What's for dinner? Was it "budget"?

We're sick so we didn't feel like doing much. . . made hot dogs w/ buns ($2.50), salad for me ($0.75), and fries for DH ($0.50). . . drinks added another $0.50 - so $4.25 for us both. . . not a typical meal and not super healthy, but not terrible either. . .

Kind of a suprisingly interesting dinner...

Pot Roast $6.00
Onion ?
3 small potatoes ?
put them in the crockpot with some garlic powder, a little worcestire (sp?) and a can of...don't know what made me do it...
Sloppy Joe mix.
Actually was VERY yummy!
served it with a package of Bird Eye Steam Fresh corn $.99

just didn't feel like doing the cream of mushroom thing tonite..looked in my pantry and the Sloppy Joe mix won! :laughing:

I had to post to this one tonight. We just cooked a turkey that I've had in the freezer since I got it FREE right around Thanksgiving. We ate it tonight, we'll have leftovers tomorrow, I have two bags of meat I put in the freezer for potpie, enchiladas, etc, and I'm boiling the carcus right now and will probably have two dinners worth of stock/meat to put in the freezer for soup.

How's that for budget?

Not really a budget meal for us I don't think but me and the kids ate McDonalds tonight because tonight is our "get home late" night because my DD has speech therapy and physical therapy. Didn't feel like cooking when we got home so I stopped at McDs and spent $9 on dinner for all of us. Not healthy really or budget like.... =(

You mean a can of something like Manwich sauce, and not the powdery mix, right?

Last night was grilled turkey and cheese sandwiches and fried potatoes ~ that was it, it was a crazy night and it was all I could manage.

Thin sliced turkey $2.69
Bread $0.39
Cheese $2.00
Potatoes $0.50
Maybe another $1.00 or so for condiments.

