What is Mission Space?

It’s the only ride I know of with barf bags in front of you. :-). No problem for our family, but the grandparents had issues with it. Agree that claustrophobic people should avoid. The screens are lowered very close to you because the restraints and g forces would make it impossible to reach otherwise.

it is a very cool ride, in my opinion. The kids (and me) love having a role to play with the interaction of pressing buttons and moving joysticks etc.

Completely convinced. One ride is not worth the possibility of feeling sick and ruining the rest of the day (and we have only 1 day at Epcot). If the provide barf bags as being pro-active, that pretty much says it all.

The barf bags are really a throwback to the original ride which was much more intense. I doubt they get used much at all with the current version.

Not sure what you mean by this? The green side is tame, but I believe I recall it even having barf bags. The orange side seems just as intense as ever.

Yep. There was no orange and green side originally, all four machines were orange if you like, they were all the spinning, intense versions. Can't remember if they had sick bags at the very beginning or if those were added "due to guest demand" lol! But all four machines would have had them. The green side is obivously less intense than before, but the orange side is as it always has been. The green side probably still has the bags, as it still moves a bit and can be disorientating...not much point really in removing them.

The two sides used to be the same experience with just a difference in intensity. Now, the story is completely different too. The orange, intense side takes you to another planet and you have a mission to complete. The green, easy side just has you orbiting earth and you do feel a bit like you're floating around.
Wow, I missed this change. Maybe I could handle the green side. I was okay with the G-forces, but not the motion simulation of dodging the surprise problem. Since there is a whole new (to me) storyline for green, is the motion simulation more gentle? shorter? I am okay on but not unaffected by FoP, not at all okay on ST, and love Alien Swirling Saucers.
TIA for any information/experiences for green side.

I love this ride, but my wife hates it. As they direct, if you look directly ahead and don't look side to side, you should be good. For those with issues with motion sickness, do not do the orange side!

Well, it's the same as the orange side except that it doesn't spin, so you don't get the high G forces and you don't get the spinning/dizzy sensation. It's exactly the same length. The capsule will still rock from side to side and tilt backwards and forwards (that's how it simulates the positive and negative G), but I wouldn't call this motion violent or jerky, nowhere near Star Tours level. I took a "selfie video" once on the orange side and honestly you couldn't tell there was any movement at all, it's less movement than you'd experience in a car. I'm not really prone to motion sickness ands this rocking doesn't affect me at all, whereas sometimes the spinning side feels very very strange. The motion on Star Tours does affect but, but not from a sickness point of view, more from the fact that it's just violent and uncomfortable and I'm wary of getting whiplash!

So strange.. but I have to admit the last 3 trips to WDW we seem to forget this ride exists. I mean we run to TT all the time and its right there! I have been on it and honestly dont recall if I did orange or green?

as I wrote above I forgot about being on this ride. Can anyone confirm if the G force feeling is more/longer than the one on Everest? I really feel it there on dark section going backwards.

As somebody mentioned if you have health issues ( eye pressure) do the easy version.

You might like to have a read of http://www.gcdataconcepts.com/wdwpart1.html for a report of G forces on WDW rides! In summary, the most intense bit of Mission Space is 2g to 2.4g for 10 seconds. The backwards section of Expedition Everest is 2.7g to 3g, although it doesn't say for how long, but I guess it's probably about 10 seconds too. It is likely to be varying throughout that section though, it's not constant as Mission Space will be, so personal perception and tolerances will be different. The corner after the large drop is 3.2g. Personally, though, I feel the upwards helix shortly afterward is more powerful, but maybe that's because it's much longer.

I'm not convinced by the comment about eye pressure! But as always, with any thrill rides, if you do have any health issues then you need to act on your own discretion. I don't have any issues in that regard, but I do remember a terrible experience on a flight once when I had a cold (so my sinuses were all bunged up) and the last 20 minutes of descent were complete agoiny. My eyes, veins and ear canals felt like they were going to explode, and I had ear trouble for a few days afterwards. I'm sure Mission Space doesn't reach those levels of body stress! Although the orange side of Mission Space does exert forces on the body that the green side doesn't.

Then I guess it's still a NO for me. My problem isn't the actual motion - it's how the motion does and does not match the events on the screen. I'm absolutely fine on MS orange with my eyes closed the entire time. I can recover from MS orange if I close my eyes and stay that way when we go to "hypersleep." They would have to shut down the ride for cleanup if I opened my eyes on MS orange and it sounds like I could have the same problem on MS green - I was really hoping that the other story line would work better for me :(

Lol I thought it was closed.

I was reaching for the puke bag when the ride stopped. If it had lasted only 15 seconds longer....

It was my DH, DS and I on that trip and we were all done with rides for several hours afterwards. Never again.

I kind of want to ride it again, but I remember being on the ride and talking myself through the panic and telling myself that in a few more seconds it was going to end and I would live...LOL.
This is me on rock n' roller coaster. Green Mission Space is totally fine for me but I have not yet the courage to go on Orange. I think the first time we went on Mission Space (green) there was a couple piles of vomit outside the Orange exit. That was enough of a deterrent for myself. My partner LOVES the Orange side though and has no issues with it.

Both my 11 year old and myself are totally fine on Green. I think I was momentarily motion sick the first time I rode it but not so motion sick that it ruined the ride. I've been fine on subsequent times.
