Who Are You Ruining It For?

I'm afraid my DD unintentionally spoiled Body Wars for one little girl and her dad. We were in line and I was telling DD about how they shrink you until you are very tiny and send you into someone's body, pretending all the while that you really do get shrunk. She was loving it and asked me what happened when the ride was over and I explained that they then un-shrink you, a process that works just fine most of the time. ;) We were having fun with it :D

Meanwhile, the little girl behind us was obviously unsure about the ride (though I don't think she overheard us). Her dad was trying to encourage her telling her there is nothing to it, she will love it, but you could tell she was very nervous. I tried to reassure her and told her that it was a lot of fun and not really scary. Well, my DD had to put her 2 cents in and piped up 'yeah, they shrink you down and put you into someone's body. But don't worry, at the end they un-shrink you and it works most of the time!'. That did it...out of the line they went! I felt really bad, but it was kind of funny. I'm sure the Dad was pretty pissed though. Sir, if you are out there reading this, I am sorry! We were just having fun and we did not mean to spoil things .:(

I went on TOT one time and a little guy (he was probably 5) had a flashlight. It definately enabled you to see things you weren't meant to see. It was an uncrowded time so I wasn't upset but I can see someone who was on for the 1st time or who had waited hours to get on being upset.

I've experienced this on the hydrolators at Living Seas - teenagers exclaiming to each other how it's all fake, etc. - right in front of some younger children whose parents were none too pleased.

The hydrolators are fake????????????

While riding on HM some guy had a laser pointer and was pointing it through out the whole ride. It was very distracting and rude to everyone else.

It still bugs me to this day!!:sad2:

my pet peeve is on the Jungle Cruise, when some bored bozo rolls his eyes at every joke the captain makes and answers the riddle/joke/question in a very bored, cocky, monotone voice...IMHO, they are some of the best, most fun CM's in the park and I think they really enjoy doing what they do. Any CM deserves respect and they don't get too much of it.

I hope you dont get mad at the people who answer the jokes and riddles in a very positive excited manner.... haha thats me, what can i say im a sucker for bad jokes ha

Another place that can be a problem is in Country Bears. I was there once when apparently about 90% of the crowd were Country Bear Cult followers.

I was with a first timer and had been excited about having them see this show. The music started and the crowd began yelling, and singing, stomping thier feet and clapping hands.

You could not make out a word of the songs because, crowds do not all have rhythm and those out of sinc. made it impossible to understand it.

Instead of my usual fun feeling all I felt was frustration and anger. I know they were just having fun but please have a little courtesy for those that haven't been before. The one's I took made it clear that they never intended to go again. So another possible CB fan bites the dust. Get enough of those and you have a X-attraction.

Everyone, please think of others.

::yes::

My brother, the engineer, has spoiled the HM for me. On his first time on the ride a couple of years ago the ride stopped right in front of the dancing ghosts in the dining room, my favorite part. Well we sat there long enough that he figured out how the "magic" worked and told me.

Now everytime I go past that scene, I can't just be in awe of it, I instead think about the mechanics behind the scene.

We must have had the same Jungle Cruise driver. I really think she really needs to be transferred to another attraction! Her delivery wasn't deadpan as in funny like Steven Wright...she was SO bored it was completely apparent she didn't want to be there.

I was so excited about our boat because we had a GREAT captain when we boarded, he was singing and already making jokes before the boat was even loaded...then they switched him to this other lady and her boredom rubbed off on all the boat passengers.

I went on the HM for the first time this past trip and I am glad those people weren't there when I was! We had a hilarious CM there who kept me roaring by sneaking up behind my MIL and staring at her LOL. Totally deadpan expression, it was priceless.

I agree that it would be nice if people paid attention to those around them and didn't ruin the rides for them! I must say I was pleasantly surprised to see less of that this past trip than in other recent ones...we met a lot of "first time" families this trip and it was wonderful to see them experience the rides for the first time.

I am reading all of these and thinking of past experiences where I encountered such frustrating people. I too get annoyed when people talk when they shouldn't on a ride (I once had a lady talk on her phone in the middle of a ride *sigh* give me a break - you're on VACATION :sad2:). Also, when I took my DH for his first trip there were times that before we got on a ride someone would say something to ruin it for him (ie: as someone else mentioned, the hydrolatorsat the Living Seas. He didn't realize we weren't moving until some big mouth had to say something!).

I get so upset but then I have to think, I know I have probably done this to a family, as well. Not intentional, mind you but on accident. An example I can think of was the first time I went on Rock'nRollercoaster (it was brand new!). After exiting the ride, I was standing there talking to my dad about how fast the take off was and the loop you do go right into. Well, there was a family standing next to us - apparently waiting for someone in the restroom - and they got pretty upset with me...if looks could kill!! I figured they hadn't done the ride yet when the mom came out and said 'Let's do it!" as they walked over to the line. I felt bad but it made me realize we all can get excited about a ride and not think about how the things we are saying could be affecting those around us.

.... LIVING WITH THE LAND boat ride. We were seated about mid-way. There was a group of non-English-speaking young adults behind us. They very loudly chatted in their own language through out the entire ride. They weren't even paying attention to the attraction!

(I have a 9 y/o DS. There are times when he can't curb his enthusiasm or keep his mouth shut, even though we go over the "if-you-are-making-noise-it-spoils-it-for-other-people" scenario. Sometimes I want to scream. But when I look around at other kids - and especially at some grown-ups -- at how TOTALLY annoying and thoughtless they are, I can appreciate what a really great kid my own DS is!!!!)