Total $6.58

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tonight is going to be meatballs, mashed potatoes and sweet corn.
Gr. beef $5.50
Breadcrumbs $0.50
Egg $0.17
Potatoes w/milk, butter, garlic $1.50
Gravy $0.25
Corn $0.39
Total $8.31
I think I'm also going to make the brownie mix in the pantry but that was only $1.00 on sale so still under $10. :)
Haven't posted last few days so I will do a condensed version..
Sat: Played bunko so I ate there. Paid 5.00 but got a meal and a double hummingbird feeder set, so I think I came out ahead on that deal! :rotfl:
I fixed DH grilled cheese and tomato soup and let DD have a happy meal (1st one in over a month:banana: ) That's like a record or something. My DH did take him and DD out to breakfast, but he paid for it through the business so I don't count that. DS at his Dad's this weekend. So a total of 5.00 for me I guess and 1.25 for DH and 4.00 for DD. So 10.25 and I have hummingbird feeders (which my DH threw away my feeder last year! I had it setting on the counter after superglueing it back together after it broke! He just threw it away:mad: ).
Sun: Thawed a bag of 5 chicken breast and boiled them off. Made a chicken / stuffing casserole out of 3 breasts. Didn't have a condensed cream of chicken, but did have a creamy chicken soup at hand, so I subbed it with 1/2 can of cream of mushroom. And some peas and bisquits. So 8.50 for the whole meal (give or take 50cents;) )
Mon: I did spend more on this meal than I intended. Meijer was doing their family size stouffers for 2/11.00 and I had a coupon too! So I had a coupon for breadsticks. Well, when I got home I realized that I had bought the party size not the family size and I didn't get it on sale, so it was 11.00 after the coupon. Oh well. DH had enough for lunch, and I have enough for 2 lunches. Meijers stouffer freezer had broke and they had all of them in the back, and the kid went and got me one when I asked him about it when I couldn't find them. And turtle brownies that were 50cents after coupons. So about 13.00 for the whole meal.
I used the 2 leftover breasts from Sat. night with a box of chicken helper alfredo and made the kids lunch. I had leftovers from Sat night. Lunch for kids cost 1.50 and had enough so DS could have it for supper too since he doesn't like lasagna.
I did save 46.00 in coupons at Meijer yesterday. That's not counting the BOGOF and the 10/10 sale and the regular price everthign would have been. I bought 63 items and paid 73.00. That's counting 2 pair of 3M insulate winter gloves off clearance for DS and DD, the expensive stouffer lasagna (still cheaper than homemade of the same size), and 3 boxes of girl necessities! I was very pleased.
Tues: Don't know yet. Gotta check out the freezer when I get home. Tonight is archery and gymnastics so it will be a run run run:eek: :yay: :eek: night for us.
Have a great tuesday y'all! Kat
Let's see:
Last night, we had soft chicken tacos (I used an Old El Paso taco kit that I purchased a while ago, on sale and with a coupon), and 2 extremely large boneless chicken breasts that I had also purchased at 1.79 lb and froze. We had shredded cheese, lettuce, and sour cream (all things I had in the fridge). I also made Chi-Chi's Sweet Corn Cake (I think it's like 1.79 for the package, and then a can of creamed corn, which was probably cheap (store brand) and 1/4 cup of butter). It was a yummy meal!! And I have leftovers!
Tonight, my oldest DS is going to Fuddrucker's with his choir director (who is treating everyone!!!) and the boys in the choir (church), and I'm bringing my youngest DS to Friendly's because it's a fundraiser for his school. BUT, we have a free kids meal coupon from the summer reading program at the library, so I'll only have to pay for my own meal. DH will eat those leftovers from last night!
Last night was Mexican Chicken in the crockpot. Everything was on sale when I bought it
Mix in the crockpot
Chicken breasts
Jar of salsa
Corn
Black beans
When the chicken is done it shreds very nicely. We put the mixture on a tortilla with sour cream and cheese.
Tonight is BLT sandwiches ! Simple and easy !
My DS12 would LOVE having dinner at your house tonight. BLT's are his absolute favorite, and he literally cheers when I make them! LOL (gotta wonder why I try so hard to make really nice meals when a BLT makes everyone happy!)
I don't know what I'm having for dinner tonight! Ugghhh.
I've changed plans a few days running. Night before last we had chicken noodle soup, and goldfish the kids had some applesauce afterwards. Last night we had chili and cheese toast.
No one feels like eating anything heavy lately. Sometimes we've had big lunches or later lunches and we've been running about. And when dinner time is rolling around we don't have that "dinner appetite".
Well, I have some broccoli I've intended to prepare for a few days. Lettuce and tomato I need to use. Maybe BLTs. Thanks Mssladybug. :) Maybe I'll prepare the broccoli (it's a lot) and have some tonight and some tomorrow night with a sauce or something to accompany that ham steak I've been wanting to fix.
I am not sure what we are having tonight either but more than likely cheeseburgers and ????
DH isn't feeling very good might give him soup and of course because he doesn't feel good I haven't been getting a lot of sleep so I' m not feeling very good either.
I don't think the girls would like it if I called your on your own (YO YO) again tonight. ;)
Tonight I am still doing the clean out the pantry challenge so we are having:
Chicken nuggets w/Shake'n'bake $3.00
Suddenly Salad $1.00
Green Beans .50
Applesauce 1.00
I really cant give you exact prices on the shake'n'bake or the Suddenly Salad. They were in the back of the cupboard and I am not sure when they were purchased. But still a nice easy dinner as DD15 has basketball til 6pm.
Steaks (4 of them, two for dinner tonight and two lunches for DH): $5 (great steaks from a butcher back home, for way cheap for the quality)
Potatoes: $2 (enough for the four servings)
drinks: $0.50
TOTAL: $7.50 (or $1.88 a serving)
Super cheap- super easy -super good.
Tossed a pack of chicken thighs (8for 2.49 sale) into crock pot
Poured on 1/2 bottle of store brand sasa (1.00) cooked low all day
Cooked 1/2 pack of plain rice .40 with 1/2 stick butter .20
Served with grandma's homemaid oatmeal cookies- priceless- (or free)
Just over 3.00 and enough left for 2 lunches and some extra rice to do something with.
Well I guess I am the first one today to plan dinner... Hey is there a cool party or deal I missed??
Since I guess I am cooking we are having:
Homemade sloppy joes: $3.50
Rolls $1.25
Corn $.50
Salad $1.00
Applesauce $.75
$7.00 family of 4 w/leftovers... (definetely will have extra rolls and I will make hot ham/cheese sandwiches tomorrow...)
