What do you think of "It's Tough to Be a Bug"?

I think after reading all these, I'll skip this with my DD5 and my DH, who has been known to be suprised (scared) by plastic bugs and snakes, let alone what you all have been describing. Thanks for the heads up.

Well each child is different, we all know that, but I took my son in 2003 he was 6 and it scared him so we went back this year and he was 8 and he still was scared by especially the dropping spiders and the seat thing. So I would be afraid to tell you what to do. Some younger kids love it and some hate it and its the same story with even the older kids. So.................... :confused3

We like this ride very much but I will say that I see more little kids escorted out than any other attraction. It is dark and there are loud noises. The part that scares most tots is when the spiders come down and when hopper sends out the wasps (bees?) to sting the audience.

It is almost as much fun to see the show as it is to pick out which kids will be scared and balling before the show starts! Kind of like a little game! :earseek:

You are so funny! Or maybe I shouldn't laugh at this...oh well :rotfl:

if you don't want to get stung, lean/sit slightly forward when the honets are told attack

My DS was ten when we first visited "Bug". He is sensitive to load noises and other "in you face" effects. He was okay at best with the movie but was terrified by the other effects. My DD (seven at the time) did better but had no interest in seeing it again (a good indicator of her enjoyment). Kids that are easily scared should stay clear, other kids won't be phased at all.

This is a must do at AK !!! It is one of our families favorites! Its so fun! If you think your 8yr old can handle it( you know your child best) after reading some of these threads, please give it a try! Enjoy! :sunny:

Something you may want to do if you have very small children: hold them on your lap during the show.

I absolutely loved this show last time I saw it in '98. My sons (12 and 14 at the time) enjoyed it, but did jump a couple of times. There's usually one or two posters (all different) on each thread about small children's reactions and they each have stories of how their children will ride everything else except "blank", so it's really varies from child to child and attraction to attraction. One that terrifies one 3 or 4 year old will be thoroughly enjoyed by another. I do think most parents know what their children are afraid of. My now 19 year old DS would not have been able to handle this show at 3, but was fine at 12. He was absolutely terrified of bugs then and still doesn't like them, but it's not the same and I wouldn't have subjected him (or anyone else) to it when he was under 8.

My DS has been on it every trip since he was 3 yrs old and loved it. He is 7 now. I loved it too but I can see how it could scare some kids. I will take my 2 1/2 year old on it in December, if he is scared we will go out.

My 8-year-old and 6-year old are not so scared of the movie because they don't put their 3-d glasses on. I've tried and tried to get them to wear the glasses, but they are scared. I try to tell them out much fun it is, but they refuse.

i loved it so much, but there are a few things that might scare the little ones, there is one time where spiders come down from the ceiling and at the end it feels like bugs are moving behind your back, there is some type of device in the benches but it was really great

My DS, 8, loves this show. We all do. Some people scream, I think that part kind of freaked him out, but that was about it. And he gets a little scared about alot of things.

I thought i would tell you my experience.

My 10 year old son whos alittle tough nut, was scared of this and cried and we had to calm him down.

On the other hand my daughter who was 6 at the time thought it was really fuuny and did not know what the fuss was about.

So i think it all depends on the child.

I loved the show but must admit on some places it did make me jumpy.

I was just wondering if the show "it's tough to be a bug" is scary for kids. I have an 11 and an 8 year old. The 8 year old isn't too keen on bugs! are they realistic looking or more cartoon-like?

My husband and I LOVED this attraction but, it was a bit spoiled because my kids were FREAKING out completely, I mean shaking and sobbing...seriously upset. They were 2 and 5 when we went. We can't get our older son near it still. I may drag him in this year since it's been 3 years now. Older kids would probably we fine, it is terriffic. I'd say if your kids are under 6 and over 6 months you may consider avoiding it.

base your decision on how well your kids do at other attractions.
My kids are thrill seekers, ride every roller coaster and enjoy the ununsual.
The first time we saw its tough to be a bug our kids were 6 and 4 years.
They LOVED it...and wanted to see it again.

The only person that didn't love it is my husband....
And on our upcoming trip he asked "Do we have to do the ITTBAB again?"
And of course the kids yelled "YES!"

I love this show....maybe if you just prepared them that they can leave at anytime they might surprise you and enjoy it!

The hornet sting does not hurt the average person. It is a light poke in the back; the surprise is startling, but funny.

I definately disagree, though I've never been to the show at Disneyworld, only Disneyland it sounds like they are exactly the same. Every person I've known who has been in the show said that the "sting" hurt. Not that it was excruciating, but way more forceful than need be for an attraction. I'm also not a lightweight when it comes to pain, I am covered in tattoos and I still think it hurt. It may depend on your height, but it hit me right in the spine, and it was not at all comfortable.

It's cute. Though, I'm not sure what happens when the bee comes out (I never sit back in the seats).

My son, age 4 LOVED this show. It was one of the few 3D shows that he kept the glasses on!

In 2004 it totally freaked out my DS, who was 6 years old. I was surprised. I thought he could handle it, but he was one of those kids who got upset & insisted on leaving before the end of the show. This past April we did not even try to do this attraction.
