully that is true and things will get back to normal someday and it will quit breaking down so much!

Details- Schmetails.:lmao: We will be texting fools---- "Where R U?" and "On the way 2 C U." :lmao: You all know I'm a procrastinator who can't plan a dang thing to save my life!!!!!!!!!!!! Poor Shelly........ :rotfl2:
The only thing I DO know is that the meet ups are going to include dole whips................:3dglasses and maybe some food from "some"where................

:faint:

You're killing me here!! :upsidedow You know I like to plan every little detail far far in advance!!

Dole Whips. ::yes:: :cloud9:

Teri you are hysterical. And I'm thinking as I was reading that... wait-- are you from my hometown in SC???? Reunions?????? :lmao:
Golden Corral--- I think it's about like Ryans. Which is so not on my go to list. :snooty:

I have to tell you guys this story-- it's long so here it goes.
Get a snack-- it's worth it.popcorn::popcorn::

When I went home this trip, I stayed with my mom one night in my little ole hometown where the railroad track runs right thru the middle of town. It's a tiny little sountern town, complete with 4th of July pageant queens and cheerleader types that are in the parade the morning of the street dance down Main Street.

you get the idea.

Everyone knows everyone.

When I come to town, it's like a reunion. I run into every Betsy Sue and Joe Jr that I knew from childhood. Mostly I try to duck in and out without being noticed. It's like a time warp-- people there are stuck in the 80's and never left with their big hair and blue eyeshadow. And yes, I stick out like a sore thumb.

That said--- Mom says on Saturday night--- "hey, lets go to supper at the _____________ (local bbq joint). We'll meet your Aunt (her twin) there." Now I am cringing. Seriously cringing. Food is okay. Atmosphere not so much and patrons even worse. And I just know that I am going to have something weird happen there. it happens everytime I go.

So off we go- down Main St. I'm driving my car b/c I refuse to ride with my mom--- what should be a 5 minute ride would have equalled a 15 minute putt putt down Main st if she were behind the wheel.

Park the car right out front, Auntie and Uncle show and we all hug and proceed inside. The restaurant of course stops, everyone turns to look at the outsider (me) like the prodigal daughter returning home.

Get seated, get our drinks, the food right away. Before anyone can say amen from the prayer, I said 'oh, I didn't get any BBq sauce". mom says 'Ill get it'. And as she is getting up, knocks her entire glass of sweet tea into my Aunt's lap.

Now for anyone who can move quckly, it's not a big deal. But for Auntie, she broke her hip a long time ago and has been on a cane ever since. She can't move too fast. And so there she sits, trying to move out of the way of the cold sticky sweetness and she ain't goin' so fast. Soaking wet. All the help from the kitchen comes streaming out yellin 'oh bless your heart honey' and 'my goodness honey, lets clean you up' as they proceed to wipe her skirt and table.

So there we sit.

Auntie with a wet lap. Me trying to not be recognized. I look up and there's this man staring at me. I mean, STARING. Like uncomfortable staring. Creepy even. I do not know him. He continues to stare. 5 minutes goes by-- he's staring. Not eating, just staring. Finally I'd had enough and yell out 'WHY IS HE STARING AT ME????' to which the whole restaurant comes to a screeching halt and everyone looks at me and this creepy guy. The two blue haireds with me whisper 'don't look, oh dear lord, what is his problem? I do believe he is a bubble off plumb sugar, maybe he will go away soon, just be quiet and don't look at him, here, change places with me'.:scared1: Mom says all quiet like-- 'why didn't you just sit facing the wall like you always do, now he is going to follow us home!' :faint:

We all proceed to pick up our plates and move around the table like we were
playing musical chairs.

FINALLY we are finished, I look to see creepy guy nowhere to be seen.

Whew.

Get up to go pay. Thinking this has got to win an award for the strangest meal I've ever had in this town, but wait. There's more.

:wizard:

We go to pay the cashier--- and as we are standing in line, this man who looks like a Hell's Angel complete with pony tail and goatee and tatoos walks in and loudly announces --"Who here is from ___________" (The state I currently reside). I'm looking around thinking wow--- wonder what he's talking about? Isn't that weird-- someone is from there and I'm living there. It didn't dawn on me that he was looking for ME......

My mom yells out--- everyone is staring---- "OOoh, here!!! (Like we'd just own Bingo or something-- who knew she'd be so eager to hand me over to another scary man...) "Here!" She yells, grabbing my arm and shoving me into his face. He looks me up and down -- and says-- You're from _______? And I am wondering what the heck he wants to know that for and just how he knew it in the first place.
I just look at him.

He says--- "Do you drive that SUV?" And points to my car. Ahhhhh, now I understand. Someone has hit my car. I'm expecting the worst--- dented in fender, door, scratches, how the heck and I'm gonna explain this to Mark...

"yes" I say.

