Growing up, we had
cocker spaniel - don't really remember her, as I was very little.
3 St. Bernards - not at the same time, though! These were wonderful pets. Like Nana, they watched over me and my sisters. Very protective of us.
Irish Setter - We rescued Rusty. He immediately became my dog. He just was perfect. We lived in the country and he could run and play to his heart's content, and then come in and stay at the front door. (And he really listened and stayed at the front door!) I still miss him.
Blue Heelers - after I moved east, and my beloved Rusty had died, my parents got 2 Blue Heeler puppies. They were ok - but then they lost one of them, and to make up for that they got 2 additional ones...too many dogs! I never really warmed up to this breed at all.
For my family, we have a Brittany. He is a good dog, but would never have made it as a field dog or show dog. That didn't matter to us, we just wanted a dog that would be loyal and loving. I just wish he didn't have as much hair!
My neighbors have a standard poodle, and I didn't think I would like that breed, but she is a very smart dog, and you have to love the no shedding factor!
My parents, now empty nesters, have a Shetland sheepdog, that they absolutely spoil! Funny how she not only goes in the living room, but all over furniture, in bed etc....my poor Rusty was stuck at the front door! And oh my does she bark! They love her, but my sisters and I miss the Saints, and Rusty.
