Who Are You Ruining It For?

Flash photography on the dark rides is one of my biggest pet peeves! I can't see anything after the flash goes off - it's blinding! And on most of the rides, the directions about no flash photography are very, very clear. I have also been on POC when a CM had to come on the PA multiple times to tell the offending flasher to stop. I've also been on a few times when the person flashed away, and there was not a word from the PA system. Makes me crazy!!!!

Umm, BonnieA......

How about when you take newbies, and you want everything to be new and surprising for them. So before the Indiana Jones show these people in back of us are pointing out the "ringer" audience member when he is selected to be an extra and talking about how he is the stunt guy.

....do you remember when this was?

We must have had the same CM on the Jungle Cruise! It was a she and she looked so bored! She actually just sat and monotoned the entire ride - didn't even try steering the boat and making it look like it was a real boatride. JC for me is extremely boring for me anyway, so this only doubled the effect. Good thing my DS was too young to realize this. I wanted to report her to someone, but my DW threatened to divorce me if I did!

What a major downer!

So, according to most posters, the rest of us can enjoy rides and attractions as long as we sit quiet and don't take pictures? I can understand not jabbering the whole time but remember this is Disney World, not church! Why let what other people do ruin your experience? Being in a theme park I would expect people to talk and take pictures.:earsgirl:

WHAT?! The CM isn't really driving the boat?! Sheesh, all this time I thought they drove the boat.

Sure you can talk, just use your inside ( quiet voice) and take all the pics you want -- without a flash...... simple, really- but some people have no consideration for the comfort of others...shall we call them rude, egocentric, narcissist twits..... yes I say :D

It's rude to take pictures on the rides that specify "NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY." That's what people are talking about (i.e. Pirates of the Carribean). I don't think that's too much to ask of someone (to follow the rules) so ALL the guests have have an enjoyable experience on the rides.

Nope, it runs on a cement track. They dye the water brown so you can't see it. The CM just controls the speed of the boat. Learned that on KTTK :) -Steph

Well thanks for ruining it for me! LOL :teeth:

Geez - next you people are going to be saying that Mickey is not real and it's just a person in a costume! Where do ya'll come up with this stuff?

LOL - seriously, I had been to WDW 3 times before I knew the hydrolators didn't really move! I'm still not sure I believe that....it sure feels like you're moving!

I am RIGHT THERE WITH YA!!! I know they're fake...but, they are GOOD!!! I lose my stomach EVERYTIME I go in those things. My DH thinks it is the funniest thing ever that I get queasy over nothing!!!! I didn't know they were a fake until my mom, who is claustrophobic panicked and had to be taken out of the hydrolator. The CM announced that she could "use the stairs", but when the door opened on the other side...she jumped out and yelled, "Boo" at us (and she did not ruin it for anyone else...we were the only ones in the hydrolator). We were stunned...there was NO way she could've made the stairs that fast. Didn't help that she had a HUGE grin on her face!!! I was SOO mad to know that it wasn't real. But, now I just pretend that it is real!!! ::yes::

I know this is not the "purpose" of this thread...but, do you guys see my counter? I haven't been to WDW in TWO years!!!! Even complaining about how people have "ruined" rides for others has got me ITCHING to go back and ride them!!!!

Man, do I need at WDW fix!!!!

Okay - here's my story! We were on the Safari on our last trip - a family was seated behind us, a mom and dad and two teenage sons. Well the three "boys" start right in on the mom telling her to stop taking pictures of the animals because they were all fake. The mom seemed a little gullible, and fought them for a while, but then gave up until she saw the baby elephants (the real ones - not Little Red). She started arguing with them again because of course the whole truck was Ohhh-ing and Ahhh-ing about the babies. One of her sons says, "Jeez, Mom. Just coz all these people are falling for it, doesn't mean you have to." Then I hear a little one in the back of the truck asking her parents if the animals are real.

Well, DH digs his nails into my knee, but I turn around anyway. I tell the mom, that yes, the animals are real, and yes, those are real baby elephants. She says thank you, and both teenagers roll their eyes at me! Needless to say, when we went searching for poachers, these boys had plenty to say about my comments about things being real!

I wanted to clobber them!

Sometimes (not all the time) it is irksome when people don't "play along" with the ride theming. Like in the Safari, when the driver asks if we don't mind helping with the poachers, I always want to shout, "Sure, Let's go!!" or on RNRCoaster, when Steven Tyler suggests backstage passes...we always cheer! And there are usually at least 3/4 the crowd that stands there in silence...like...duh....lets just get to the rollercoaster.

Different from reciting with the script, but just responding to it, to get "into" the ride/attraction. :)

I agree and it's real fun to get into the spirit of the rides/shows. Trust me, anyone who is there the first half of December will know if they are on a ride with me and my sister. We're bad enough on our own, but the two of us together are triple the fun! ;)

But no, we don't ruin things for others!

Yup...that's about it. You may feel it is your right to take pictures in spite of being asked not too. What you are doing is ruining the "effect" of the ride. The lighting etc. was set up to support the illusion that they wanted. Flashing lights or bright spots destroy the effect for everyone, including yourself, I might add.

There are a million places in WDW to take pictures that are #1 better quality because of the lighting and #2 acceptable locations and no one cares if you take them or not. I've seen people take pictures at 3D movies for crying out loud. Can't imagine what those ended up looking like.

Even though it is a theme park it is not exclusively YOUR theme park. It would be nice if one could consider other people and basically act like they would like others to act, considerate!
::yes::

Also, the flashing can trigger migraines in some people. I think seizures in some people, too, but I'm not sure about that one. To deal with the migraine risk from the actual show, etc, is something a person needs to be aware of, but to have the risk of a migraine from a person not following the rules is not right.
