what is your favorite wine??

I prefer red wines, such as a Bolla Valpolicella (Italian). My cheap, everyday wine has to be Charles Shaw Cabernet Sauvignon (California) from Trader Joe's. And in the summer, I love sitting outside with Sutter Home Pinot Grigio. I'm definitely the bargain wine shopper.

As for WDW, I would recommend trying some of the South African wines at the Animal Kindgom Lodge. I had such a lovely experience at a winery in the Stellenbosch region there - but it's not somewhere you go every day! Thank goodness WDW is closer!

It depends what we are eating! For everyday whites, we tend to buy sancerres. Everyday reds we tend towards zinfandels, especially Ridge zins. We also drink a lot of chianti and pinot noir.

For special to us wines, I really like Alban Vineyards Grenache and their viognier also. Duckhorn merlot is good, and for dessert wine inniskillin ice wine.

For a white sip, I like Groth sauvignon blanc or Trimbach pinot gris...or Conundrum for special occasions.

I usually try to make meals that go with red wine (yes, I admit, I sometimes pair my meals with my wine instead of the other way around). In the winter I drink a lot of chianti, Villa Antinori is good and so is Rocca Delle Macie, and zinfandel, Fife is my favorite. In the summer, I like pinot noir (David Bruce, Cambria and Wild Horse are all good) and Cotes du Rhone (Guigal is usually good, and inexpensive).

We loved the Eiswein (or Ice Wine) they used to let you purchase by the glass in Germany. Unfortunately, they no longer offer it. But we have been lucky enough to find Eiswein locally -- but only have it on special occasions -- as it is pretty expensive for the tiny bottle you get. princess:

My favorite is Evolution from the Sokol Blosser Winery. Delicious!! I was thrilled to see they serve it at Artist Point. Mmmmmmm.....

So many...where to begin???

We are partial to Lewis Cellars, cabernet

Discovered Ice Wine (Inniskillin) at WDW and that sounds good too!

I like sweet wines (LOVE ICE WINE!!). So, can you make any suggestions for sweet wines?
Most German wines have some sweetness to them, either low residual sugar in a riesling or a sugar bomb like riesling kabinett, spatlese, or auslese.

Personally, the French philosopher who said "All you need to know about wine can be summed up in one word--red" pretty much sums me up. But, for specifics. . .
At WDW
Several places have good wine lists, and Artist Point is no exception. They're unique in that they feature mostly Northwest wines. Pairing their cedar plank salmon with an Oregon pinot noir or their buffalo filet with a syrah? Sublime.

Outside of WDW
There are obviously tens of thousands of wines from which to choose. For value, try an Argentinian malbec from the Mendoza region or a carmenere from Chile. You can find excellent wines from both countries for an inexpensive cost. Naturally, CA has some great cabs. Franciscan (Napa Valley) makes very good cabs for half the price that many other cult wineries do. Ahh, but I do have a cult winery to mention--Far Niente. Their vines mostly reside in the Rutherford part of Napa Valley and their reds are seductive and full-bodied. Luscious. Of course, we shouldn't forget our bon amis in France. Some of their good bordeaux blends can still be had for under $20--maybe not an every day wine, but not a bank breaker either. Try Calvet Reserve Cabernet Franc/Merlot--smooth, silky, and has good depth.

As many have said, it really is all a matter of particular tastes, especially given what you are eating or the time of year. Frankly, however, if you love a particular wine, then it's good anytime, anyplace, with any food. :thumbsup2

Not just at WDW but in "real" life as well. Having German parents we haven't branched out much but I would like to hear what California wines people love!!

Live in Portland, OR and we go tasting around here a couple of times a year. Just got back from Napa/Sonoma a month ago. We have traveled to California wine country several times. So, I have to ask what type of wines do you like red, white, sweet, dry, etc. etc. I can give you a few names if I have more details.

Our favorite WDW restaurant is Artist Point. Lots of local wineries! :thumbsup2 Their wine flights are a great deal IMO.

I like a local wine, Lake Niagara. But it's not just from any winery, there is one that I like and the rest I don't like. I can't remember what winery it is I just know what the bottle looks like. And I know it's not Johnson Estate.

Sokal Blosser and Medici make a GREAT ice wine! Under $30 per bottle (good for an ice wine). Most ice wines are from Oregon. California does not have cold enough weather for ice wines. Both of the wineries are from Willamette Valley and are a Riesling.

2 Buck Chuck!

Hint for inexpensive wines (especially red). If you don't like the tannines in the red try to decantor the wine for 3-4 hours before serving. Makes a BIG difference. Takes that Bitter, tannine taste away. Pottery Barn has a nice decantor for $29.

I have always hated the taste of wine it always seems so bitter and sour. I have no problem cooking with it just have never liked the flavor as a drink. But...................... when I dined at Le Cellier last summer (free dining of course) I told our waiter I really did not like wine when he offered it to me and he asked me why, told him my reasons and he said he would find something for me. He brought me a glass of Icewine and I fell in love, everyone who was with me wanted to try it and they all said the same thing that it was waaaay too sweet for them. I thought it just right. I live in Virginia and know we have some really nice wineries , and even though I am not a wine drinker i do attend the Wine festival they hold in Norfolk with friends. So does anyone know another wine I may like ?? The Icewine was 15$ just for the glass and when trying to find it online it is really expensive. So any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Try a late harvest Riesling from Berringer. It's about $13 for a small bottle. It's really sweet though.
Try eating a piece of chocolate.
Then have a sip of this.
Then eat two crackers.
Then have a sip of this.
You'll be amazed at the difference.

It's a desert wine.
Also really, any late harvest witll do. Muscat, Riesling, Semillon, I've even seen a late harvest Merlot out there.

Also another fun thing to do is sip this, then sip some Welch's grape. It makes even the grape juice taste tart and bitter. It's that sweet.

If you're just wanting one that's medium sweet or off dry, try a Gewurtztraminner.
Fetzer makes one at about $8 a bottle.

I love a good Riesling or Pinot Grigio.

Here in Texas, they have Messina Hof winery, which makes some really fabulous wines. I end up buying a lot of my wine from them.

I know I am going to butcher this, but hopefullY you will get the Gist..
Gwurstemeiner - I really like the Nevada City Winery

Also, Beringer makes a Sparkling White Zinfandel that is YUMMY! Sweet, light and bubbly
