What is the most overrated Restaurant at Disney

I continue to be puzzled as to why Le Cellier is so crazy popular! It is a perfectly fine meal, but I have had so much better and more interesting food elsewhere in Epcot. The frenzy to get an ADR...I know people are in love with the cheese soup and it is good...but...that said, I love the Canada film and Canada itself (we visit once a year!)...

Another vote for Chef Mickey's. The food is disgusting and the character interaction was just okay. We had much better character interaction at Cape May breakfast, 'Ohana breakfast, Tusker House.

Also Crystal Palace. We found the only meal that was really good there was breakfast. When we went for dinner the food was terrible, we were seated over an hour after our ADR time and we waited between 90 mins - 2 hrs to see all of the characters.

Biergarten - I really hate eating at a table with strangers :crazy2: and the food isn't great. The entertainment is nice but it gets old fast. There is just too much commotion in there for my liking

Crystal Palace - The food was not great at all and I found the buffet to be messy. I guess I'm really just not a fan of buffets in general

On the other hand I do really like Le Cellier and I wish more people would think it was overrated and not worth going to so I could get a reservation ;)

After reading the posts, I'm tempted to add the other places we think are overrated, but I'll play by the rules & stick to my most disappointing meal. ;) Besides, my list may get long. :p

LOVE this !

Would love to see an Addendum to the thread.

"___Blank____" was overrated BUT... "____Blank___" was UNDERRATED....

IMHO... Le Cellier is a FAVORITE... Yak and Yeti is a FAVORITE... Teppan EDO is a FAVORITE..... CRT is a FAVORITE !

Remember folks... you are eating THEME PARK FOOD.... So why are you comparing to Ruth Chris? OKAY albeit I do NOT consider Disney to be a Theme park per sey.

But really? Where else do you go to enjoy TSMM Type entertainment followed by HBD dining? Soarin' entertainment followed by Le Cellier dining?
Space Mountain ... followed by CRT Dining?

I'm Probably Pollyana Positive to a Fault.... but I really truly do not have a "Overrated" comment because I really did LOVE LOVE Le Cellier along with CRT, Teppan Edo, etc....

So if you are going to be "negative" about an "overrated" restaurant... Let's SEE if you can be "positive" too....

Huge task at hand.... (HUGS)

No offense, but I just don't get this "theme park food" excuse some people love to use. WDW isn't serving nothing but hamburgers & hotdogs. If you aspire to do better, you should. They once did. Are we also willing to say, the attractions are just "theme park rides?" I see no difference.

Universal has a Palm Restaurant, which compares favorably with Ruth Chris. They also have an Emeril's that's as good as any other Emeril's we've eaten at. The other Emeril's hasn't thrilled us, but many people love it. On a whole, we find the food at most UO restaurants worth the price. (The many Cafe's are the exception.) Swan & Dolphin also have some excellent restaurants that we feel are worth the money. These are all "theme park restaurants". The food at most WDW restaurants should be more in line with the price. We don't expect to pay the same we would in a small town or even most big cities, but the signature restaurant prices should buy a consistently excellent meal. I don't think we should excuse away the food decline in recent years. If anything, they should be striving to produce better quality food. Most of us are a captive audience at WDW. This is not true for Busch Gardens or Six Flags.

By the way, I'm no Polyana Positive but I'm not a Negative Nelly either, my experiences and opinions just happen to differ from yours!

Interesting how a question is posed, opinions are asked but many times the answers aren't well received! :rotfl:

From a food standpoint, my vote goes to California Grill - hopefully the refurbishment will change that.

:thumbsup2I so agree! Although I'll admit that part of my disappointment is probably because I remember having the Sunday brunch there, before the California Grill days and I really missed that.

Totally agree! Neither myself or DH was impressed with the food there.

we like Le Cel, but have always wondered what the "big draw" was - it's steak, but you're seatedthisclose to other tables and it's quite noisy

our next trip we're skipping it - will nosh at the F&W booths instead!

I can't jump on the Ohana and Le Cellier is overrated bandwagon. We dined at Ohana for the first time last week after never being able to get reservations and we had a really wonderful meal!! Food was cooked perfectly, service was excellent. It has actually become DH favorite Disney restaurant. We ate at Le Cellier for the 2nd time last week, this time for dinner, and had yet another spectacular meal! We actually love the ambiance there and find the servers to be super helpful and friendly. We actually got souvenir menus with our anniversary date on it! And, all of the kitchen staff signed a birthday card for me. Little touches that made our experience great!

