What's your favorite breed of dog?

The Komondor

I currently have 2

Those are so cool looking! But I would be afraid of the rquired grooming! :scared1:

Bouviers are nice, and Westies too
If you like poodles, the Laurien Berenson mysteries are nice (latest is Hounded to Death)

I like labs, boxers, and huskies
My daughter has finally begged enough for a dog that we're looking to get one this spring. We're hoping to find a boxer.

I wish we could have kept our St. Bernard mix. He was given to us, and by 5 months old, he was 85 pounds. He grew too large to keep in the home we had. We gave him to someone who owned a 100 acre farm. I never saw him again, but the people we gave him to said that he lived a great life and was a wonderful family dog.

Awww, that's great that he went to a farm! Ours was about 90-100 lbs at his heaviest.

The St. we have now is a really nice dog, but the hair is killing me (far worse than the mixed - this hair actually works its way into fabrics so doesn't come off easily) and she still goes after my cats a year later.

Cocker Spaniels are my favorite! I love their expression, and their big brown eyes, and floppy ears. They have lots of personality too. I've had three in my lifetime. Sugar, Heidi, and now Samantha.

Here's a picture of Samantha when she was a puppy.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are lovely. I haven't owned one, but have had friends with them. I like Danes, too, left natural.

In the past I've had:

Standard Poodle
Newfoundland
Dalmation
Mutt

And I currently have an American Mastiff. The poodle, I hated. The rest were great dogs.

Weimaraners. Ours will be 10 next month... she's an old lady now... it has gone by too fast.

I love pugs! They're great dogs for families with children, IME/IMO. Our vet is also one that sees more pugs than any other breed in his practice and he loves them all. He said in all the years he's cared for them he's never met a mean one.

We also have a yellow lab, which I love, but find the smaller size of the pug preferable. The other thing I like about pugs is they might be on the smaller size, but they don't have a small dog personality.

Over the years I've also had 2 dalmatians, a husky/malamute hybrid and a wheaten terrier mix. Oh, and this chow mix that showed up at our house one day. We named him Marvin, because he was just skin and bones when he arrived. (the Starvin Marvin episode on Southpark had just been on prior to his arrival). I know that chows have bad reputations, but this little guy was all sweet. He was the mellowest dog I've ever met. The only thing that stressed him out was DH's pager. We called it motorolaphobia. The sound of the pager freaked him out big time. I loved that dog so much.

I like German Shepherds and Collies and a combination of the two is even better. We had these growing up and they were great dogs.

I also like Greyhounds, Salukis and the rest of that type. I've never had one but I think that they're interesting dogs.

Goldens are nice too. They always seem so sweet and I love their smiles.

My dad was a beagle breeder. He had several field champs. I love dogs, grew up always around them! Beagle puppies are so cute but I lose interest once they are older. The beagles were never house pets and would never stay long so I never had a chance to get attached. We had a Saluki that was a house pet she was so sweet.

I own a geriatric Shetland sheep dog named Max (miniature lassie)
and a yellow lab, named Sophie. The yellow lab is my husbands dog though. She minds him better.

The sheltie is my baby though. Ya know the dog in Peter Pan? He is the nurse maid! LOL He actually tells on my youngest when he is up to no good and follows my son to bed then leaves once he is asleep. Max is a blue merle/sable mix. Shelties are the best!

My problem is I seem to love them all. These are my current dogs and love all three of these breeds.

I never ever thought I would say this - but Ill never own another dog BUT a Pit Bull.

Not the nasty news stories you read, but well bred, genuine Pit Bull's were the "Golden Retreivers" for the early 20th century. Referred to as "Nanny Dogs" theyre amazing with children, as well.

I love mine. And with all the slack these poor dogs get - Im a total advocate for them now. :thumbsup2

I have owned a whole bunch of dogs covering many breeds, but I have never owned either of my two favorite breeds.... Bernese Mountain Dogs or Neapolitan Mastiffs.
My parents own these guys, and I love them! If we were to get one, it would be a male since they tend to be the "lovers" in that breed. (Imagine getting a "hug" from a 110 lb dog. They like to lean up against your leg and wrap their near leg around yours.)
