Conundrum! :thumbsup2
I got a bottle of this for my 40th B-day, complete with screw top. I am still trying to figure out if it was a joke gift. My wine snob friend and I drank it one eve, it was okay but............................
Was mine the same as you and a few other posters noted? I noticed it was included as special occassion - with a screw top? Or are there more than one type/winery out there? Just curious............

For whites, we're enjoying pinot gris from Willamette Valley, Oregon (Elk Cove is my favorite from the region) as well as New Zealand whites...thank you Kim Crawford for such beautiful wines!!! We also like the unoaked chardonnays that seem to be popping up everywhere now. I'd never realized how much the oak masks the taste of the grape.

For reds, thank you Jiko, we love South African reds...all of them. Such a unique finish and they're all just incredible for cooking. DH & I didn't get too much into reds before trying S. African reds, unless we were eating a beefy meal. We feel like little kids in a candy shop for the first time now that we've found red wines we love!

I have always hated the taste of wine it always seems so bitter and sour. I have no problem cooking with it just have never liked the flavor as a drink. But...................... when I dined at Le Cellier last summer (free dining of course) I told our waiter I really did not like wine when he offered it to me and he asked me why, told him my reasons and he said he would find something for me. He brought me a glass of Icewine and I fell in love, everyone who was with me wanted to try it and they all said the same thing that it was waaaay too sweet for them. I thought it just right. I live in Virginia and know we have some really nice wineries , and even though I am not a wine drinker i do attend the Wine festival they hold in Norfolk with friends. So does anyone know another wine I may like ?? The Icewine was 15$ just for the glass and when trying to find it online it is really expensive. So any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I posted Ice wine from Sokol Blosser and Medici (Both Local)
St. Supery has a Muscato that is WONDERFUL!
If you can't buy them in the store go online and order. I try to keep my wines under $30. For dessert wine that is a good price. You could also google search ice wine and see what comes up. I would bet a good majority are from Oregon (Willamette Valley).

No, that is the actual conundrum. Some wineries are moving towards screwtops (stevlin caps) and away from corks. The reason for this is that occasionally the cork can be contaminated with the chemical compound trichloroanisole (TCA), which imparts a horrible taste to the wine--think musty, old sweatsocks, cardboard, etc. It is very YUCK! It is estimated that up to 5% of all cork-finished wine is affected by this problem.

I've been the sad purchaser of many "corked" bottles, and am glad that the wine industry is working to find a solution. For people that age their wines, it is unknown how the lack of cork will affect the ageing process, but for those of us who don't hold on to wines for years and years, the stevlin caps are a good thing.

I'm a Reisling girl. I prefer sweeter wines and I was surprised that I didn't like Ice wine when I tried it at the F&W festival last year. I got a reisling I really liked at Biergarten last year but I don't know the name of it. The waitress recommended it and I really enjoyed it.

Not just at WDW but in "real" life as well. Having German parents we haven't branched out much but I would like to hear what California wines people love!!

*************************************************
Hey! We're from Washington State and have some wines that rival California!!

That being said, gotta say, Northstar Merlot (WallaWalla, Washington) is great-and not to forget Leonetti wines-but there is a 3 year waiting list to even get on the 'list' to purchase through them.

2 Buck Chuck!

LMAO!!!!!
Don't forget about 4 Buck Fred!!! We were just in Phoenix for Spring Training and got a chuckle out of this couple lugging back (on the plane) a case of
$2 Buck Chuck-they deserve it after all the trouble they went through. Imagine-a case of wine for $24!!!

Moderately priced wines:
Frog's Leap Winery Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc
2004 Kendall-Jackson Grand Reserve Chardonnay
Giovello Pinot Grigio (Blue bottle with a Dragonfly logo)

Cakebread Cellars! Yum O! But tough to get in FL for less than $90 a bottle.

Love Cakebread too!! Kendall Jackson and Rodney Strong are favorites with me. My dh said that Cakebread is a lot less expensive in California, here in TN $30-45 a bottle there it's $15. We're going in a few weeks so I'll get some at 1/2 the price! :) Also another 2nd for Yellowtail (Austrailian) tryed that for the first time when we were out to eat, inexpensive and good.

Oh my gosh, I used to drink this a lot when I lived in Los Angeles for undergrad (I went to USC). Some of my friends from SoCal told me about it, and I must admit, that for $2 a bottle, it was pretty tasty!! However, I only tried the Chardonnay. Oh, and the real name of this wine is Charles Shaw, if anyone was wondering! But I always knew it as "2 buck chuck." :teeth:

I am a red wine girl, but I do like Kendall Jackson Chardonnay, and I love Fairy Tale Cuvee...but on a day-to-day basis...two buck Chuck, the Shiraz or Merlot, or Turning Leaf Merlot, or the Delicato Shiraz. I'm not much for the Yellow Tail. I like the reds from Sterling Vineyards also, very good, but normally more than I am willing to pay.

I'm a bit to lazy to place a full background check into this entire thread... but no man should ever mention a white whine whilst mentioning his favorite fermented grape concoction. The presence of two testicles requires the answer to have somewhat of a burgandy tint.

That being said, I find that my most frequently imbibed bottle is an Estancia Cabernet or a Black Label Gabbiano Chianti. Fantastic stuff to be sure... And the women seem to enjoy it as well.

Pasty Irish... The PI.

Cakebread Chardonay is the best out there, and I've tried many hundreds. but I agree, it's too expensive for day-to-day. I like J Lohr Riverstone chardonay as an alternative, it's about $11/bottle. Clos Du Bois and Kendall Jackson are both good mass market chardonays.

For something a little different I really enjoy Conundrum, but it's getting difficult to find at any price.

Coppola's merlot is undrinkable, however his Diamond Series Black Label Claret is wonderful--smooth on the pallette with a berry finish.

Not Californian but of note:

For reds I like Rust en Vrede merlot, which is an African wine. I also enjoy Los Vascos cabernet sauvignon, which is Chilean and an amazing value. It's a $12 bottle of wine that tastes like a $80 bottle of wine.

My favorites are the dry champagnes, which vary by vintage year. 2002 Dom Perignon was great, while 2003 was worth the $35 I was able to pick a couple bottles up at during a going out of business sale, and not much more. Perrier Jouet is another that I like, as well as Vueve Cliquoet. We opened a bottle of Mumm's last week, and it was a good value for the price paid, although a bit sweet.

There are so many options it would be nearly impossible to pick just one. I really enjoy pretty much any wine that comes from Iron Horse, but especially their sparkling wines.

I love Zins, especially Ravenswood. They are usually under $20 for the less expensive varieties.

Wow I am amzed by how many like "Yellow Tail". I thought the Cal disers would be jumping in here and all the Foodies that post regularly.

I really thought I was being had by the Conundrum wine but it must really exsist?? I'l have to look!!

KJ Chardonney is what we drink most. Besides that I love Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio and the Sonoma-Cuter chardonney's especially the Les Pierres.

I like the Fairy Tale Cuvee too!

I'm not all that fond of anything "Yellowtail". It's a bit to mass produced tasting for my tastes.

Conundrum is absolutely an actual wine, and an extremely good one at that. It's generally not something that a casual wine drinker would stumble upon, it's not available at restaurants that don't have a pretty extensive wine list. I think the only place at WDW that serves it is the CG as an example.
