HHN is great if you're into the scary stuff, but it's rather expensive to begin with, and the only way to see the majority of the houses and ride the rides w/o spending lots of time in line is to get the express pass which makes it very expensive. It's kind of designed to make it impossible to see and do it all in one night, thus encouraging locals and others to do repeat visits.

I don't agree that you need the Express Passes to see all the houses.I've never once bought them and always see all the houses and shows.I'm always at the parks during the day and around 5pm you go into their Stay and Scream area where they hold you until about 6pm,about an hour before the event officially starts,in that extra hour you can do 2-3 houses with no wait.Also of course don't go on a peak Friday or Saturday night.Try doing an early in the month Wednesday,Thursday or Sunday.If you plan right they're not needed.
