Which hotel for side trip to coast?

I've just spent a few hours looking at accomodations for HB, Laguna, Imperial Beach, San Diego, Carlsbad and Newport for a hotel that is on the beach, has a pool and isn't more than $175 per night. That doesn't seem like it would be hard to find, but I just can't find one!!! Possibly, I'm on overload and computer zombie state is taking over.

I do have 1-2 free nights at Marriott that I will use for when we go to SW and the Zoo, but I wanted another 2 nights on a fairly quiet beach. Am I asking too much, or does anyone know of a great place? I've never used Priceline and probably wouldn't because I'd be worried if our plans changed whereas with the hotel directly, I could easily change if need be since we aren't going until mid-July. I have 3 DDs (11,8 and 5) who LOVE to play on the beach but seem to love swimming in the hotel pool almost as much.

Any advice would be SOOO appreciated!

If you decide that you don't have to be "directly on the beach" I highly recommend The West Inn & Suites in Carlsbad. This is an incredible place to stay. All their rooms have king sized beds (we stayed in a king/king) that are sooo comfy, gorgeous rooms, great pool area, really nice hot breakfast with lots of choices (for free), and cookies and milk nightly.

It took us less than 5 min to drive to the beach so it was really convenient.

Thank you, but according to their site, I would need two rooms since I have my DH and 3DDs or there was a suite room, but it was $329. Thanks anyways. It looks really nice!

I am in the same boat as you are. Once you go over 5 they jack you big time. Please post what you find. Would like to try surfing again.

Well, if your girls are willing to share a king sized bed, you could get a king/king room. I had no problem with it and my kids are (10, 7, 5). They didn't bat an eye at us sharing that room. I called with the reservation though so I could get a AAA discount.

If you want to stay at a hotel with a big pool area (with cabanas), I'd like to suggest the Hyatt La Jolla. It is not beach front. But I was able to get this hotel for $165 a night (taxes included) + $14 for parking. This is the hotel we always stay in. It is a close drive to Carlsbad (we have friends who live there). Plus, we love the pool area. We usually order in dinner and eat it by the pool (we noticed other families doing that too). PM me if you want that rate.

Hi, thank you for the info. I pm'd you, but I did notice on the website that there is a max of 4 per room. ?

Hi Laurie:

I sent you a PM back with the info. With 5 in your room, you may not be able to fit all in one room due to fire code. I was told by Hyatt it depends on each individual hotel, so you may have to speak to the Hyatt La Jolla directly about your 3 young children and the impracticality of them being in their own room. Or look at other options, such as getting a suite upgrade after getting your $165 rate.

Hope that helps!
Christine
