Trying Jiko on our next trip and when looking at the menu, not sure what's good.

We've eaten here many times so we've tried just about everything. I think that the appetizers are the best thing at Jiko. Much much better than the entrees. The flatbreads are all excellent. I love the Taste of Africa. We usually get a sampler platter, not listed on the menu, that provides a bit of everything. The soups here are all very very good.

Out of the entrees, I like the short ribs the best, followed by the filet. The chicken is pretty spicy (not hot, but spicy) and I have not been impressed with any of the fish dishes.

None of the desserts have wowed me.

My husband had the seared maize cake and thought it was absolutely amazing. I don't like corn so I didn't like it, of course.

I had the Swahili shrimp curry and it was far and away the single best item I ate on vacation. It was interesting because there were a lot of different ingredients (shrimp, artichoke hearts, peas, tomatoes, coconut rice, curry sauce ... forget what else) and each one had its own distinct flavor but any combination of ingredients worked beautifully together. It was a really interesting experience.

Jiko was our best meal of the trip.

my husband loves the filet w/the mac and cheese! this is no ordinary mac and cheese! i really enjoy the BBQ chicken flatbread w/the apples on the appetizer menu for an entree.:yay:

I was there for my last birthday and had the short ribs. They are absolutely delicious and not to be missed. I highly recommend! The flat bread with all the different toppings/spreads are also delicious.

I agree - the mac and cheese is awesome! :thumbsup2

DH loves the Filet w/ mac and cheese. I love the goat cheese mashed potatoes. I plan on getting the BBQ chicken flatbread next time. Mmmmm...

The filet was outstanding...we went a year ago and DH is still talking about it

Lamb shank:confused3:confused3:confused3

I guess it's off the current menu--but it was a very satisfying, homey dish.
Allears has a pork shank listed on the menu now and it sounds very similar in preparation to the lamb shank.

DH liked the Creme Brulee (that man hasn't met a brulee that he doesn't like!) but still thinks Chefs de France's version is the best:goodvibes

Hope you have a lovely meal:wizard:

D loves the filet & mac & cheese, and I thought it was pretty good, too. I had the short ribs - best short ribs I've ever had! Truly amazing! I had the Savannah Rolls for the appetizerp; again, sublime.

And, as a thank-you for staying at AKL, we got an amuse bouche of carrot & ginger soup. If they ever have that on the menu, I would get that soup & bread as an entire meal! And I'm not even a soup person!

As far as I'm concerned, Jiko is the best restaurant on property, and one of the best, period.

I'm sure that most people are going to go with the mac n cheese, but I'm gonna say the Short Ribs. They are simply amazing.

Love the Ostrich appetizers it's fantastic, one of the best dishes of any of the Disney restaurants. It comes with a pomegranate gastrique and sweat potato puree, good stuff!

For the entrees I usually go with the short ribs DD and DH go have the filet with the mac and cheese, both are very good. They also use to have a Halibut that was good but I think it is off the menu now.

Ditto on the Ostrich appetizer ! We wish they could do it as an entree, it was that good. We also enyoyed the flatbreads, though we may have to try the sampler platter next time.

Must agree with some of the other comments: all the appetizers. I've enjoyed all the entrees (save the lamb/pork shank, can't remember) but the apps are so good; my next trip I plan to just have some a few apps as my dinner. And some nice SA wine of course. FWIW.

The beef short ribs were amazing!!! My hubby got the short ribs and I got the filet & mac & cheese. I liked mine, but his was much better.

I think the combination of flavors/spices used at Jiko is one of the best things about it. You get a mixture of flavors that most American palates have never tasted together; some you may love, some you may not, but it is never dull! We have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed in any of the food, or the service.

Jiko was our best meal of the trip.
