When staying at a disney resort how many of you tip your housekeepers

We are a family of 5 and leave $10. Per day. Just the way I was raised and never thought muchabout it. Just always considered it a common courtesy. Always left it in bathroom on counter. Never once did housekeeping fail to take it. Sometimes they even left a thank you message and/Or a nice towel surprise for DGD.

My husband and I leave a couple dollars each day and we usually throw in a few extra dollars on our last day.

I'll be honest....it just never occurs to me. I don't intentionally not tip, just don't think about it.

On our last trip our mousekeeper at pop cleaned the room spotless every single day. I had bought the kids stuffed Mickeys and every day we came home to Mickey getting into trouble. He would be eating cookies in bed or taking a bath in the tub or having a picnic with minnie etc. It was so much fun to come home to the daily surprise. We also often had owel animals. I tipped 5 to 20 each day and it was worth more to have such a neat experience.

We usually tip when we go anywhere. There are just the 2 of us adults and try to keep the room clean as possible. That being said we usually leave $2-$5 a day - normally placing the money on the pillow.
On my birthday trip last year, we were at Coronado Springs - There was a large convention going on at the time, and we were one of a few non-convention guests. Maybe the mousekeeper did not like that we left our rooms later in the morning, rather than at the crack of dawn like many convention guests, but one night we had come home to find the money still on the pillow with the note pad and pen. So the next day, we left it (I think we doubled it), with a note of thanks. Still, it was not picked up. Of the 7 days that we were there, I believe on at least 3 days, the tip was refused!? On our day of check out I think we left $10/$15 - this way it could not be refused.
I don't know if we were under tipping, or why the tip was never received (even with a note), but I kind of felt embarrassed. We did not feel that the rooms were sparkling and never once received a towel character or curtain design (ok fine we are adults) we did not have this issue on our previous visit to this resort!

On second thought, maybe they did not like finding black towels in the tub one morning when I had to clean it! Coronado decided to flush the pipes and not provide notice to the guests (or staff for that matter as anyone we called was oblivious to our calls). As I was preparing to shower, the water pressure dropped off and black sandy water came gushing from the faucet, until finally loosing all water. 15 minutes later the water came back on an all was clear – but we were left with a filthy tub!

I think I will try the envelopes for our POP/PO vacation in the fall.

Sorry for the long post !

We try to tip daily at least $1 per person, and more if the kids have made any kind of mess we can't clean ourselves. We also try to tip everywhere we travel. I say "try" because sometimes we don't have the proper currency, and generally it seems like it would be more of a bother for housekeeping to be left foreign money. I just think it's probably not the most enjoyable job in the world to clean up other people's mess, so I like to tip, but that's a personal choice and I don't think anyone is obligated to tip.

we leave about $3-5 every morning, depending on what cash we have on hand - but always leave some - they deserve a tip, IMO, esp when they do fun stuff with the animals and towels, etc- my kids love it.

We will be this year. My parents never tipped, so it wasn't something I learned about until I was an adult and have only seen it done one other time!

my DH and i always leave $5 daily in an envelope marked "MouseKeeper!"

it's a small price to pay for someone to (hopefully) make our beds, clean the toilet and not steal our stuff...

Funny , now that you mention it, WDW is the only place i tip for housekeeping, maybe thats because they do a little extra for our kids and decorate our rooms with towel animals and they always make a scene with our kids stuffy aniimals

We never do. We tip well beyond the 20% for good service for lunch or dinner but not for somebody to make my bed and make a towel animal. Couldn't they just take your $5.00 dollars and do a bad job and walk away to the next room. Why should you tip somebody for a service that has not been rendered?

I am probably gonna hear about this but..I think that someone who cleans my toilet deserves an extra 2-3$$ a day. Imo it is a thankless job and one I could never do. I dont think an extra $20 after spending thousands on a trip will hurt me. But it just may make someone elses day!! JMO

Ya I guess they could but have you ever had someone do a bad job? Probably not, right. Just think if you added a buck or 2!

not trying to be different but just never thought to tip unless someone was not getting paid..i.e. waitress/valet.................everyone knows they get a fraction of minimum wage.................

its not a thankless job, I do keep my room as clean as I can, I empty trash, I make my own bed, , keep everything tidy!! I respect the housekeeping staff. I am a nurse, it can be a "thankless job sometimes", I do things one would never imagine doing to another human body...we don't accept or expect tips and you can't get much more personal than being somone's nurse.................I know what I am getting into when I went to school......I do thank everyone that does anything for me............I don't make anyone clean up "my mess", I don't make a mess in a hotel................

Would anyone feel bad let's say you left a $10 and they didn't do a good job and they did it again the next day after leaving another $10. How would you know if you should leave another $10 if you don't know if it's going to be a different mousekeeper and if they are going to do a good job? Would you wish you can get those $10 back? I'm just asking.. I am in no means to debate. :)

I leave $5/day unless I don't feel they are doing a good job.

The only tip I resented quite a bit on my most recent trip was the one the resort airline check in person practically demanded. She had this whole spiel about how this was just like curbside check in and that she was the person who would make sure my bag got where it was going. The implication was clear: tip me or who knows where your bag will end up.

We had the EXACT same thing on our last trip to Disney. The only difference was the employee at Disney was slighly more tactful about it. We flew SW to Disney for the first time and was the first time we've ever flown an airline that had curbside check-in. When the guy got done he very rudely informed us, "You are supposed to tip me!" Um, excuse me? He then followed up with, "This is a convenience...blah, blah, blah." I just said, "Thanks. I'll remember that for next time." We don't carry cash with us typcially and we only had a $20 bill. I was not about to tip this guy $20 when he was getting paid to take care of our luggage to start out with. I just couldn't believe how rude it was for him to DEMAND a tip.
