We will be allowed to carryon cd players and cameras or no? I know you cant bring nail files and clippers and pocket knives etc in carryon but everyone has scissors and such on their packing lists is it okay to check something like a leatherman (those multi purpose tools) ? Or will they confiscate those out of checked stuff? I'd hate to bring it and lose it since its a 50$ tool.

poohraedopey,
Your best bet is to go to your airlines site and check what is permitted on their flights.
They all have the same basic rules, and some have stepped it up a bit.
If any questions remain after that, call them.

I agree with Gail - the best thing to do is check your airline's web site (or call them).

FWIW, nail clippers ARE allowed in carry on luggage. At least, NWA's web site says they are. As Gail says, I'm sure the "basic" rules are the same. Enjoy your trip!

We will fly SW so I will check the site just to be sure thats what I thought the general rule was now but wanted to confirm before we leave! Thanks!

The only thing I've noticed that is different since 9/11 is that sometimes we are asked to turn on electronic devices when going through security (I heard they used to do it before, too, but never saw them actually do it till now). Although, I discovered a strange rule on our last trip that the airline didn't warn me about. I had asked if it was okay to bring on bottled alcoholic beverages and they said yes, as long as they are sealed. We bring rum coolers are gifts for our friends on the Disney ships. On our trip last weekend, security was worried because SO MANY bottles showed up in my carry-on gift bag, and they thought there were all alcohol! As they discovered on closer inspect, I only had two four-packs of coolers, and the rest were lotions and body splashes from Bath & Body Works. The security person told me there is a limit, although she didn't say what it was (apparently I was under it). I guess they don't want anyone getting drunk and disorderly on the plane! That was American...I don't know if other airlines are different.

Nail clippers without the little file are allowed at least that's what is was on U.S. air 2 weeks ago when my Mother fly. She said they just broke the nailfile part off and gave the clippers back.;)

Just fyi: a friend just had her eyeglass repair kit confiscated at MCO. And the elderly aunt of another friend had a family heirloom flask confiscated because she got flustered and refused to take a drink from it. I think there's a nice flask on some security agent's mantel right now.

As for what is "ok" to bring, I went by my airport's website, not the airline, since it is still the airport running the security check. They all say about the same thing, though there is a great debate about corkscrews. ;)

Just a hint to save yourself a hassle. Do not wear shoes with metal around the shoelace hole aka Docksiders. My husband kept going off they wanded him.friscked him & finaly made him take the shoes off & put them in the xray machine. My kids were getting upset. I do not think any glass bottles should be allowed in a carry on. All you need to do is break the bottle & you have a knife.

Last June my Dh and DS flew back from West Palm Beach after a week of playing baseball and DS had bought a pair of those shoes with the skates in the soles, well... needless to say he wore them on the trip home and kept setting the alarm off. Finally he remembered having them on after he had just about removed everything!! I don't think he will wear them this year.:p
