Hi,
Still doing my add-on research....this is half the fun:goodvibes

I was wondering what everyone's home resort is and why you
love it...

Any changes you would like seen at your resort...

Also if you could add on anywhere....where would it be?
I'll start....

We own at WLV....I love it because the minute I walked into the lodge
I just fell in love:love: ......peace and serenity...

I wish WL didn't share any buses....but I know they all do.
As for add-ons....I have a tie in my head between WLV again....
and BWV or AKV.
Thanks
Kerri

We've been owners at OKW since '96 and have added on twice. We love Florida and OKW gives us that laid back, relaxing feel. Being as frugal as I am, it's great that this resort has the lowest point schedule of them all. So we are able to get the biggest bang for our buck. Having larger rooms is also a plus.

When we want a different feel, we'll book at another resort, but OKW has been our requested resort for 80% of our stays.

BWV -Why, well three reasons, location, location, location. Other than that my kids love the little street shows on the Boardwalk. Also my DW and I love being able to get to 2 of the 4 parks by taking a nice walk together with the kids......what ever you decide will be good, its Disney.

Good Luck

I have two home resorts.

VWL
Love the theming. I could just sit around in the main lobby and look up. I love the closeness to the MK, my favorite park, and enjoy the boat ride over.
It would be nice if there were a concierge level there.

AKV
Animals, animals, animals. Nuff said about that.

We bought OKW in '95, added Vero in '97 and SSR in '04. Most of our stays have been at OKW and to me it just feels like our 2nd home. We have stayed at all the DVCs except AKL (hopefully '09). I would have to say that I think OKW & SSR are our choices for a relaxing WDW vacation, with our ds being 19 now and after almost 13 years we haven't been commando vacationers for years. (We still use PH we bought in '02:rotfl: ) The one thing that I wish DVC didn't do was spoil me. Whenever we vacation now outside of DVC, I find that I can't stand to be in a regular hotel room--so our other vacations tend to be a bit more expensive than they would have been if I wasn't so spoiled.

I was wondering what everyone's home resort is and why you love it...

We own at our four favorite DVC resorts:
  • VWL - Magnificently rendered theme; Quiet, peaceful and romantic setting/architecture; Just a relaxing boat ride away from the Magic Kingdom
  • BCV - Location! Just a few minutes walk to Epcot; Stormalong Bay: 3-acre mini-water park
  • BWL - Lively atmosphere on the Boardwalk midway; Boardwalk view offers great view of Crescent lake; Ten-minute walk to Epcot; 15-minute walk to DHS
  • AKV - Great exotic theme; the Savannah with views of the animals; Quiet, relaxed atmosphere
In summary, VWL and AKV are relaxing and have great themes, while BCV and BWV have great locations and there is a lot to do.

Also if you could add on anywhere....where would it be?

I'm very interested in the possibility of a DVC resort at the Contemporary (the possible CRV). I am also somewhat interested in adding on at the GCV at Disneyland.

We own SSR and AKV. When we toured SSR the first time, it was an immediate attraction. The styling and architecture of the units. Everything that the resort is offering in amenities. The surrounding property of the resort. And lastly, the location....we love DTD! We usually hit DTD the first day and last day of our trips, and at least one or two more times during our trips.

We added on at AKV when it became available. Why, because AKL is our favorite non-DVC resort. We love the African Theming and all of the animals. It has two great resturants, with hopefully the new TS making it three. We are foodies, and love to eat nice meals. And lastly, we wanted to be able to stay club level. No other DVC has that feature. The only downside to AKV for us is remote location. Its far from all of the parks, except AK but you still need to take a bus to get there. Because of that reason, we are not going to add-on anymore to AKV.

Funny I was just looking at the low points for that grand villa at OKW.....
very appealing

Besides low point standard rooms.....I love location of BWV...wish they
had a real counter service though...

Yes concierge would be awesome at WLV.
I wish all savannah views were created equally, awesome restaurants though...and kids club on site.

When we stayed at SSR....we only went to the parks 2 days....place
was so relaxing....I am also spoiled....never considered a suite before....
now I feel I need a 1 BR unit instead of a studio.....SPOILED::yes::

Wow....talk about covering your bases.....having so many 11 month
booking advantage:worship: your my hero:goodvibes CRV would be
an awesome addition....has that ever been confirmed yet?

Club level, value rooms, kids club onsite(jambo) and great restaurants
make AKV very appealing.
I agree...SSR is VERY relaxing.

Thanks everyone....keep em coming:goodvibes

We own at BWV, VB, VWL, AKV and BCV and except for VB, we have added on at all of them.

The one of that bunch that surprised me the most was BCV because they were selling BCV when we bought at BWV, but went with BWV because of the lower points of the standard view, and we very often bring guests and book more rooms, so that seemed like the way to go. Plus, we had VWL, which would always be the higher point value, so we didn't think owning BCV would add much to our "portfolio."

