"What time does the 3 o'clock parade start" and other stupid questions.

:rotfl:

My mum once called a call centre and got someone on the other end who was a little clueless. My mum asked her questions and the lady was nice enough but then asked my mum what time it was. My mum gave her the time then said " oh well I guess thats right. I'm in Newfoundland and we are 3 hours and 35 minutes ahead of you" :faint:

Now Newfoundland IS at that 30 min mark but last I checked different areas didnt get extra minutes LOL

So what is 5:30 in St Johns Newfoundland is still 5:30 elsewhere in Newfoundland not 5:35 :headache:

ETA for anyone who is interested:

Newfoundland Standard time is 30 minutes ahead of Atlantic Standard Time (in effect in the Maritime provinces) and 1.5 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (in effect in New York and Toronto).

Newfoundland is located in a time zone unique in North America, half an hour later than Atlantic Time, one and a half hours later than Central Canada and four and a half hours later than the west coast of the country, the only place in Canada with a split in the set variations of one hour between time zones. Daylight Saving Time is observed from April to October after which the province returns to Newfoundland Standard Time.

Note: The Labrador portion of the province operates on Atlantic Standard Time (½ hour behind Newfoundland), except for the area on the coast from L'Anse au Clair to Cartwright which operates on Newfoundland Standard Time.

Many people wonder why Newfoundland has a time zone that is a half hour different rather than one hour. The system of Standard Time employs 24 meridians; each are theoretically the centres of 24 Standard Time zones. Each local governing body can choose in which Time Zone or part of a time zone it chooses to adopt. Newfoundland lies in the eastern half of its time zone and chooses to adopt its own time zone.

Newfoundland, (but not Labrador), lies squarely in the eastern half of its time zone, exactly three and a half hours from Greenwich. The Newfoundland government attempted to bring the province into conformity with the other Atlantic provinces in 1963, but withdrew in the face of stiff public opposition.

And I thought trying to remember if IN or AZ was on DST was a problem. Good grief!

oh yeah, its fun. I have a lot of friends in Newfoundland. Its an interesting place :)

We are hoping to go there in a couple of years. I would love to spend some time to explore the Rock. Fascinating history there.

This one was from last weekend. DH was painting the kitchen. A friend of ours came to visit. DH is standing in the kitchen, with paint roller in hand, and half of the kitchen painted. The friend says, "Are you painting the kitchen?"

In the spirit of the OP's parade question... When is the midnight buffet?

Our Tae Kwon Do school, where I am a student but also work the front desk 2 days a week, runs a New Year's Eve sleepover for the kids. I actually had a parent come up to me and ask: "What date is the New Year's Eve sleepover?"

:confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Not a question really, but I work for a doctor's office and you'd be AMAZED how many people call and say they want to reschedule their appointment - and not give their name - and then you have to PRY it out of them (they give you their first name, and then you have to ASK what their last name is!) :headache:

I also worked at a gas station just out of high school and a lot of people would just come in to buy other things - not just gas. But when people had gas to buy, they would approach the counter and look at you like you could read their minds - or were watching them the entire time they pumped their gas and knew HOW much they owed on WHICH pump. You actually have to ask them - Are you buying gas? Which pump? (I know it's a "GAS" station - but lots of people would just buy cigarettes or coffee, or pop...etc.)

Not a chance. :teeth:

#1 rule for all you folks when starting a new job: Never tick off the IT guy. :rolleyes1

Luckily my best friend works in IT! She gives me all the perks! LOL!

She got tired of getting up to let me into the IT dept to talk to her and hang out now and then so she just gave me access to the dept on my ID badge! LOL!

I have two - I also work in IT.

We had a lady call our Help Desk just after the anthrax scare and tell us that her computer had a virus. We asked her to go to her PC and let us remote control the computer and let us have a look but she said no - we needed to send someone onsite. So we did. Her computer was off. We asked her why it was powered down? She said, "I don't think I have any anti-virus and I'm not touching it because of the anthrax thing." No kidding! I hated to tell her that not only can you not email anthrax, it's also NOT a virus :rotfl:

The second one was right after an ice storm we had that took power out almost all over town and for several days. A woman called in absolutely frantic that her servers and phone system were down. She was fussing that she had to report this to us by using her cell phone. We then asked her if her lights were on, seeing that power was out all over town and she said, "...oh... ok ... I'll call back later."

Me: I would like a Big mac meal with a Coke to go.

Clerk: Ok what drink would you like with that?
