Where did you honeymoon? Was it budget?

We did the driving distance thing and stayed at a cabin on the Gunflint Trail in northern MN. It was less than $1000 for the week. We mostly cooked our own food. Our two biggest splurges were one night out to fancier dinner and hiring a guide to take us fishing.

It was really the most amazing time. The first time really we had had alone. My DH has had custody of his two boys since they were very young so we had instant family. So it was truly a treat to be alone for a whole week and just enjoy each other's company.

DH an I married in the middle of winter after an ice storm hit the area we spent the night in a local hotel doddled around the next day did not go home till late evening BIG MISTAKE!!! 1st thing DH did was go in bathroom take a dump an flush toliet only to have the sewer back up into the bathroom as the sewer line had froze while we was away. About 10 pm that night oil in oil line to furnace froze so now no heat along with no bathroom. DH had a little electric heater for the bedroom so we was at least warm for the night.

Got up next morning every water pipe we had had frozen an busted over night I made some biscuits to help heat up kitchen a bit had the heater in kitchen as well. We sat down to eat an there went the electric too line had frozen an broke near by. I still had my gas stove tho lol

DH got on phone found us a cheap hotel near by an we checked in there for a week cost a whole 35.00 for the week so YES IT WAS BUDGET! I used the bathtub for a fridge we'd go out buy stuff for breakfast an either get stuff for lunch or dinner the next day an maybe eat while we was out. I had me a presto burger maker in the room that I took over there an a crock pot so I was eating good. BTW this was 1977.

The metal bed in room was so wobbly that it banged wall if ya looked at it. But we was warm had a bathroom an running water.

It was a heck of a way to start out tho lol DH an I laugh about it everytime we drive by where the hotel was at it's long gone.....

Weather was so bad there was no school for a month!!!

We went camping in Nova Scotia for a week in the fall. It was awesome, and wasn't too hugely expensive either. I'd do ti againin a heartbeat!

We honeymooned on Cape Cod. DH's uncle owns a small cottage on the beach in Truro (near Provincetown) He let us stay for free. As we paid for 90% of the wedding ourselves, we couldn't afford anything fancy so this was great for us.

Another budget suggestion is Montreal. We spent our 1st and 2nd anniversary there. We used Priceline to find a great deal on a hotel. It's almost a small piece of France in Canada. This would be nice if you wanted to experience French culture and language, but can't afford to go to Paris.

DH and I went to WDW for our honeymoon in 1996. It was budget (stayed at All Star Music), and it was perfect. It was the first time DH had ever been to WDW (and his first time on a plane, on a vacation, in Florida, etc.). It was wonderful. We got a lot of snickers from friends when we told them where we were going, but we loved it.

We stayed at the Royal Hideaway in Playacar (south of Cancun). It was all-inclusive, but not in an all-buffet kind of way, so definitely not budget. But so very nice. Nothing like a cutey beach waiter bringing you trays of coconut-y drinks and fresh fruit while bask in the sun (oh hush, I know it was my honeymoon, but he had dimples for pete sakes! :rotfl: )

But my favorite vacations with DH (mind you, haven't been to Europe yet):

1) Banff, staying at the Rimrock (went in winter, skiing and ice skating if you like, but my fave memory was the moonlit horse-drawn sleigh ride). I would LOVE to go back in the summer b/c it is just gorgeous, but it's a lot pricier then. BTW, prices at the Rimrock and the two area Fairmonts are normally through the roof, but the recession has lead to some amazing pricing.

2) San Francisco and the wine country -- you can do this very expensive, or less pricey using priceline and biddingfortravel.com.

3) Disney Cruise: oooohCastaway Cayohhhh :beach: ) Whether DCL or another, I concur that a cruise can be a very good bang for your buck -- can seem pricey, but not when you consider what's included and limit your excursions. And if you sail DCL, you can always add on a few days at WDW before you sail ;) I know it seems like more of a "family" thing, but DH and I found it very romantic and relaxing (top notch adult only areas. :thumbsup2 )

DH and I went to St. John, USVI. It wasn't budget friendly due to staying for 2 weeks. But, it was the best vacation we've ever took. In fact we make it a point to go back to St. John every other year......we'll be there in June this year with friends of ours - CAN'T WAIT!

Disney World of course! We had ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo on our wedding cake. It wasn't terribly expensive but I wish I knew then what I know now about planning a Disney vacation. We rented a car, stayed off-site for a week, and then stayed in Clearwater at a friend's parents' condo for a second week. It was wonderful.

We were married in September of 1980. Made ressies at a resort in Poincianna for the entire week. We planned on a week at Magic Kingdom since Epcot was just breaking ground. I had stayed at this resort a few years prior on a college trip and thought it was perfect. We flew out of NY that same night and arrived in Florida during a driving thunderstorm. Got lost over a hour getting to the resort. We finally found our way, and checked into a room that smelled like someone had died in it. There was white film over all the furniture. It was well after midnight and we were exhausted. Needless to say we checked out the next am. Being this was before cell phones :rotfl2: we were nervous about finding a place to stay. We ended up in a KNIGHT'S INN. I think it was $29 for a night. To this day we laugh about the red shag carpet, and the purple faux velvet spreads with the 2 crossing swords over the bed.:lmao: It was definately budget!
