When does your school go back after 1/1/06?

I'm trying to figure out if the crowds will be bad when we are there in early January.

I have skipped a few days in that first week, because I can't imagine that schools would restart near the end of the week.

I was thinking it would be like the last time we went for NYE when the parks emptied out the day after New Years.

I have a similar post on the family boards. It seems that there are several different school vacations this year.

We are out intil 1/9/06(That's here in CA). Someone posted that Atlanta schools are out the same week. Many other districts go back anywhere from the 3rd or the 4th. I am curious to see if you get better feedback than I did. I had about 5 repsonses.

Ours actually go back on the 5th Diane. There is a teacher work day on the 4th. (Fayette Co. GA)

Oops voted for the 2nd, but DH and DS really return on 1/3. That'll give us a day wiggle room waiting for the SWA flights to be posted.

Our kids get almost a full month off I do believe. We go the first 2 week of Dec then they are in school for a week then off for the remainder.

The crowds are lighter after New Year's Eve. Any of these dates should be fine.

I am surprised so many are going back the 2nd. That is the official National Holiday since the actual holiday falls on a Sunday. Our school district was originally scheduled to go back on the 2nd, but when I pointed it out to board of ed members, they went back and changed it. It was a whole process since they had already set the calendar.

Wow, that's a lot of vacation time! Do your kids have "year round" school?

I'm feeling a little better now that maybe I was right after all, and the first week should be all right. For those of you have vacation until Jan. 9, what part of the country are you in? I thought one person was ini Georgia, and that might mean Disney travel. We have always had low crowds before in January, so I was surprised when someone suggested that might not be the case this year.

I am in GA and my kids go back on Thursday the 5th

I'm feeling like it will get progressively less crowded as the week goes on. That means we should have at least 5 days of light touring!

Diane, my kids go back Jan. 9th. We are in Southern Alabama.(Baldwin Co.) I'm not sure about Mobile co. or the Birmingham region. This is the latest that I can recall going back after New Years. I was thinking about a short trip myself!

As I said before, we go back on the 9th and I was planning a trip that week. I guess I still may. It may be more crowded than usual but still better than any other holiday time.

Here in NYC we go back on Jan 3rd.
