What do you think of "It's Tough to Be a Bug"?

I love it, but when I know the bees are coming, I lean forward so I don't get "stung"--it creeps me out! :earseek:

Generally it is fun with the animated bugs causing mayhem on and off the screen. It is very loud though and has some startling effects.
SPOILERS:
There is a spot where the evil grasshopper lunges up out of a cave on one side of the theater acompanied by smoke and a loud noise. He is big enough to be firghtening but he is one of the best anamatronics at Disney.
The Black Widow Spiders that come down from the ceiling do so in a cloud of smoke that is wildly whipping through the theater. The effect is great but the spiders are the most realistic looking insects in the show and can be a bit intimidating.

i am pretty phobia ridden where it comes to bugs and i was nervous going in but it is pretty "fake" so it was cute...nothing made me sqeamish or creepy feeling

My husband and I saw this on our honeymoon, and we both agreed that we would never be the first people to take our children on this ride. If they insist on going when they are teenagers and we can't stop them as easily, then so be it, but we are never taking them on this ride. It is every bug-hater's worst nightmare...spiders dropping from the ceiling, stinging hornets, cockroaches...our children would never play outside again. Admittedly, my children are younger than yours, 6 and 4, but if you are taking anyone who is afraid of bugs, don't go on this ride. Yes, parts are cute, and parts are funny, but some of the bugs are scary and well, whether animated or not, they're still spiders, hornets and cockroaches.

We took my DD on this when she was 5 and she was scared the rest of the trip to do any indoor attractions. She wasn't the only kid crying either. :scared1:

Well we did its tough to be a bug last year when my now oldest daughter was 15 months and she was ok she didn't cry at all during the whole thing

I was just wondering if the show "it's tough to be a bug" is scary for kids. I have an 11 and an 8 year old. The 8 year old isn't too keen on bugs! are they realistic looking or more cartoon-like?

The 8yr old might get scared. There are a couple of parts of the show where it's dark. One segment the have fog and drop spiders down from ceieling. That part tends to bring out the crys in kids.

Nearly everytime I go there are at least one or two screaming kids in the audience. So not all are pleased by the effects.

On our last visit in December, it sounded like every kid in the audience was screaming and crying. So, expect it to be very loud. And I was not expecting to be "stung". Fortunately I was wearing a little backpack so the "sting" wasn't painful for me, but I could still feel the pressure. My husband, however, did say it hurt. I still think this is a great show, but if you have any doubts about your kids, I wouldn't do it.

We went in 2002 and DS was 4 and he loved it. I dont remember any kids crying at all. But when the bug comes by and feels like it bites you in the back, it hurts big time. I had een to the hospital two days before for kidsney stones and my back was hurting big time so that could have been it too but this year I will be putting something behind me and my younger son.

OK, so is there enough advance notice to lean forward? Do you see the hornet before it "stings" you?

My 8 yr old loved it! I had to leave the theater with my 6 yr old though. She tried to tough it out, but once the spiders started dropping from the ceiling, she'd had enough!

I've seen the show several times. For the most part, kids seem to love it, but there is usually one or two in the large crowd that do not. You know your kids better than anyone, so check it out first if you can and then decide if it would be ok for them.

The hornet sting does not hurt the average person. It is a light poke in the back; the surprise is startling, but funny.

This has always been my favorite 3D show, until Philharmagic came along.

When we were there 2 years ago, my kids were 6.5 yo. One DD & DS loved it. However, DH had to take other DD out. She freaked when the spiders came down. When we go back in 16 days :cool1: , I'm sure she will not be seeing it again.

In response to knowing when to lean forward....If you haven't seen the show before, I wouldn't want to assume you would know what special effect is coming when.

One option is to have the child sit on your lap. Then they won't feel any special effect that comes from the seat.

You might not want that to be the first 3D that you visit. Philharmagic and Muppet Vision are very pleasant shows. After those you could try Tough to Be a Bug and Honey I Shrunk the Audience. Both of those are a little scary for some kids.

DD has seen all of the shows except ITTBAB....she has a fear of bees/hornets and if I would like to avoid the "stinging" part but allow her to experience all of the other effects.

My DS (5) was scared to death during this show! When we return in March, he doesn't want to ride Dinosaurs, ToT, or see this show. Everything else was fine.

Totally in my opinion, this show is NOT scarry. The darkness, and suprise elements could make anyone jump, but the bugs are cartoon and lots of humor is used. I think an 8 year old will enjoy it, but communication is key. He is old enough to understand if you explain to him before hand that the element of suprise is used and that a part of the show is in darkness. If he KNOWS that, and understands that, and still wants to go, he'll love it!

Last year my DD (8 yr old then) did fine with the experience. We didn't know what would happen during the show and although she didn't particularly like the spider part, she was ok with it and she'd go again. I think the stink-bug made more of a lasting impression on her. If I'd known what to expect, I would have prepared her and I think she would have had more fun with it.

I loved the show. It was the only experience at wdw that I truly giggled at. It was pure fun.

We like this ride very much but I will say that I see more little kids escorted out than any other attraction. It is dark and there are loud noises. The part that scares most tots is when the spiders come down and when hopper sends out the wasps (bees?) to sting the audience.

It is almost as much fun to see the show as it is to pick out which kids will be scared and balling before the show starts! Kind of like a little game! :earseek:

All kids are different but my ds hated it at age 8 and still hates it at age 12. We didn't go to it when he was 9 but just went last month and he still was not happy at all. He doesn't like Honey, I shrunk the Audience but can tolerate it. It's tough to be a bug, he downright hates.
