What to do without a campfire?!

Ok, This is way ahead of time. I talked my husband into camping for 10 days at FW. He said he'd haul the pop up to DIsney if we could make it a 2 week trip. I have been working him for years to camp at Disney! Now the problem...

We love to sit at our camper by the fire and I am afraid he'll change his mind once I tell him we can't have our own fire.
Any comments, alternatives, or ideas are welcome.. Especially from those that also love to sit at the fire alone and have some drinks at night. Thank you!

You could play dumb and not mention it, lol !! Just kidding. We normally have campfires every night too and we will miss it. But I've heard the nightly group campfires are really nice, especially for the kids.

If there are no general fire bans, you are allowed to have a completely enclosed fire pit similar to this one:

Negative. As the previous posters stated, the fire pit must be completely enclosed. See the link above for an example.

A circle of rocks won't cut it, sorry.

Find an old 55 gal steel drum, cut off the bottom 12"... instant fire pit. My son's scout troop has several of these.

The campfire there is so amazing though!! You don't want to miss it and once you go once you will want to keep going back again and again, and then hit the pool which is open 24hrs on the way back.

I would think you would also need the top enclosure to meet the requirements of no open fire. Can't help but chuckle when I read your post..because coming from a New York City suburb...the very idea of searching for an "empty" 55 gal steel drum...Lord..I'd stay away from that, you never know what you might find in that drum..and it likely won't be empty! I think I'd go to Target and purchase an enclosed fire pit. A safer choice all around!

We too thought it was going to be a huge issue not being able to have our own fire at night. But after we were done walking the parks all day we were too tired to sit up most nights. But as the OP mentioned the campfire program is awesome. As for the enclosed pit, if you don't have huge amts of room just pick it up when you're in Fla. If you have kids they'll love the campfire-sing-a-long/movie. Bring your marshmallows, sticks and oh yes HOT Dogs! (You'll understand that if you read the post about roasting your Dogs!) I'd tell DH but give him the whole picture of options!

Thank you! I look forward to the group fire, but the fire ring option will be a good one to keep him convinced. We already have the "steel drum" with holes drilled in it as we enclose our cut off keg with it when doing a turkey roast the redneck way!! Hey if I tell him he can roast a turkey, we'll be good to go! Thanks again.. great ideas!

A steel drum won't work. That is not an "enclosed" fire pit, considering the whole top is open. It needs to be covered on all four sides or trust me, they will tell you to cover it up or put it out.

A few years ago we had a four sided fire pit, and it was REALLYYYYYYY cold that night, so we took the top off for a bit just to warm ourselves around the fire. The rangers came by a little later and (politely and nicely, we even offered them a beer, although we knew they couldn't have it, they got a good laugh) let us know we had to put the cover on.

Hello we were at FW from Dec 24 to Jan15th this year and we took our enclosed firepit hauled it all the way down from Michigan and never used it once. We could have but seemed like we were either doing something else or just went over to the singalong at the campfire or sat in the rockers up at the fort so if you don't take one you will be surprised you won't miss it as much as you think.

I think you will not miss the fire pit. FW is like not like being at a State Park or such. We always have a fire, and love it when we camp, any place but at FW. Still, for around $100 you can always run up the road to Walmart, Target, Home Depot, etc. and get a fully enclosed pit.

mix up some drinks for the two of you.
then go down to the lake.
