What is Mission Space?

I did orange back when there was only orange. During the ride I was fine and I really enjoyed the experience. After I got off the ride, though--that was another story entirely. I was massively dizzy and had to sit for maybe 1/2 hour before I was able to get up and stumble to a bus back to the resort. I was finally cured by a Mickey bar, but that was hours later. BTW, the elapsed time was probably more curative than the Mickey bar, but Mickey helped!
Not fun...and not worth ruining the rest of the day for those with sensitive stomachs (or maybe even just normal stomachs).
Orange...definite no-no
Green...no-no for me, will let rest of family decide if they want it or not
(probably not bother with FP selection unless they think they want to give it a go)

What exactly is it? Is it simulation ride like Star Tours? Or more of a roller coaster or track ride? Also, is it bumpy or quick acceleration (if not a simulation ride)?

You've got a pretty good idea now I think! But here's a video that shows clearly at the very beginning what the ride mechanism is - it's a 360 degree video so you can scroll around to see the whole room. It's a centrifuge with the pods around the outside.

Mission Space Exit

I love Mission Space, I don't find it scary at all, I think the definition of the word scary is very subjective. I do understand however that claustrophobia can kick in - those pods are extremely small. Think of sitting in an aircraft seat with the seat in front very close to your face and then all enclosed.

The spinning motion of the Orange side is also unsettling. It feels very very weird when it first starts up for a couple of seconds but then you get used to it. Look straight ahead at the screen, don't look to the side.

The G-forces are quite strong. Have you ever been on an Enterprise? It's exactly the same (when the Enterprise is spinning horizontally) and is about the same size and speed, except with Mission Space you're facing towards the centre of the circle rather than facing the direction of spin.

Enterprise

It's not bumpy, except towards the end of the ride when you intentionally get a bumpy landing on the ground, but this is nowhere near the level of bumpiness you'd get on Star Tours for example, it's more of a gentle tilting from side to side. Overall, it's a very smooth ride, gentle acceleration in terms of the transition from normal to high G-force, although of course G-force is in itself acceleration.

My opinion is that you should try everything at least once, or you'll never know! Even if you hate it and get terrible motion sickness, that's life, and it's been an experience. Other people will have the opposite view, in that it's not worth spoiling the rest of your day if you're unwell. Try the Green side first.

I can handle most simulator rides but Mission Space is not my favorite. We did both Green and Orange and Green was ok, but on Orange I suddenly became very aware of how people die on rides...I hated orange! I will add, that I'm not super old either...no spring chicken but at the time I was only 37.

Thanks for the link so can see the pods that you sit in at the beginning.

Ah ok...We have a similar ride to the Enterprise at Canada's Wonderland. When I was younger, I actually loved that ride but I remember it made DH sick (before kids). Wouldn't go on it now due to my eye issues.

Its a medieval torture chamber makes peoples head spin and straps them in a severely confined space while doing it. I couldn't wait for it to be over.

I'm mildly claustrophobic, I mainly get it in crowds, although have in other spaces. i find this triggering, combined with the spinning I was unhappy.

What?!?!? Noooo!

My kids keep repeating that when we tell them to do anything they dont want to.

Us: Put your dishes in the skink
Them: What?!?!? Noooo!

It was funny the first day or two but now its getting a bit worn.

I am also mildly claustrophobic and you just reminded me of my 2015 MS Green experience which is making me question if I really want to do Orange with my girls this Summer because I know they would love it and I would feel uncomfortable with them going on their own.

Agree with the claustrophobia- never knew I had that problem til this ride.
I had been on this ride dozens of times and never had a problem. Then a couple of years ago we boarded, the door closed, the restraints were lowered, the panel moved into position, and... nothing happened. Having been on it many times, I knew what was supposed to occur but we just sat there. And sat there. And sat there. I realized then that there is no way to open anything, release the restraints, or communicate with the cast members outside. And I must admit it really freaked me out. I actually pulled out my phone to have something to distract me a bit while we waited. The ride eventually started and I'm sure the delay seemed much longer than it actually was, but it was at least 3 or 4 minutes. Very unsettling.

I had to force myself to get on it again next trip and I've been on it several times since but I now have that little bit of anxiety every time that I never used to have.

ETA: It's a great ride, though. My daughter and I do it every trip and love it.

Sound fun :crazy2: :scared1:

That's just the way the cookie crumbles!

Mission is NOT a simulator ride like star tours or SR. The initial responses as were right ....both sides are centripetal force rides that add a tilting vehicle component to simulate gforce pulls down on the body. On the orange side it then tilts that vehicle during periods of the ride and that is usually the most nauseous causing component of the ride for most.

This is an example of the ride without the vehicle that one probably has seen at fairs

I always think Roger Moore Moonraker 007 scene when I prep for this ride 😁

It has the after effects of a fantastic night of drinking.

But instead of that fantastic night to get there, you instead are strapped into a tight metal box, essentially blindfolded, and spun around for what feels like approximately 83 hours.

EDIT: Oh, and make sure you push that button when it lights up. It is very important.

Na... Mickey Bars cure everything including thinness.

I'm very much someone who is willing to try almost everything. I convinced my 6 year old to ride it, then had an internal freak out myself on the ride, he didn't. I read reviews and figured i'm tougher than that, I'm not. It sounds like you tried it so you know whether you can handle it.

I can do and love all roller coasters, the Tower of Terror, etc but last time I rode orange I couldn’t even make it out of the building. I moved slowly towards a bench right off the ride and sat there a while. It didn’t effect me when I was younger but late 30s I guess things have changed. ? Felt sick for a long time after. Not worth it even to try the green side.
