Wow, the calamari and melon margarita look amazing to me...I wish you were her making it for us right now. My DH would be in heaven if I ever made calamari at home!

Ann

Ann -- I am happy to hear your party went well. The calamari is not difficult. The key is making sure the oil is hot enough. As for the watermelon margarita, that was delicious. I only had one sip because I was having wine, but we've already agreed it's going to be the drink of the summer. I am sure Beck would post the recipes if you want. (I want them! ;) )

Lauren -- I am glad Andrew is getting better at baseball. Liam was supposed to have his first practice yesterday, but it was canceled due to the weather.

The weather is miserable again today, so we had spaghetti, meatballs, sausage and cheesy garlic bread. It was comforting and easy, which was welcome after yesterday's fry-a-thon. One of our fryers died, so we had to do everything in one little fryer and it took forever. Also, the clams that took me more than an hour to shuck didn't fry right. We won't be making those again.

the margarita is really easy. to get the juice, just chunk up a watermelon, and smash it with a stick blender until it is all juice.

watermelon margarita

Per drink:
2 ounces gold tequila (I used patron)
4 ounces watermelon juice
3/4 ounce couintreau
juice of 1/2 lime--nuke the lime for 30 secs in the micorwave before juicing--you'll get lots more juice that way.

shake all in a cocktail shaker with ice until very cold.

I finally finalized our meal for tonight we are having pork souvlaki and tzatziki and green beans.

We are having beautiful weather here it's around 70. Can you believe it seems like yesterday I was whining about the snow. Sorry I've been such a whiner lately winter is not my thing.

I'll be cooking inside tonight I never made it to the place to get more propane. I am to tired after doing all my errand and cleaning in one day, what was I thinking.:rolleyes1

Sorry I haven't posted this weekend. Things are crazy! My mom came to stay with us on Friday. Also on Friday, Alan's mom and her new man wanted to take us out to dinner. All I can say is he looks EXACTLY like Alan's father. Sounds like him, too. Even more bizarre is that they both served in the 11th Airborne division at the end of WW2. The similarities are pretty icky!

Saturday, we noticed that our poodle (11 years old, 2 pounds) was not acting right. She had stopped barking, and eating, and was generally just acting off. We watched her, and decided that she might have had a stroke. We watched her through the night, feeding her by hand, but she just didn't have any interest in it.

This morning, we got her up, and she couldn't walk at all. She just lay on a pillow, with her head down. At about 11:30 this morning, she lifted her head up, looked at all of us, really sadly, then very slowly got herself to her feet, and walked to my daughter, Katie. Katie picked her up and cradled her in her arms. About 20 minutes later we realized that she wasn't breathing. She was gone. Katie was devastated! She has really loved that dog! Alan found a box for her, and we had a small funeral in the back yard. Alan planted a cherry tree at the site, so we can always remember her. It's been a really emotional day here, but I'm happy to say that the kids are doing ok. They are talking about all the good things they remember, and Katie is very happy that she was able to make Cozy's last moments full of peace and love.

I'm just glad it happened naturally. I was dreading having to take her to the vet tomorrow. Alan and I had decided that is was time to let her go. At least this way, it was the Lord's decision, and not mine!

Anyway, that's the news from here. I won't be around much for the next few weeks, but I'll try to pop on now and then.

Awww I am so sorry. That is so very sad....poor baby. But at least your furbaby went to her resting place in the arms of those that loved her most. It's never easy to say Goodbye but at least when there is not a lot of suffering you can feel somewhat at peace. She wasn't that old for a small breed was she? Poor thing...:grouphug:

Glynis -- I am sorry about the loss of your dog. for you and your children.

Ann -- That wasn't the same recipe Beck posted for you. It was probably a riff on it though. I can't say exactly what she did because I was out getting Liam sneakers and cleats for baseball. I know she put in lots of herbs for my dad.

I am jealous! It isn't snowing here, but it's raining...for what seems like the 40th day in a row. Maybe we'll eventually have a spring here...when we do, I'm serving those watermelon margaritas! :thumbsup2

Thanks, Beck, for the recipe. Could you give me the calamari one too? Please? :flower3:

:sad1: your dog must have trusted Katie a lot. I am so sorry that your family lost their friend but as you said she went naturally and was not in pain. :grouphug:

Lauren- I cannot imagine witnessing an accident like Tom did. I am so sorry.

