Glynis- Did you feel anything from the earthquake yesterday? Hope the storytelling weekend is fun!

We didn't feel the quake at our house, thank goodness. DH was sent to Wells, Nevada, where it was centered, and spent the day shooting the destruction for the news. He left his camera rolling all day long on one of the older buildings and caught a fairly significant aftershock as it ripped bricks off the building.

The storytelling conference was SPECTACULAR!!!

Change in dinner plans. Kyle has been eating junk food since Wednesday night so I quickly ran to the store and bought a roast. Going to have pot roast with potatoes and carrots!

Hey all. Just posting quick to let ya'll know that DH's grandmother passed yesterday afternoon. The funeral will probably be Thursday to accomodate all the out of town family. The kids and I are staying here.

No cooking for me last night and Dsis (who is staying with me this weekend) is picking up sushi and wine on her way home from work!!

As I posted earlier, the conference was wonderful!!! We had some wonderful sessions with professional storytellers David Novak and Donald Davis (I could listen to him tell for hours). We also had breakout sessions on developing stories and other topics. There were storytellers there from as far away as the Czech Republic! Very cool!!!

Dinner tonight will be Kathy's Saucy Beef (I think that's what it's called). People have raved about it, so I'm anxious to try it!

Lindsay- Sorry that the day did not go well. You are braver than me, I have entertained our lovebirds for Holidays but Buddy and I have not done the couples thing yet. Every time I start feeling guilty there is a little reminder and I am glad we are not jumping in.

Dinner tonight is easy, I am at my Aunts again so I will pick up Grinders from our favorite shop. Buddy called too late yesterday so we'll have them today. The girls will figure out their meal according to how many points they have left for the day.

I'm finally home, things went okay this afternoon. I'm happy with the outcome, but know many feel very alienated and I'm not sure how to fix that. This really just resolved one issue, there is another meeting next week to resolve another issue and the call to vote out the pastor hasn't been scheduled yet either. Where is that drama llama when you need them?

I have no idea what is for dinner... I am about to hit the grocery store. I wanted roast but I don't think I can cook it fast enough for tonight. We'll see!

No more traveling until the end of May, then it will be pretty much EVERY weekend throughout the summer. Johnny & I are going to pick one weekend each month to do, we just can't afford every weekend, especially since we're now planning a Disney trip.

I made a lasagna for supper tonight it is in the oven as I type and I will serve it with a salad and some homemade rolls......yummy winter comfort food....
we have had sunshine today, and maybe even tomorrow before more snow is on the way....there is already talk of 1 if not 2 snow days next week.....Poor Ross will be in school until the 4th of July...hopefully the snow is at least melted by then...... ....the banks in front of our homes are higher then the first floor windows....talk about trapped in the house!!

Oh no - I got a jury summons today. I believe someone on this thread said the best way not to get picked is not to make eye contact with the lawyers, right?

YES! That was me. The trick is to make eye contact and everything UNTIL you are actually empaneled. After you get a seat on the jury, don't make eye contact. It drives the lawyers crazy! (I should know, I am married to one!)

You and I have similar coping strategies. I did so much online shopping when Caili was sick, I am beginning to dread the "Your Order Has Shipped!" emails.

I have to go get something together for the kids' dinner, so if I missed something, I apologize.

Caili got fourth place yesterday...her worst placement to date, especially since there were only five girls in her flight. However, she skated really well (I didn't think she deserved 4th, but I am not a judge) and I was proud of her for that. She had just about everything against her at this competition: she missed two weeks of skating due to illness; she didn't get to practice her program before the competition; and she had to go first. Going first is terrible in skating.

Caili was fine though -- I did make sure she didn't go in with high expectations -- and her team won first place later in the day, so that was exciting.

I'm sure Beck will post pics -- if she hasn't already -- of our weekend meals. Today was Asian food.

I made Chinese food. TOO MUCH Chinese food. I swear, in another life I had 14 children! Dinner was good though, and I spoke to my brother for the first time since Super Bowl Sunday. I suppose I have sort of forgiven him for knocking over and wrecking my camera. If he would only apologize, but I guess I am asking too much.

Here in Utah we host the Mount Timpanogos Storytelling Festival every Labor Day weekend. It's been in existence for at least 10 years, and has become quite well known in story telling circles. Professional storytellers are invited to come and perform their stories in a mountain setting. that is strictly a telling setting. We've had tellers that do tall tales, folk tales, oral history, fantasy tales, you name it, we've had it.

Starting last year, the Festival began a Midwinter conference as a way for storytellers across the country to get together to talk about ways to hone the craft. While there is a lot of telling that goes on, most of it is workshops on how to better the craft. There are always 2 tellers invited as the keynote speakers, and then they, along with several local tellers run workshops. It's a lot of fun!

This year I attended workshops on interviewing tips to get family stories, how to produce a children's storytelling workshop, how to create your own bedtime stories (Pirates in Pajamas), story weaving (taking elements from folk tales and weaving them with personal tales to make a stronger story). This is something that I've done the last 2 years, and it's great! My daughter, Katie, loves storytelling. I think I told you guys last year that she was the school wide winner of her competition, and then moved on to district level. Don't know if I ever told you that she won on the district level, but lost on the state level. Had she won, she would have been invited to tell at the Mount Timpanogos Storytelling Festival as an "opener" for one of the professional tellers. She is already working on her story for this years competition next month.

I'm also attempting to begin a children's storytelling theater with the kids in my area. We have a lot of talent, and it goes untapped. Parents have approached me asking me to do it this summer, so I was able to get a lot of valuable information for that at this conference.

Sorry I forgot who had a gluten problem. I was at Trader Joe's today they had gluten free pancakes I thought they were really good. They have quite a number of gluten free products.

I haven't been there since the fall, I went crazy looking at everything The moving smilies are making me crazy.

And, you know how sometimes things go wrong in the kitchen? Well, I document those also. Here is a very spectacular failure from today's meal. The gooey mass you see are potstickers, that were meant to be simmered and then pan fried. As you can see, they fell apart on contact with water. To the far right, that thing that looks like wookie armor is actualy an exploded eggroll. Note the lone carrot, still clinging on for dear life.