Well, we were wrong, and we decided that this is definitely the pool that we want to take our DGC to, sometimes at least! We definitely will want the 2 bedroom dedicated with 2 Q's and so owning became a goal...which we have met, and will be booking soon for their first stay there! We'll be booking the 2 bedroom and either 1 or 2 studios...don't have enough for the studios for all days, but I'm willing to risk the 7 month booking period...guests understand. We also use our BCV points when I go to Epcot's Flower and Garden show, but at this time, owning BCV points hasn't really been a factor there. We've used other points then as well, even wanting 2 studios.

Bobbi:goodvibes

PS. Notice that we don't have any OKW points, and DH said to me that when we retire and spend the month of January in Florida he will want to spend the bulk of that time in OKW's 1 bedroom:)

I will be staying at OKW in a 2400 square ft, three bedroom, Grand Villa for only 180 points for five nights from January 27- Feb 1!

There is nothing like this available at any of the other resorts!

Talk about a wonderful getaway from Wisconsin winters.

BWV is my favorite because of the standard view room category and location, location, location. I need an easy walk after a long day at Food and Wine.

:worship: another DVC'er after my heart....owning almost everywhere:goodvibes
Funny I was thinking the same thing....I want to own at an epcot resort....
yet I'm thinking BWV for the same reason....lower points...I didn't even
think about BCV because of the higher points...I have WL for that:goodvibes
we stayed there in Aug....that pool is really cool.

All the other OKW points are also very low so there is no way they can change it very much!

Our main home resort is Boardwalk which we love! We love the theme of the resort and the decorating. Also love that we can walk to both Epcot and the Studios. Another plus is the wide range of dining options.

We also own a smaller contract at Vero. This was bought mainly as a gift option for my in-laws which hasn't worked out as hoped so we'll be selling it soon (after we stay there one last time next month).

As for adding on. The other reason we are looking to sell Vero is to put some money away to buy in at Ko Olina when sales open up. We stayed at Marriott's Ko Olina back in February thanks to DVC and are looking at adding enough points we can stay in a one bedroom for a week every 3 years.

Our two homes are SSR and AKV. Love 'em both.

SSR--very elegant and a true get-away. Plus, we really prefer being able to park in front of our villa. Love the access to DTD.

AKV--it is just so UNIQUE. You can be there and not know that you are at Disney (I mean, I love being at Disney of course...:rotfl2: )....but when at AKV it is almost like having two vacations for the price of one. You do the Disney thing all day, then you can be at your resort and feel completely transported to another time and place. I just love that.

Also, the longer expiration dates were key factors for us. While we love the location of BCV as well as the pool, it has an earlier end date (which may get an extension offer like OKW) and the higher point structure. As for now, we'll continue to take our chances at the 7-month window. We have always gotten into BWV at 7 months so I am hopeful that we will be able to stay at the BW area resorts when the desire arises.

We will likely do one more add-on before we are done (but I have heard that from so many others....you are never really done adding on it seems! :rotfl2: ). We are interested in CRV because of the monorail. Our favorite parks are Epcot and MK, so to have monorail access to both of those right from the resort is worth a lot to us. However, as I continue to say....I really don't like that awful C-shaped thing and that might prevent an add-on there. We'll also have to wait and see what they points and MFs look like....both could be way over the top!

I wonder if we're the only family to own points at two DVC resorts that we have not frequented and have no immediate plans to, and have only bought there because of the lower yearly maintenance fee - HH and VB -:upsidedow

I own at BWV for two reasons: 1) Location. Epcot is my favorite park, and I spend 90% of my time there. It's so convenient to be a 10 minute walk to the park. Plus, the view from a BW-view room is second to none (there's nothing like staring at your favorite park from your balcony). 2) Theming. I love, love, love the theming of the BWV.

We bought at AKV as after our stay at AKL in 2004 this became a resort with alot of things we liked such as the pool, Boma, Victoria Falls Lounge, the Mara plus the animals and the tranquil location.

Claire ;)

Our home is BWV, but we've NEVER stayed there, and have absolutely no desire to stay there! We had wanted to buy when OKW was just DVC and the only resort, but DH lost his job and we had to put our 2nd home on the back burner for a few years. When we were able to buy, we were told that the only thing available was BWV, so that's what we bought.

We always stay at OKW because of the laid back, relaxing feel that PP described. It's also a bonus that we can get a bigger room for fewer points. I also like the idea of being able to park right outside your room - makes it feel more like "home" than walking down the interior hallways at BWV. It also could be that as New Jerseyans, the "real" Boardwalk experience is less than an hour away.

The location upside that everyone raves about just is not important to DH and myself. We'd rather have the ambiance that comes with OKW over the location that you get with BWV.