Ann- What a wonderful time you all had! I am so glad that your parents had a party that will add to their memories.

Dinner was good tonight. Kady got a 100% on her spelling test. She really struggles, her metabolism is sky high fast and concentrating is very difficult for her. The Dr cannot give her anything becasue the meds cause kids to lose weight and she is only 41 pounds. She has been going to a learning center. They are helping to to focus but don't ask me how. Anyway this is only the second 100% since school started and she was so proud. I had told her we would go to Red Robin to celebrate.

Thanks. She was a teacup poodle, and was, in fact, the runt of her litter. The vet told us she'd live maybe 3 years, but in January, she turned 11. So, she had a good life. She was my first baby! It turned out to be a good teaching moment for my kids, and I'm so happy she was with us when she died.

Oh Glynis, I am in tears. After what I went through with my furbaby I think I know how you feel. Cozy went very peacefully surrounded by the ones who loved her dearly. I am so very sorry.

PAGING GLYNIS>>>>>>>

I need a little bit of your Disneyland wisdom. My sister is thinking of taking a trip there in September but none of us knows anything about it. She is hoping her kids can join her but the two int he service have no idea what September will bring and her oldest is not sure she can take another week off from work. That me leave me ;) to keep her company.

Anyway, where do you stay when you go and once again for a geography challenged gal, which airport would you fly into? She has a timeshare she could book with but all she could get was a one bedroom in Anaheim and a suite in a nice resort in Escondito, but she said that was about 70 Mi south. I think that is too far unless they all intend to use the resort more than hit the park, and who knows if Kim could get enough time to go there.
Any info that you think I could use to scout out accommodations in or near DL?

We always fly into John Wayne. It's a lot smaller than LAX, and easier to navigate. It's closer to DL, too.

We always stay at the Park Vue Inn, or the Best Western Park Place Inn. Both are directly across the street from the main gate (literally a 5 minute walk away), and are actually closer than the DL hotel or any other resort property (other than the Grand Californian). We like the Park Vue Inn because it's well within budget, and clean. We are only there to sleep, so it suits our purposes. There are several other good hotels within walking distance as well.

If I were you, I'd check out the DL section of the DIS. Mary Jo has a really good sticky thread on accommodations that should really help you out. Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you!

I've been thinking about you all weekend long! We knew that this was coming for our Cozy, but it really came on fast. We feel very blessed to have had her as long as we did, and to have her with us when she went!

Good Morning,

My day was a little screwed up yesterday...While i was at A's game, Tom went to the store for some tractor supplies. On the way home, he saw a horrible accident in front of him. So he called 911 and stopped to see if he could help. All I'll say is there were 2 fatalities and 1 woman needed to be airlifted...:sad1: Needless to say, he was not himself all day.

It's my furbaby Riley's 1st birthday today!

Have a great day all!

I can imagine that would ruin a weekend - how sad for those families affected.

Happy birthday to your Riley! Any pics to share? :yay:

Hi All,

Well, the party was a huge surprise and success. Everything went smoothly and people seemed to love the food. My parents were extremely emotional and happy that we all did this.

I did not get to take any photos because I was to busy chasing Luke all night. But, we had a photographer and Ron took some photos.

We are all exhausted today nd I plan on napping when Luke does!!!!

WFD- simple, simple night. Hamburgers & chips!!!

Ann

YEAH!! I'm so glad it went so great - I can't wait to see pictures!!!

Tonight I made the orange beef and broccoli stir fry that someone posted on this thread, but I am a doofus and never mark who when I save them. It was tasty.

That was me! Glad you liked it!!

Nancy - I've got a file of Disneyland tips and tricks I've put together over the years. If you want it, let me know and I'll email it to you! I include a plan to tour both parks in 2 days. Lots of other good stuff, too. Let me know, ok? I love to help people discover Disneyland!

Love saw her through a longer journey thankfully...what a sweet baby she must have been. Sadly they don't go the whole way with us..:grouphug:

Our dog is 15 1/2. I pray that when the time comes she will go peacefully at home. :sad1:
