I was at one of the large department stores the other day and they already had Halloween stuff out!! And school supplies were out after July 4th.

I haven't even been on my summer vacation yet! (We leave in about a week.) I really hate it when the stores start with Fall/school stuff so early (kids go back to school here the end of August). I guess they have to have things for those who want to get a head start on shopping, but it really bothers me.... I want the Summer to be Summer.

Does anyone else feel like this?

I hate it. It seems like every year it get's earlier and earlier. I can't stand it.

Would you believe some even have Christmas stuff out already. I hate the way they rush everything. Ever try to buy a swimsuit in the summer? Or a winter coat in the winter. Impossible!!!

I was in kohls a few weeks ago looking for a sarong for my bathing suit, figuring that they would be either majorly on sale or on clearance already. they were on sale, but imagine my surprise when right next to the bathing suits was the beginning of the winter jacket display!! it isn't even august yet, for crying out loud

I know it does drive people crazy. I dont mind because I am shopping for Christmas presents now. I have the Halloween Costumes and to be honest..I think it helps me focus on getting my shopping done.

Again, I do know people who get really annoyed by this.

You are so right. I have been working mall retail for the past 8 years til recently and are so right. Its crazy every year earlier and earlier. The last couple of years xmas was out before HALLOWEEN. Last year was my last year at tne amll thankgod but it was always interesting. I was trying to find my son a pair of water shoes and stores are like oh there all gone cuz we are in back to school now.

WHATEVER

I'm with you Mercy!

We were just at the mall. It's 107 outside today... but good luck finding a pair of shorts - of course there are plenty of long pants, sweatshirts, and winter jackets.

Oh well, fine by me - love shopping the clearance racks for back to school clothes. DS often makes it to Christmas vacation before he breaks out the long pants. The child lives in shorts and tee-shirts.

Last May I went looking for sandals. The saleswoman looked at me like I was nuts. They were sold out, and would not be getting any new ones in.

I'm another one who has seen Christmas decorations for sale in the last week. It was at Big Lots-that store is kinda crazy  anyway.

We always joke that over DHs birthday which is end of August we see the Christmas decorations out..A lady in Walmart once was putting out big plastic Santas on his birthday and he asked the sales clerk when they would decorate the store for Christmas and she said, in a week or so....That is too early!!

This bugs me too! Xmas decorations the day after Halloween! They just totally skip Thanksgiving! (not that there are that many decorations but the store windows could be decorated for thanksgiving)

We were in kmart 2or 3 weeks ago looking for an umbrella for a picnic table and all the outdoor stuff was being shoved aside and they were putting out the school supplies! ugh!

We hate going to the mall before Thanksginving because its already decorated with the xmas trees etc. Then the kids are asking "is it christmas time yet?" for 2 months.

although I hate the concept, I can't complain too much because I love the early clearance sales. Today for example I stopped into a store and found all outdoor lighting was 70% off. I bought 3 solar lanterns, a stained glass candle latern, and an outdoor oil lantern all for what I should have paid for one of them. I can't wait to set them all up tomorrow by the pool. :sunny:

I don't like seeing stuff out so early (like those winter jackets next to the 80% off swim suits) but at least here, some of the stuff needs to be. I'm shopping for sweat shirts and stuff now, because within a month or month and a half I'll be wearing them again. I'm in long sleeves today, for the second time this summer. So while I'd rather see warm weather clothes in hot weather, here, it's needed. I really hate the Christmas decorations and stuff though. That's just wicked out of control. I usually start with the Christmas shopping and stuff, oh about 2 days before Christmas:rolleyes1. We were at the mall tonight and saw the big racks of Christmas everything being rolled out into the store. Crazy.

Those winter coats are last years yet. You should see the store rooms at Kohls. They are packed from ceiling to floor with merchandise, if you can't find something at kohls in your size or color, ask and I can almost guarantee it will be back in the store room.

Hobby Lobby had their Christmas stuff out, partially, when I was there 2 weeks ago. Their garden/patio stuff was on clearance, and ornaments were being hung in those aisles...

Yes, I think they rush it like crazy.

Retail stores must deal not only with the shopping sensibilities of the customers, but also with the fiscal reality that seasonal shopping (especially Christmas) drives most of their annual revenue. I'm not an expert (never even worked retail) but my sense is that any opportunity to start Christmas shopping early, and make it last longer, the more likely they are to make their goals. As for Hobby Lobby, don't they specialize in crafts? My guess is that if shoppers see the Christmas stuff in July and it makes them think --"OMG I have to make 15 wreaths with angels and Santas on them" that the shopper still has time to buy the supplies and spend some time working on them. :D

Well its still back to school here-

Toys resets for the christmas season (aka we will start to carry everything we'll carry for christmas) end of august- Halloween sets here mid sept and and christmas will start in the garden center about the same time (as garden season is pretty muchover in utah by then :)
