Sorry I haven't posted this weekend. Things are crazy! My mom came to stay with us on Friday. Also on Friday, Alan's mom and her new man wanted to take us out to dinner. All I can say is he looks EXACTLY like Alan's father. Sounds like him, too. Even more bizarre is that they both served in the 11th Airborne division at the end of WW2. The similarities are pretty icky!
Saturday, we noticed that our poodle (11 years old, 2 pounds) was not acting right. She had stopped barking, and eating, and was generally just acting off. We watched her, and decided that she might have had a stroke. We watched her through the night, feeding her by hand, but she just didn't have any interest in it.
This morning, we got her up, and she couldn't walk at all. She just lay on a pillow, with her head down. At about 11:30 this morning, she lifted her head up, looked at all of us, really sadly, then very slowly got herself to her feet, and walked to my daughter, Katie. Katie picked her up and cradled her in her arms. About 20 minutes later we realized that she wasn't breathing. She was gone. Katie was devastated! She has really loved that dog! Alan found a box for her, and we had a small funeral in the back yard. Alan planted a cherry tree at the site, so we can always remember her. It's been a really emotional day here, but I'm happy to say that the kids are doing ok. They are talking about all the good things they remember, and Katie is very happy that she was able to make Cozy's last moments full of peace and love.
I'm just glad it happened naturally. I was dreading having to take her to the vet tomorrow. Alan and I had decided that is was time to let her go. At least this way, it was the Lord's decision, and not mine!
Anyway, that's the news from here. I won't be around much for the next few weeks, but I'll try to pop on now and then.
