When to book?

I'm not sure this is in the right folder. If not, please feel free to move it. We are planning our boys' first trip to WDW for May 2012. We plan to book airfare through Southwest because that is our airline of choice always. We cannot book that part until 5-6 months out. I was wondering how far in advance we should book the hotel though? Right now it looks like a package with hotel and park tickets would be cheapest through the Disney site itself instead of a secondary site. If we were to book now and a discount came up, would we be able to apply that after? I'd hate to book and be locked into full rack rates. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks!!!

Yes, you can book now and if discounts come out, apply them to your reservation. I booked our May 2012 trip a month ago. I prefer to do this to make sure I get the resort I want in case it were to fill up. You can book your dining 180 before your arrival date. Hope this helps!
