Ok, I requested a Points Activity Statement and I received it a few weeks ago. Every now and then I will pick it up and try to decifer it. But it makes me more confused! I guess I will need to sit down and dissect it in order to really see what they did.

Some points say chg (charge?) while others say arrive. Any advice on how to understand this better? I didn't think I was going to have to put my brain to work, I thought it would be a simple black and white statement..LOL::MinnieMo

They are very confusing

.........and not worth the trouble to try to figure out. We requested one about 4 years ago.....never again.

They are pretty criptic.

It is broken out into use years and the confusing part may be that a borrowing/banking transaction will occur in BOTH use year sections. The year the points came from and the year they went to.

My use year is August. On 2-27-2001, I borrowed 20 points from my 2002/2003 use year to make a reservation for a stay in 2001.
This transaction shows as 2 seperate entries in the Activity Statement.

Use Year_________Date_______Qty__Description

8/2001-7/2002____2/27/2001___20__ Borrow from next use year

8/2002-7/2003____2/27/2001___20___Borrow to previous use year

Banking transaction will look the same.

The "Chg" documents the day you made the reservation.
The "arrive" is the actual date of your stay.
Sometimes the "Chg" transactions are linked to "arrive" transactions by the "res #" but these don't always match?

Hope this helps.:headache:

I have related this several times, it was a while back.

I had a two week GV stay, canceled it, rebooked it, canceled it again and was rebooking it when they told me I didn't have enough points.

It was actually less points than the first ressie, the same as the second.

Of course, I objected. They maintained that I was given too many points accidently and we were correct with the shorter vacation.

They sent me one of those dopey sheets. We marked it up and faxed it back and fourth six or eight times, we spent hours on the phone. At NO TIME did I relent, I knew they were wrong, wrong by 200 or so points. Went to the supervisor, the team leader, etc, etc, the final outcome was that my vacation was shortened and I was wrong and they were right.

The next year I was making a reservation, asked about my point level, having completely forgot about the fiasco the year before. They told me I had 235???? points that needed to be banked or used right away. As far as I knew, I had ZERO current points and a new allotment coming in September.

235???...I don't remember the exact number now, but when MS said the number, it all came rushing back. I was right and their computer caught it up. Luckily I was within banking when I found out.

They don't even know how to read those stupid statements.

It was nice haveing so many 'free' points, we booked our first AKL concierge stay with them.

When I first bought our 3 resale contracts, I asked to be sent a points statement. Just to be sure we had the points I thought we had. I still haven't figured it out and I think Richyams is right ,they can't even read them, I asked a CM in MS what one thing meant and she didn't know, put she said she would find out if I wanted, I told her not to bother. I would seem to be an easy thing to do on a spread sheet, but I think they want to keep us in the dark.

Every time I call MS I ask for a update on my points to see if we have the same numbers.

It's been good so far.

I'll offer a dissenting view here and suggest that the accounting is useful.
Is it easy to read... not at all...but it does provide an extremely detailed account of every transaction for the account. It could certainly be presented in a more readable form, but - if you have the patience- everything is there.

I get one each year - just to have a record of my account activity. It shows each reservation and subsequent change, if any, by date. If you have add-ons or additional contracts, each one is listed separately.

While it is not a simple document to read, it does provide a complete listing of everything done in your account. A useful, even if not perfect, document.

Enjoy!

I think you should get a job at MS. Aren't you getting tired of all those teeth and all that saliva?

The three people I spoke to at MS were unable to read it. We faxed it marked up back an fourth all day long. I showed them how my points added up since '92 to exactly the number of points I claimed I had. They just bullheadidly claimed 'no, you are wrong: again and again and again. I only gave up when it was obviously futile and I realized I was dealing with people who had no idea waht they were looking at and when I got as high as I could go, I was still dealing with someone who had no clue at all as to how to read that thing.

Thanks for the clarification, I'm a dental hygienist and was lost for a minute!

i actually think the Points Activity Statement is not too bad once you figure out the language.

although from reading Rich's story about how sometimes MS can't even decipher the statements, i live in fear that MS will some day lose some of my points. that's partly why i thought i'd stay on top of the points accounting right from the beginning.

here's some pointers:

the Quantity column shows either a positive (credit to your account) or a negative (debit to your account) amount.

Arrive = the transaction that happens the first time you call in and make a brand new reservation.

Cnl = the transaction that happens when you cancel or modify a reservation.
if you are just modifying a reservation (see below), the Cnl line will just have the original reservation#.
if you are actually cancelling a reservation, the Cnl line will be followed by a cancellation confirmation# that usually starts with the letters CN.

Chg = a reservation modification. this transaction usually occurs as a pair with a "Cnl" transaction (see above). when MS makes a modification (add some nights, change the arrival date, reallocate ressie to use banked points, etc.) what happens in the computer is they "cancel" the reservation, and then they "change" the reservation.

sometimes one single modification will show up as multiple lines of "Cnl" and "Chg" transactions.
this seems to happen when you are using a combination of Regular points and Banked points.

other transaction types are:

* Manual points adjustments (these are harder to figure out)
* Borrowing transactions
* Banking transactions (sometimes these include a Banking confirmation# starting with the letters BK. but many banking transactions are done manually, so don't have a confirmation#)
* Transfer transactions

so far i haven't encountered any other transaction types.

i'd suggest using a program like Quicken or MS Money to track each of your DVC contracts.

hope this helps! let me know if you have any other questions.

That's what I did. Set up a "checking" account for each contract (VWL & OKW). Then I make a deposit on the use year, and withdrawal when I make a reservation.::MickeyMo
