I have a friend who is extremely picky. She's very into Eco-Friendly (Just started), hates gift cards, hates toys or items that are pink or girly. Hate is a strong word but she will literally act like a fool over a gift card or the color pink. Any advice on what to get baby that mom will approve? Under $50-60 please. I was thinking that maybe earth friendly bath products would be the way to go. What's that buy me? Like 2 or 3 fancy bath products ? :p

cloth diapers.

try putting together a gift pack from the honest company. some green mountain diaper pre fold diapers and a nice cover? go in with another friend and get her an ergo carrier. a diaper bag off etsy.

Honestly? Nothing. I don't give gifts to people that are that unappreciative.

I'd give her a pink gift card. Seriously, people like that don't deserve gifts! Be grateful for what you get!!

If she's that picky, surely she has a registry?

What about a baby food maker and some small glass containers? She could make her own organic baby food and then have something non-bpa to store it in.

While my niece is not THAT picky, she doesn't like pink ruffly things (worked out great that she had a boy) and she is a green, save the earth type person. I was going to suggest the moby wrap. Be careful with cloth diapers. Apparently there are these reusable pants and there are special cloth inserts that go in them. They also sell disposable inserts for times when you don't want to pack a dirty diaper with you. I would talk to your friend and see what she can really use. My niece is on a very tight budget, so even though she is green, she doesn't pay out a fortune for her things.

Agree.

And, in my experience babies bring out the worst in these people (how could you give my child a Mickey Mouse doll! Corporate Greed - what sort of monster are you!)

Earth friendly for the picky is hard - the products I enjoy are not the products someone else does (Burt's Bees would not be appreciated in our house - don't like their products except for their lip shimmer - which isn't very baby). Cloth diapers - well, what if she's gone as far as organic cotton only? Or does the insert thing. I have a lot of crunchy granola friends, and each one defines their values very differently. One won't touch anything that Target would sell - sign of corporate sell out (so no Burt's Bees or Dr. Bronner or Tom's - but only small producer, preferably local.) I will shop at a co-op - but you won't find me going anywhere near a Whole Foods - I don't like their business practices and their CEO is a jerk.

HOT pink with purple edges and put it in a purple & pink GLITTERY holder!!!

ROFL!!!

You're right, though. People like that don't deserve the generosity of others. They won't appreciate anything you give them, regardless of how much thought you put into it.

This is a great idea but I somehow can picture the friend having a complaint about it. I wouldn't go out of my way and spend this much on her.

I know she has a problem with gift cards, but that's exactly what I would give her (if I absolutely HAD to give her something!). If she complains, offer to take it back.

Do you REALLY have to get this person a gift? Is it for a shower or something? If so, I would have to work that day or visit a sick relative or have some kind of family emergency come up.

I would find an eco-friendly card and enclose cash. Alternately, make a donation to an eco-friendly charity in her name. Done, and done.

It's really hard to buy something for someone that picky and feel good about it (on so many levels). I'm inclined to agree with giving a pink gift card!

But then I'd shake off that temptation and get books. It's never too early to start reading to kids. Someone suggested the Lorax. Great choice!

Also: my FAVORITE book to give a new baby: I Love You as Much by Laura Melmed (not to be confused with Guess How Much I Love You, which is very popular) I Love You as Much is a really sweet book with gorgeous art work and it's not as commonly found.

Good Night Moon, Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel, The Runaway Bunny, The Very Hungry Caterpillar all very good classic choices.

My go to baby gift is a nice basket filled with classic baby books. Goodnight Moon, Guess How Much I Love You, and Where the Wild Things are, for example. Throw in a comfy, not pink, blanket for snuggling.

That was my first thought. And then I took it a step further and thought of how the dollars could be used to benefit a child who will not enjoy the benefits of anything new, let alone eco-friendly, non-pink anything-but-a-gift-cards. So, I'd make a donation to a charity that helps disadvantaged kids and write a not to let the mom-to-be know that I hope that it is the first of many great things her child will do to help the less fortunate.
