Who Are You Ruining It For?

I had to take my kids through the Haunted Mansion twice just to hear the introduction to have the ride make some sense. We had a family of 5 (2 adults and 3 teens), who very loudly recited the ride's introduction as it went along. My daughter kept asking what the man was saying, and, of course, I didn't know because I couldn't hear either.

Don't know if this applies to any readers of this board but . . .

While I am sure you are impressed with your ability to recite a pre-recorded introduction: just because you CAN does not mean you SHOULD. You're great; very impressive - now please be quiet so we can ALL enjoy the ride!

Cheers!

my pet peeve is on the Jungle Cruise, when some bored bozo rolls his eyes at every joke the captain makes and answers the riddle/joke/question in a very bored, cocky, monotone voice...IMHO, they are some of the best, most fun CM's in the park and I think they really enjoy doing what they do. Any CM deserves respect and they don't get too much of it.

Our guide had everyone rolling in the boat during the Jungle Cruise. It was bad enough in the Haunted Mansion, sorry it happened to you elsewhere.

Agree with you both. If people are so bored with WDW maybe they should go elsewhere!

I must have found the only bored Jungle Cruise captain!!! She was awful. Very lacklustre and matter of fact. Everything was said in a complete monotone. Sorry you had such a bad experience on HM though. THat's one of our favorites. Yes, we do tend to speak along with it...but very quietly.

And what's up with all the people who take flash photos during Star Tours? That used to be one of my favorite rides, but all the flashing sure ruins the experience. It's not like they don't announce "no flash photography please"....and it's always several idiots (not just one) with their cameras going off.

I'm with you on this...

The worst example I've experienced like this is on Star Tours. My DD5 used to love the ride, throwing up her hands and screaming as if she was on a coaster, whenever the stupid thing went to "light speed". It was adorable to watch.
One time we rode it, there were 5 or 6 teens sitting behind us reciting the whole ride dialogue sarcastically. Then during the "exciting" parts they kept saying stuff like, "This ride is so lame!" or "ooh this is so scary...woop-de doo" in deadpan voices. Sure, the ride is pretty tame (and maybe boring) for anyone over 10. But, I agree, if you're THIS bored, why waste your time riding? After seeing "the big kids" ragging on the ride, she never did that hands-up/scream thing again.

I've experienced this on the hydrolators at Living Seas - teenagers exclaiming to each other how it's all fake, etc. - right in front of some younger children whose parents were none too pleased.

Okay, that is so sad it actually makes me want to cry. If those idiots behind you are too cool for WDW then why the heck don't they go somewhere else? It would be a better place without them.

How about when you take newbies, and you want everything to be new and surprising for them. So before the Indiana Jones show these people in back of us are pointing out the "ringer" audience member when he is selected to be an extra and talking about how he is the stunt guy.
Come on, everyone hasn't seen the show, let them be surprised the way you were the first time.

I had the pleasure of listening to a grandfather that should have known better turn the experience into a science lecture on how easy it is to fool people. The 6-year-old looked bored to tears. I was glad that my DS appeared to not be listening. That's part of the MAGIC!

I agree - I really don't appreciate hearing people "repeat" the lines of the show - it ruins the experience for newbies and people who have visited often. I want to soak in the "Magic" and find it difficult to do if someone is repeating the lines loud enough for me to hear. The only exception I would make for this is on the monorail - I frequently hear someone repeating the exiting lines!

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

I once had this girl SHOUT the whole HM ride right next to me and SCREAM in my ear when the lights go off. She was alone and acting very odd.

I thought they are supposed to sound like that?

I'm guilty of doing this during the Illuminations intro ("Good evening and welcome, we've gathered ....") but I usually only say it loud enough for the friend I'm with to hear it, except for the "blow out the candle"

When we were at MK a little over a week ago, we went for our second ride on POC. This was my BF's first ever trip and our first ride on Pirates was wonderful::yes:: . This second time though, we got the back row. Then this one idiot began taking photo's, pissing me off something major. Well, I said something about it and she surely could here me but didn't stop. I guess the whole damn boat thought what the hell because before you know it at least 6 people had cameras up shooting away. I could not even believe my eyes, people never behaved like that before! I was wishing for a CM to come out from behind some pirate to say something but they never did. If it was my bf's first ride I swear I would have screamed at the lot of them, we had been dreaming of riding it for ages and people should take that into consideration!

Could be. But I've had some Captains that are hysterical. Very into it. If the monotone is the way it's supposed to be, then give me the ones that are wrong.

As far as spoiling it for others.....when we were there for our first WDW we went to FOTLK. My dd was just 6. We were waiting for the show to start and these older ladies in back of us were discussing the Tough to be a Bug show. Well. One of them was saying how your 'behind' gets stung by a bee and bugs crawl all over you. My poor dd!!! She heard this and it took 3 more trips to WDW before she got up the nerve to do that attraction!!!

About the jaded teenagers - one thing - that's a shame that that happened but I've got to say that one thing I love about WDW is how teenagers I see usually feel free to be "uncool" and revert a little back to childhood. I think it's so wonderful to see them wearing silly hats and skipping around. It must be a little liberating to not have to worry about their image for a few days!:D

Even though I've never repeated the words in the HM, I thought this was something that was done by the "regulars" at DL. Kinda like a Rocky Horror Picture Show type thing. You know, where everyone repeats the lines? I just assumed it was a DL thing, and not a WDW thing.