He says "Well darlin you just might need THIS" and shoves a piece of paper in my face all folded up. I am scared to open it. I start to unfold it and see that it's a permit. I'm thinking, now how did MC lose her Drivers permit out the car it's in her purse...

and as my eyes scan a little lower I see that it is indeed a permit.

TO TRANSPORT A DEAD BODY ACROSS STATE LINES.

:scared1:

Homeslice thought I had a rigor mortis body in the back of my SUV and I just casually pulled up to get some BBQ on the way back home.

:faint:

I win for most ridiculous restaurant story. Hands down. I win.

After that experience, maybe a buffet at WDW wouldn't be so bad after all.:lmao:

You should do a "Disney hairstyles through the years" album for your DS12! He's had everything from the crew cut to the Leif Garret cut! ;) Too cute!

Those pastries look yummy! My curiosity is getting me, though. What is that thing that looks kind of like an egg roll?

My DH has a thing about runny eggs. (not that I like mine runny) He likes his done until they bounce off the wall.

Glad to hear that Jack is doing a little bit better with the peeing. (emphasis on "little" ;)) At least he isn't regressing!

Make sure you take the boat at night-- even if it's just something to do. If you can time it to load just as Wishes is starting---- you get a really pretty show! ::yes::

I always like to stay around in the parks after closing to let the crowds die down. I hope it isn't a permanent thing.

:faint:

You're killing me here!! :upsidedow You know I like to plan every little detail far far in advance!!

That is HANDS DOWN the weirdest restaurant story EVER!! Maybe you could PM me the name of that town so I know NEVER EVER TO GO THERE!!!! :scared1:

Shelly - WOO HOO for 6 weeks!!!:banana::banana::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Tusker House was good - one of the buffets with the bigger varieties of food choices. My whole family was happy! They had yummy pastries, carving station, some "african" type foods, and the traditional Disney breakfast stuff. And I agree, the safari outfits are cute.
And I agree again, it seemed we were ready to leave and had to wait to get our bill settled while I was itching to get out there and get in line for safari!

I win for most ridiculous restaurant story. Hands down. I win.

I believe you are right. That has got to be the most ridiculous restaurant story I have ever heard. :faint: :lmao:

Yes, I think we're making progress with Jack. Very little progress, but at least some. :wizard:

Yay for 6 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks!! :cool1:

What does that make you -- 6 weeks, 6 days?!!!!

:dance3:

And OMG you always come back from SC with the craziest stories. :scared1: :rotfl2:

Shelly--- I always come back from EVERYwhere with the craziest stories.....:rotfl2: I lead a very colorful life......:lmao:

And um, not sure of how many weeks/days I have???? I think it's 49 days or maybe 48? Something like that.

:faint:

I cannot keep up to save my life.

Just be happy neither of you have to claim living there at one point.:rotfl2:

At least it isn't as bad as a town near there called Hell Hole. To which they have a pageant every year and the winner gets crowned as Miss Hell Hole. And yes my old BFF was indeed Miss Hell Hole. She had the sash and crown and scepter and rode in the parade and everything.

I am SO not making any of this up.

We were pretty happy with our Tusker House experience too. But yeah, what the heck takes so long to settle a bill, especially when it's buffet prices??? :faint:

That's true. You can come back from a public restroom with a story. :rotfl:

Well I just figured that you must have been at 7 weeks yesterday, so that makes it 6 weeks, 6 days today!! You are arriving on a Thursday, right? :upsidedow Now I'm confused!!

Why don't you order yourself a Frogg Togg and let me know how it works!! :thumbsup2:rotfl:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
OMG Jo!! Are you my long lost twin!!?? I too woke up with a whopper of a headache and was actually popping EXCEDRINE as I was reading that you too were on them!! LOL...Same story of the childhood town also,...in fact, it's not far from here and I never go back.NEVER. It's unreal...when I read the part about the sweet tea spilling I actually burst out into a horribly loud laugh..my kids all jumped and said "WHAT!?!"....,...but alas...my head is still throbbing...shouldn't have laughed like that...
We too have Golden Corrals in TX and Ryans...would NEVER eat here...we ate there as kids and it grosses me out now..of course, the Disney buffets are not neaaaaaarly as trashy,...I mean heck, you ARE at Disney.. And somehow I missed the thing about Shellys eggs being wet..thanks A LOT for reposting that...I thought I would puke!! You are a riot!:rotfl: But girl, seriously,...go pay for your trip!! you are making me anxious!!

Could I have the Disney blues before I even leave??????

Hmmm, I've never hear of that before. Maybe you have what I have.... summer blues! I know people say they get the winter blues, but I get the summer blues. Maybe that's a Southern thing since we don't have really cold winters. I am just so tired of this stifling, miserable, humidity and heat! By this time every year, I have some serious cabin fever because we just cannot get outside at all. It's even already suffocating first thing in the morning! :headache:
