What money saving tips do you think are a bit extreme?

Allergies is different, then trying to "beat the system".

Most times I really don't think people are trying to "beat the system." Taking a vacay is expensive, especially for a family and maybe just getting to Disney was a huge hit on the budget. I see nothing wrong with bringing in your own drinks and snacks. I guess maybe the "extreme" part comes in when you take your picnic lunch into a restaurant without buying anything and use say, their soda machine to fill up your cups or load up on the toppings. If you purchase a meal, even if it's just one, I don't care how you divide it up. Many parents have mentioned how they do this for their kids. I do, too. I'm not paying $9 for a hot dog my dd3 will take 2 bites out of than declare she's "full." However, the kid still has to eat. I"ve gotten the burger meal at Pecos Bill's and cut a small part off for DD, given her a few of my fries and called it a day. I ate the rest. Don't see a problem with that. Food at Disney alone for my family last May was nearly $1000. Could have taken a whole other trip with what we spent on food!

The condiment bar is something that is to be used exclusively by paying customers! When people use it without paying, that is stealing.
Not sure why this is hard to grasp.

Stealing is a very simple concept to grasp - no problem there (unlike knowing what is and isn't your business I guess). I'm just trying to figure out how all these concerned DIS'ers can figure out who is stealing condiments and who isn't. Like I said previously, you folks must be spying on everyone in the restaurant to be able to pick out these nefarious condiment stealers.

Do you think there's an organized group of condiment stealers who take them and then resell them on the black market? Maybe there's a shady looking guy standing in the bushes next to Pecos Bills saying, "Psst - wanna buy a tomato slice?" or "I got some nice lettuce right here!" I really hope that someone looks in to this because it could really get out of hand fast and then we'd have people strung out on condiments wandering the parks looking for a hit of onion. :rotfl::rotfl:

:rotfl2: As long as people aren't asking me for a hit of onion off my food I'm good with people stealing pickles.

Suellen, you made my point perfectly. You're content to sit back and judge people and gossip with your family. If it bothers you so much you should make a point of pointing them out and causing a huge scene. If it was truly such a huge issue then WDW needs to deal with it. Given that this travesty of justice continues to happen with such regularity it must not be THAT much of a problem or concern to WDW (or to you either since you don't say anything to anyone who can do anything about it).

I don't make a habit of spying on everyone else in WDW to determine if they're "scamming" the system somehow. Why? BECAUSE IT'S NONE OF MY BUSINESS! I mean many of you MUST be spying on people to know 1)When they entered the QS restaurant 2)Did they or someone from their party order anything 3)Are they using/eating something that they didn't pay for. I mean seriously, are you folks are vacation or on a mission? :confused3

As for Chef Mickey's, I've never been there and don't intend to go but you're trying to compare a condiment bar to a full blown buffet. I've never eaten at a buffet in WDW but I'm pretty sure you can't just walk in off the street and hit the buffet without getting at least a question or two from a CM. The same can't be said for the condiment bars so your analogy is a bit too far fetched.

You are right it IS none of my business. I don't own the business ~ IF I did I would say something. We owned a Haagan Dazs/Strudel shop in Kennebunkport ~ well we had a nice big yard that we provided tables with umbrellas. There was a deli across the street that had no tables. Customers would go to the deli and come across and use our tables. I took great delight in waiting for them to spread out all their stuff and get ALL their sandwiches unwrapped before I would go tell them they couldn't sit there. (there were signs at the entrance AND on every table). It was MY business and therefore it was MY business to say something.

I also won't be the one complaining when there is no more condiment bar available.

As far as CM's ~ so if there is little chance of getting caught it isn't stealing if there is a bigger chance you may get caught THEN it is stealing. Treading a sketchy ethical line there don't you think?

They are both serve yourself food stations available for paying customers. Seems exactly the same to me.

By the way it would be quite easy to walk into Chef Mickeys and make yourself a plate with no one noticing. Finding a place to sit and hit may be harder.... but I bet you could watch for a family to head off to the buffet and cop a squat at their table as long as you eat your plate and get up and leave before they come back you would be good to go! :thumbsup2 Just make small plates!

I am more than happy to admit I've not SEEN anyone make a condiment salad. Not to say it hasn't happened while I was there... but I would very likely not notice anyway.

So if you see someone breaks into house next to yours, will you call police or it is not your business.

I know this isn't directed at me ~ but it is very unlikely I personally would notice something like this.

I would have to see someone go in the window and then start carrying stuff out to recognize it as stealing ~ I just don't pay that much attention to my neighbors house. And we are so close I can see them making dinner in their kitchen.

Now if I saw flames shooting out the window I would call the fire department.

It's not hard. I think that some people enjoy arguing.

As I said before, it is not our business to judge others. If you feel it is a fraud, send a letter to government, make them ask for reciet for every $1 people on food stamps spend, lets control everyone, does it make it constitutional. BTW, a little blue pill is not a life saver as well, yet covered by Madicare. I personally do not care how people pay for vacation or how they spend their money, not my business. As for tax payers money, I am glad that I pay for others because I know if I need it at some point I will get money as well.

This post has nothing to do with anything. What does a little blue pill have to do with anything? If a person gets food stamps, please explain to me why they should be allowed to spend my hard earned tax dollars on a Disney vacation instead of food? Also, if you agree to accept foodstamps yo uare agreeing to give control of a lot of your life to the government. Also, Medicare(which is what I assume you meant) is different from medicare. One is for the elderly and one is for the poor.

This kind of crazy spending is what has this country in its current mess. People earning 30k a year buying a 350k house made bad decisions and now those of use that can afford it are paying for it.

To bring this back on point AGAIN. Stealing is wrong. Other than that, follow the rules and bring it to the parks what you want. It is a simple equation of is the effort worth the savings.

If I SEE it happening then it's MY BUSINESS and I would call the police (gotta love how folks have to take everything to the extreme on the DIS). That's why I consider myself a do'er and not a talker. Obviously you're not grasping the point I'm trying to make about the difference in moaning and groaning about something anonymously on the DIS versus actually doing something about it. If someone taking something without paying for it (tomatoes, onions, whatever) and you see it happen and don't say anything about it then you're either just a talker or you think it's none of your business. If you have a lick of sense then I'm hoping you can judge when something IS your business and when it isn't (please insert whatever ridiculous meteor hitting the earth scenario you'd like - I'm sure someone will).

I'm sick of hearing people moan and groan about every minor thing that happens at WDW and how it, in some way, impacted their overall experience or will result in Disney raising prices. If you're really that fragile then perhaps staying at home is a better option. If you can't afford it after WDW raises prices - don't go - the free market will bring things back in line. Either way, I'll be there enjoying myself and not worrying about what everyone else is doing because IT'S NONE OF MY BUSINESS!!! :dance3:

It is actually Medicare (care for the elderly) and Medicaid (aid for the needy)
:thumbsup2

Just to be clear ~ Medicare is not free and does NOT cover prescription drugs.

Not that I think any of this has to do with stealing for a restaurant. :confused3

For what it is worth ~ if you want to carry a bun all day in the park... more power to you. Save that $.25 it's the stealing that I think is going too far.

Actually the one for people who cannot afford insurance is Madicaid, if you want to be exact. I am sorry if you did not get my point. The point was government can assist but cannot controll spending, simply against constitution. Sorry if you feel that you paying for someones mistake, lets say when people could afford mortgage they bought houses, when they lost jobs, they lost houses, very simple. Anyway, it is not appropriet topic for Disboard.

Oh come on man...I just need a quick hit of Vidalia and then I'll leave you alone. Heck, I'll even take some Spanish if that's all you've got! I'm gettin' the onion shakes!

You are kidding, right. You are the one who brought up breaking into house example as well as comparing tomatoes to stealing cars and so on, so who is the one taking perfectly normal thread to extremes? This is a discussion board, we are all talkers here, some of us doers as well but the purpose of this place is to share experiences. If you do not like it, do not read, very simple.

That has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

I has a lot to do with the conversation. My point was that I dont get to spend a lot of time with my kids and I think they deserve a family vacation once a year...however we make it happen. With my last vacation, its obvious that we can afford better things than we could years ago with a young family, new house, entry level jobs etc.. I would never judge anyone for bringing an extra bun, which was the Original Post. The Bun Bringer did not steal, they bought a burger. and OMG..may have taken an extra tomato and shred of lettuce. And now there is close to 200 posts about it with almost 6000 views. Unbelievable. Are people watching my 6'3", 200lb 16 year old son load his burgers sky high, probably taking more than his fair share? That is not for anyone else to judge.

Live and let live..in peace.

Perhaps you should do more reading and less typing (very simple) because I wasn't the one who brought up breaking in to houses (see post #170). I was responding to the ridiculous example which I believe you also used. The same with the stealing cars vs tomatoes scenario - I was responding to another ridiculous example. Toodles!

1975,

Obviously disney has a problem with it as they took it off the menu. So when people take things they didn't pay for it's a problem for everyone.

"my family deserves a family vacation once a year...however we make it happen"

Really? everyone deserves a vacation? it's a want not a need ...and a luxury one at that. That mentality is exactly what is wrong with the economy today.

There are condiment spies everywhere. Just by taking a few extra condiments you have single-handedly impacted the vacation experience of thousands of people - most of them right here on this very thread. :sad2: I hear it's easy to make the jump from tomatoes to cars.

Perhaps you should remember your own posts, #176, #182. People share experiences, do not like it, do not read it, do not make fun or blow out of proportions what they say, very simple.