I, however, cannot for the life of me figure out why Chef Mickey's is so darn popular. I get that the characters are there, but IMHO, it's probably one of the worst interactions on property. They are so rushed, and people have no issues leaving their table to rush up to the characters when the characters are trying to visit at another table. The food is not good at all. We ate there for the 2nd (and last time). My DD's insisted on eating there again, but even they are DONE with that place. Oh, and it was super awesome how my silverware was wrapped into a napkin that somehow contained a partially eaten brownie...:crazy2:

Wow, is all I have to say about that place.

Coral Reef is on our list, too. Once upon a time, this was my all around favorite restaurant on property. That was back when it was a quiet, somewhat elegant restaurant with good food and good service. Now, it's an awful chaotic experience with a boring menu and pretty awful service. I think, for the most part, those who enjoy it now have no idea what it used to be.
I agree. You want to eat seafood at a seafood restaurant

Whispering Canyon Cafe, for us. The way people rave about the skillet, we expected something delicious. Blech! Maybe we hit it on a bad night, but the antics weren't that funny, either. Just us? Maybe we're weird. Wait, no, we ARE weird!
Last time we ate there, hubby found somethng grisley & hairy in his skillet. Since we were on the dining plan & it was an all you could eat item, they couldn't do anything but offer another plate!
:crazy2:

If you ask me it's Coral Reef. Mediocre food. Terrible service. The loudest restaurant I've ever been in.

Cape May didn't impress us either. and The Wave. :confused3

Yak and Yeti - service was inattentive, food was very overpriced for the quality( or lack there of) that you get, to me it was like eating at an Asian Applebees for 2.5xs the price

I also vote for LeCellier. Atmosphere is damp, dark and crowded. Steak was just ok and we've gotten better at Yatchman and even Flying Fish.

Although the cheddar cheese soup and pretzel bread are great, it's not worth it for us to eat a meal there.

OMG!!!! Grisly and hairy!!!! :crazy2: that description just made me dry heave. Thank god we ate there last week before I read this one, lol!! We actually had an excellent meal at WCC.

I know many will disagree but Le Cellier IMHO is the most over rated restaurant. It's impossible to get ADRs for a lot of the time and it requires 2ddp credits for dinner and next year will be 2 for lunch also. I like steak as much as the next guy but it's just not worth it to me.

popcorn::

I won't disagree! We were so happy when we scored a dinner ADR there but were far from happy by the time we left. The food was "okay". The service was "okay". The atmosphere was not even "okay". I could not understand why folks were clamoring to get in there. :confused3

Chef Mickey's is horrendous. But I can't say it's overrated, because I don't see many people actually rating the food well. You go solely for the character.

The food is decent buffet food. That's it. Love the characters but I prefer anywhere else for a character meal. We used to always kick off our trip by having dinner there on our first night, it was so Disney. :) I have to admit that I am not unhappy that we can go anywhere else now. My DGD asked to eat there on our upcoming trip so I booked it for breakfast. It was to be an OOP but she has never asked for any meal so DD and I agreed to make sure it was on our list. Turns out she was just suggesting it. Bingo! No CM for us!

When Le'Cellier was a 1TS restaurant I called it average and overrated. Now that it is a signature restaurant for dinner and soon to be for lunch, a huge number of former LC fans have now jumped off the wagon and have joined me. :)

LC used to be 2 TS credits and then dropped down to one. I would have been even more disappointed it we wasted 2 credits there

So if you are going to be "negative" about an "overrated" restaurant... Let's SEE if you can be "positive" too....

If a theme park is selling burgers and dogs I expect to eat burgers and dogs. If a theme park is selling dining experiences and charging an arm and a leg for those experiences I don't want to hear that I should not expect the food to be what I am paying for. I am not looking for Ruth Chris but I expect to get what I am paying for. I know I will pay a premium to eat in a theme park but I expect it to be good.

I can be positive. I like most of the restaurants that my family has gone to. I simply cannot understand why Le Cellier and 'Ohana are so darn popular. They are okay but no way are they what they are hyped up to be.

'Ohana. Ate there once and it was simply awful. The food ws not good and they could not even provide silverware. Imagine eating salad with your hands and paying good money to do so? When we asked AGAIN for silverware we were told they ran out. After a very long time they brought some plastic forks. We visit several times a year and we never went back.

I had to laugh at your post because it reminded me of the Dixie Stampede dinner show in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. As part of its gimmick, no utensils are provided. The server holds up his hands and says, "This is your fork, and this is your spoon!" I was not amused, although my family liked my horrified reaction. :rotfl2:
