When is a PIN code NOT a PIN code?

This has me VERY confused.

I received an email today from Disney saying that if I wanted to book my WDW vacation at POFQ from 4/25 - 4/29 (which is what I had called and priced out last week) I should call Disney and reference PIN code XYZ.

So I call all happy thinking I'm going to get a good deal (room only disc, free dining, etc), and the CM tells me my dates aren't available for that PIN code.

How does THAT happen?

The dates I want are right on the email yet the PIN isn't valid for my dates? Why would you send me a email referencing my dates, then send me a PIN that I can't use?

The CM couldn't help me after that, she kept on saying, the dates you want aren't available under that code.

Needless to say...I'm bummed!

What a disapointment! I can just imagine how happy you were thinking you got a pin you could use!
They must have some sort of form letter that takes the info from people inquiring about a vacation, then blindly fills out the form to get people to call back. It may have never even considered the date.

A similar thing happened to me. I called and inquired about rates. A couple of days later I got an e-mail with a PIN code. The rates were great but the dates for the PIN code ended 1 month before we were going. I think they do this on purpose.

Now, was it a pin code that is several letters/numbers long or a three letter combo?

If it was a three letter code, it wasn't actually a pin, but just an advertisement about a current GP discount. They do that and it does sound like a pin, but it isn't. When the dates aren't available it is because they've already booked out during those dates. Of course, that can happen with a pin too. That's why it says limited amount of rooms available and to hurry. They send out x amount of pins knowing a certain % won't use them. It's playing the odds. Not fun, maybe even cruel. Better luck next time!

Did you see if your resort was available for these dates using the buy 4/get 3 free deal?

Nope..it's a PIN. 15 numbers long.

I may try calling again, just to see if a different CM gives me the same information.

Unfortunately, DH & I are only going for a long weekend...4 nights tops, so while I'd love to go for 7 nights, the grandparents will only watch the kids for so long.

Spoke to another CM late last night who told me the same thing, then put me in touch with Guest Relations. I'm faxing over a copy of the email for them to look at this morning, I guess we'll see what happens.

I got the same kind of email/pin a couple months ago.

The CM I spoke with when I booked also kept saying "I can't find that pin code under your name."

Please let us know what you find out. I'm still sad about this and a little frustrated. It's our first trip, and this just isn't good PR for Disney. Why send us a pin if you have no record of it???

I received ANOTHER pin code today...same dates...but now staying at WL.

Called again, and was told that same thing...not available for your dates.

I was ALSO told that these are computer generated. So if you go to the Disneyworld website and price out either a package or just room only and SAVE IT, it USUALLY generates an email to you.

So even though it references the dates I want, it's sending me a pin code for dates I'm NOT looking at.

BUMMER!

Did they tell you what dates the pin is good for? Because when I called, they said they couldn't find the pin code itself. In other words--no record of it.

Did they have your pin code on record at least?

If not, I'm going to wonder what the point of these emails is. It seems like false advertising to make up a pin code that doesn't actually exist....

My name DOES have the pin code associated with it...actually 2 pin codes now. The dates were something like 3/1-3/14 and then not until 6/1 and forward. Everything between 3/15 - 5/31 was blacked out.

I did reply to the email to let them know how disappointed I was. They send me an email, reference the dates & resort I want, tell me to call the reservation number and USE my pin code, and yet it's not available for my dates.

Maybe they are trying to entice guests to stay during different times. That's what it sounds like. :confused3

The same thing happened to me a couple of monthes ago. I was online researching resorts for our trip next December, 2009. A couple of weeks later I received an email with the dates I was looking at for next year and a pin code. When I called about it, it turns out it was for this December. I was very disappointed but I booked my trip anyway. Now I'm just hoping I get another one for my trip next year.

I'm sure we'll still book the trip (unless DH decides the 5 night cruise to Bermuda would be better...no flying), but a PIN code could mean the difference between staying at BC versus WL or POFQ.