While I am sure you are impressed with your ability to recite a pre-recorded introduction: just because you CAN does not mean you SHOULD. You're great; very impressive - now please be quiet so we can ALL enjoy the ride!

Cheers!

Is it okay if I'm someone who mouths the words to my friends but doesn't actually produce sound?

I'm also the guy that let's out a big "BWHAHAHA" when it goes dark and then looks around to see who did it when the lights go on...but I don't do it over anything else. :)

When we did Keys to the Kingdom in May, we were in the Stretching room at HM and our tour guide, Rae, mouthed the words to the entired speil- it was so neat. People should do that if they want to show they know all the words- just move their mouth w/out making a sound. That way they can impress their friends w/out disturbing others.

When I was on TOT this past May, there is a part in the ride where glass breaks and it makes a loud noise. Another person on the ride said "Aaah aaaaah chooooo" and pretended to sneeze to sound like he made the glass break- he timed it just right. It was pretty funny, although I don't think it would have been if it was my first time on the ride.

Umm, I don't remember being told not to take pictures on POC. And I have, on occasion. If I ruined it for you sorry! Now on Norway, I know they tell you not to take pictures. And I haven't! I try to do what they tell me, but if the don't tell me not to take pictures, I take pictures! Lots and lots!!

As far as spoiling it for others.....when we were there for our first WDW we went to FOTLK. My dd was just 6. We were waiting for the show to start and these older ladies in back of us were discussing the Tough to be a Bug show. Well. One of them was saying how your 'behind' gets stung by a bee and bugs crawl all over you. My poor dd!!! She heard this and it took 3 more trips to WDW before she got up the nerve to do that attraction!!!
There's a huge difference between reciting lines and being rude, and people having conversations about a ride or attraction.

Yes, you should not recite the lines outloud and possibly ruin the attraction for first timers. However, not talking about an attraction for the fear that a first timer might hear something about it in passing, that's a little bit too much!

However, I will say there have been times when a large group of repeat visitors such as during last year's December gathering has "hijacked" an attraction and we had a ball!!!

Some examples, we filled two complete boats on the Jungle Cruise, we filled an entire stretch room in the Haunted Mansion, we filled an entire library and two entire elevators in Tower of Terror, we filled an entire car in the Great Movie Ride.

We not only repeated the scripts, but made up our own and had some extra sound effects and we had great fun!!

However, no newbies were disrupted or interrupted :-)

On the same token, a large group took a tour of the Animation Studio shortly after all the Florida folks had been shafted and they were still "pretending" all was rosy. When the CM asked if there were any questions, we all kept silent because there were a few "regular" guests there not with our group. We were all respectful of preserving the "show" with these folks. However, if these folks had not been there, we would have fired away.

"Is it okay if I'm someone who mouths the words to my friends but doesn't actually produce sound?"

Of course. What we experienced was having 5 people drown out the ride's narrator. I think it's great that Disney inspires such loyalty and interest that a family would actually know all of the words, but it's not so great when they needed to very loudly parade their knowledge and themselves ahead of others trying to enjoy the ride.

Cheers!

Most annoying on this trip for me was on POC. Me and DH were lucky enough to get the front row. He decided he wanted to video the ride (external lighting off, of course so that it won't bother the other riders) when the guy behind us starting breaking into "yo ho yo ho, a pirate's live for me" at full volume. Of course, the first line was all he knew, but everytime that part of the song came around, he was singing it at the top of his lungs to impress his girlfriend - as she giggled the entire time he sang- and ruined whatever video we could have taped (quit recording at the beginning when we realized this guy was going to sing throughout the entire ride).

Also, last year when we went through the Animation tour at MGM, at the beginning where you watch a movie, the lady in front of us talked on her cell phone through half of it, then the other half she talked loudly to her small child like she was the only one in the room. I'm sure that I've annoyed someone on accident at times, but I think some people just do things on purpose.

Hmmm.... I thought EVERYBODY chimed in with the "Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me." At least they do every time I ride!:hyper:

I have a problem with people (including kids) talking non-stop during the movie/ride. When DH and I were in IASW (I know not the BEST ride ever), but there was this woman who was talking on her cell phone most of the time while there were three ten-year-old kids who kept on commenting every three seconds...literally! It got annoying very quickly.

When we were at MK a little over a week ago, we went for our second ride on POC. This was my BF's first ever trip and our first ride on Pirates was wonderful::yes:: . This second time though, we got the back row. Then this one idiot began taking photo's, pissing me off something major. Well, I said something about it and she surely could here me but didn't stop. I guess the whole damn boat thought what the hell because before you know it at least 6 people had cameras up shooting away. I could not even believe my eyes, people never behaved like that before! I was wishing for a CM to come out from behind some pirate to say something but they never did. If it was my bf's first ride I swear I would have screamed at the lot of them, we had been dreaming of riding it for ages and people should take that into consideration!
There was this one lady on the POTC that was using flash photography and the CM has to use the intercom twice and told her if she continued to do it then the ride would stop and she would be removed from the parks. She got the hint. Plus, she heard from mutters from other people on the boat saying, "Signs all over the park didn't give you a clue to NOT use flash photography and the CM using the intercom to tell you to NOT to use flash photography?!"

That reminds me of another time. When my DH and I went to HM (this was our first time at WDW, we have been to DL several times), we wanted to compare the HM to the one at DL, and there were people just chatting in the stretching room. Just either going off about how "fake it looked" to everyone screaming in the end, etc. It just really killed the mood. I remember being terrified of the stretching room as a child and that having that happen just really sucked.
