4/26/25 continued Why Did We Wait 19 Years to Return to Boma?
So after that rather eventful Mass, we headed to Animal Kingdom Lodge for our reservation at Boma. Since I was so late booking my ADR, I could only get a 6:30 reservation. We arrived at 5:30 and asked the hostess if we could be seated earlier. We were seated within a few minutes.
DH wasn’t thrilled with my decision to eat at Boma. He didn’t think there would be enough things that he would like on the buffet. He kept saying he was only going to be able to get the pasta and meatballs from the kids’ section and naan bread with hummus. Well, I’m happy to report that not only did he find many things to eat, he absolutely loved our meal there, especially the butternut squash soup and chicken corn chowder. Here’s his soups (he ended up having a couple refills):
And here’s his plate of naan, mealie bread and hummus for us to share:
Here’s my first plate (clockwise): tamarind rib, durban chicken, African strip loin, peanut rice, sweet corn pudding, olive-oil herbed crushed potatoes. I tried to get a little of everything to be able to try as much as possible.
All of this was delicious! The rib had a decent amount of meat and a sweet tamarind sauce, the chicken was moist and well seasoned, the strip loin was tender and nicely spiced. The peanut rice was a little dry but had a nice flavor. The sweet corn pudding was creamy as were the olive oil potatoes.
I tried the Cape Malay Lamb Stew:
I liked the stew but the lamb was a bit strong for my tastes.
My second plate (clockwise): green beans with golden raisins, salmon, Tunisian couscous and shrimp salad, and tabbouleh.
I loved this second plate as well! Everything was so unique and full of flavor!
I also took a taste of the chicken corn chowder and butternut squash soup. Both were excellent!
DH and I shared a sample dish of all of the desserts so we could review them here: (clockwise) chocolate chip cookie, butterscotch bread pudding, zebra dome, coffee brownie, apple cranberry tart, passionfruit mousse, vanilla bean mini-cheesecake (center).
DH loved the chocolate chip cookies and gave them a “B+”. I didn’t try them. He said they tasted like freshly baked Toll House cookies. We both loved the butterscotch bread pudding, “A”. I liked the zebra dome but I’m not as crazy about it as some people are, “B-”. We both loved the apple cranberry tart, “A”. The vanilla bean cheesecake was fine, “C+”. I didn’t care for the coffee brownie, it was a little dry and the coffee flavor was very strong, “C-”. We don’t care for passionfruit so we both disliked the mousse. It was far too tart, it made me pucker “D+”.
Overall we absolutely loved this meal! DH didn’t even need to try the pasta and meatballs from the kids’ station. In fact, we loved it so much that DH said, “we have to take the boys here when they come”. I had to rework our dining schedule but we were able to squeeze in another dinner ADR with them! Boma dinner now outranks Boma breakfast for us and it has become a must-do restaurant.
