As a follow-up to what kind of business would you start. How about a list of businesses that you would like to see started. Maybe this would give the folks who want to start some ideas:

Since I work full-time and have a DH and DS,

Personal Assistant/Concierge type of service - Since I am not a millionaire, I can't afford to have my own personal assisant, but it would be great to "share" one with the neighborhood. Some who could - go to UPS and pick up the univeral tickets that they shipped with signature required, someone to come sit at my house and wait for the repairman. Some one to go to the store and buy they XYX item that I need by the next day.

Faux Painting/Decorating at reasoanble price - would love a crafty do-it yourself type to help me out.

Good Local Restaurant - we really don't have that friendly neighborhood bistro/trattatoria (sp) type of place and could use one.

O.K. so what businesses do you need in your area.

Doggie day care at a reasonable price with people who will love your pet almost as well as you do! It costs a small fortune sometimes to board my doggies when I go out of town.

I second the doggie daycare/boarding. We need one where you can pick up your pets 24 hrs a day. If I could pick up my pets after work, I'd like to drop them off about once a week to get some good exercise with other dogs. I just don't want to leave them overnight if I don't have to.

I'm also wary of boarding my pets anywhere overnight where no one is there to watch them. I'm not asking for cheap prices; I'd rather have people looking after them who know a little something about animals, which is almost never the case. I'd LOVE to have one of those places where you can watch your pets via the internet, but I'm not so sure I could afford that. As it is, my boarding costs are as much or more than my plane ticket costs.

Funny there were just two dog related posts. I start dog sitting this afternoon for a former boss who is taking his kids to Disneyland for the first time (though I'd rather be going WITH them)::yes::

I am babysitting my daughters dog during the week. She is a big weimeraner and eats alot. I also make my own dog food, people think I am nuts but I don't care. I have 2 other dogs so her dog has a great time here. She had taken her to dog day care in Ann Arbor and the lady charged $20 a day. I am doing it for $7 a day. I could do it for nothing but I think if I did she might take some advantage of me. She works 12 hours a day so she can't leave her alone that long. I think someone could make a good business out of it, just not me.

I want someone who will iron my DH's shirts after I have laundered them.

My first thought was dog care too. I'd love to leave my dog with someone who was doing it as a sideline and just took one dog at a time and let them be part of the family.

It seems like it be perfect for people like my parents who love dogs but don't want to have one of their own because they travel often. (Unfortunately they live in a different state or I wouldn't need the above business!)

a ben and jerrys store with a taco bell attached in Auckland, New Zealand. I'm pining for Phish food and don't even get me started on hot sauce

I've talked about it but don't know how lucrative. I wish there was a store for single people, people who live on their own. They would have things like 3/4 gallon milk. 1/2 is never enough, and I can't finish a gallon in time. Smaller boxes of cerel, it goes stale before I'm done. Things like this. Then maybe attach a fun laundromat onto it. Play some upbeat music or have artist perform. Kinda open mic thing. Lots of single people do their laundry on Sat. night cause they aren't going out. This sucks!!! Make it interesting. Hell have public speakers, seminars who cares, something besides a tv that noone will change the channel from Jerry Springer or Cheaters.

What else do you think this Single's Mart could have? I just might do it.

A place to go and learn the "lost arts":

Crocheting
Knitting
Making Bread
Pickling
Canning
Making jams/jellies
Pie making
Sewing
Quilting

Stuff like that. With so many of us raising our families away (geographically) from our parents/cousins/grandparents, etc. I feel like some "arts" are being lost.

ckr -- for a lot of those, look around your area for an embroidery guild. They should be able to help with some of those arts, or a quilting guild for the quilting. There may be a knitting or crochet guild, I'm not sure. But the options are out there (at least in some areas) you just have to know what to look for. :)

I wish they had child care services like the ones they have at Disney. DH & I would LOVE to be able to drop our two kids (5 & 9) off at a place where they could hang out with other kids, do arts & crafts, play video games, eat food like pizza, etc. I KNOW that we could get a babysitter, but it's not the same. Our kids are still talking about when they were at the Neverland Club in November - so much so that we are leaving them there again in April.

ScarlettO, you are right on with your suggestion. I would love a refrigerated case right by the door when I'm ready to leave work at the end of the day, full of homemade meals that I only had to pop into the oven and heat. If someone started a business like that in or near my office, I would be spending a lot of money there!

That "what's for dinner" question is REALLY old after 20 years of marriage!

a reasonably priced place to bring ready made meals in
The child care play type place for nights and weekends would be great
a totally low carb super store would be great
totally low carb restaurant
or at least more restaurants that have more choice than 2-3 options for dinner
wouldn't a restaurant with divided sections for kids and adults be great. pay for kids to have dinner/movie/activities supervised while adults dine alone or listen to a band or something

How about an expert childseat installer. I never can get those clips on tight enough!
