What did WE celebrate? .. 30 days of Disney fun and food! Update 04/02

Day 24, September 6

Lunch at Wolfgang Puck's Cafe

Another day, another restaurant! :lmao:

Today we skipped breakfast altogether and went over to Downtown Disney Westside for lunch at Wolfgang Puck's Express.
We had eaten here before for dinner and while the food was really nice, apart from the bread, that had been sitting under the heat lamp for FAR too long, the service was not very good.
So we were really interested to see if that had only been a "bad" day.

We met Mary Ellen and Joe in front of the restaurant and checked in. There were several families waiting in the lobby but we were seated immediately. It was fun to see that we were led to exactly the same table we had had the last time.

Our server came by about 1 minute after we had been seated. He was real fun and helpful, offering to give recommendations on the food and taking our drinks orders.

We ordered appetizers for all to share.

One of them were the Crab Cakes - Sauteed Maryland Style crab cakes with marinated tomato basil aioli, garnished with micro greens. These were very good! Lots of yummy crab, just enough filler to keep it gether and the aioli was out of this world!

Our second appetizer was the Artichoke and Five Cheese Dip - California artichokes with mascarpone, fontina with crispy flat bread. It was such a yummy appetizer. The dip was rich and gooey and once we had munched away all the flatbread we used the bread to mop it all up! Too good to let something behind!

Next up were our main courses:

Joe ordered the Burger - served with cheddar, bacon and onions and a side of french fries. We did not hear any complaints! :lmao:

IMG_7660.jpg

Mary Ellen ordered the Chicken Aioli Pocket - Sliced chicken breast with mozzarella, chopped Romaine, diced tomatoes, and red onion with cilantro aioli and a side of house made chips. She was surprised at the sice of her sandwich and enjoyed it very much! She just wasn't able to finish it all - it's huge, we have had it before!

Tom had the Rigatoni with Beef Bolognese - Artisan pasta with braised beef, tomatoes and fresh basil. Another huge helping and very tasty indeed! :thumbsup2 The sauce was very rich and thick and very well seasoned. He liked it a lot.

Wolfgang Puck is famous for his pizza creations, so I HAD TO get one of them. The Spicy Shrimp Pizza, roasted eggplant, sauteed zucchini, Kalamata olives, sun dried tomatoes and prawns. And spicy it was!!!! But soooooooooo good! There were quite a few juicy prawns, lots of veg and the pizza base was thin and crispy. Spicy sauce and even more chili flakes on top! Loved it!!!!

None of us were really up for dessert, but Mary Ellen and I decided to sacrifice ourselves and for the sake of the DISboards .................... :rotfl2: we DID order dessert! :lmao: :lmao:

IMG_7668.jpg

Mary Ellen ordered the Florida Key Lime Pie - Swiss meringue with a buttery graham cracker crust. It got the :thumbsup2

IMG_7666.jpg

IMG_7667.jpg

I had the Classic Carrot Cake - Homemade cream cheese icing with candied pecans. This is one of the best carrot cakes I have ever had. Moist, and lots of icing.

Joe and Tom didn't want ANY dessert, so they just asked for coffee and got it! ;)

All in all a MUCH better experience than the last time! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

We had Free Disney Dining Plan which we had upgraded to the DxDDP. We booked through the British Disney Travel company and the cost for nine nights and 2 people was ....... 270 British Pounds = 420 $

So, we paid 420$ (difference between DDP and DxDDP) for 9 days of DxDDP! ;)

How much did we actually cost Disney?

36 snack credits
Wolfgang Puck's Cafe ...... 84,90 (2 DC ......... 30 DC remain)
2 Refillable Mugs ...... 29,80

Hi Karin!:goodvibes I'm back here trying to figure out where I left off before vacation, and I think I reread a little (which is NEVER a bad thing in your TRs!:thumbsup2) and I just wanted to say- YES! It was me at Yak & Yeti with the snowball martini! I had the grape one, I LOVED it!! I have to say, your wings looked delicious....I might have to fit them in somewhere....

Ok- back to catching up!

I am caught up!! I had to stop mid stream and figure out my November eating plan, everything looked sooooo good! :rotfl: You have written the third review I've read in 2 days praising Kouzzina- I think we'll go there our first night. :goodvibes We're not doing any parks that night, just checking in to BCV and staying local, probably going for a night time swim and enjoying the BW entertainment. :thumbsup2 Also think we'll do B&C on a pool day for lunch ( I have GOT to try that kitchen sink!!!), Y&Y for dinner (maybe), REALLY need to try Kona for dinner, too!! Anywhere else you'd like to tell me to go? Maybe I'll just let you plan the whole thing, since it looks like I'm just going to do whatever you two did, anyway! :rotfl2:

Wasn't that salmon incredible at AP? :worship: It WAS huge, but I cleaned my plate- YUMMMMMM-OOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! They had the BEST mussels there, too. If we were taking a trip without the kids this fall, I would put it back on the list- I enjoyed it THAT MUCH. But we have a loooooooong cruise instead in August this year.

Are you still on facebook? I posted a TON of pics from STJ- come say hello!:yay:

Oh Karin, Carrot Cake is one of my absolute faves and the WPC version looks delicious :cloud9:

More really YUMMY reviews! We need to figure out how to squeeze in a signature meal on our next trip. It isn't worth it with the kids but maybe we can get them a pizza and let them hang out in the room one night. They would probably love it!

I had that Chocolate Terrine when I was at Artist Point too. Seems you and I both go for anything with Valrhona Chocolate in the name. :rotfl:

Wow, we have to make sure we hit the WPE next time we're at the resort, it's like a hidden gem. Usually the family skips over anything that isn't in the parks or at a resort.

It all looks yummy!!!!!Great review as usual Karin!!

Thank you, Rosie!

Oh, and I am sure you WILL find a way to fit Yak and Yeti in! ;) :goodvibes

It's yum, yum, yum and it's so much fun, having it announced! When we get together with Mary Ellen and Joe we usually have it! :cloud9:

Thank you! I am glad you enjoy the trip reports! :goodvibes

Yummy WPE review, that pasta looks delish :)

Tom liked it a lot! :thumbsup2

That Kitchen sink looks scary :rotfl2:. I would like that but another of those things I'm not supposed to eat.:confused3. My DH would try to eat all of it so not a good idea to get one!

Your meal looked so tasty.

Oh Karin, Carrot Cake is one of my absolute faves and the WPC version looks delicious :cloud9:

If you like Carrot Cake, you HAVE TO try WPC's one! It is my favourite of all the carrot cakes around the "world". :thumbsup2

I am sure you would enjoy AP! I can really recommend the salmon - so good! And the Chocolate Terrine is to die for! ;)
Even better, if just the two of you could sneak away there! ;)

I had that Chocolate Terrine when I was at Artist Point too. Seems you and I both go for anything with Valrhona Chocolate in the name. :rotfl:

Did someone say Valrhona????? :rotfl2:
It's real good chocolate and I LOVE dark chocolate! Here in Europe we go for Lindt - which has wonderful chocolate treats.

That cheese dip looks amazing!!!!! :worship:

It was sooooooo good! I wish I had some right now! :goodvibes

Wow, we have to make sure we hit the WPE next time we're at the resort, it's like a hidden gem. Usually the family skips over anything that isn't in the parks or at a resort.

Any WP is worth "hitting"! ;) Be aware, that last review is from Wolfgang Puck's CAFE though - which is a table service restaurant! :goodvibes

We tried WPC for the first time in September and we really enjoyed it. It was a very pleasant surprise!

:thumbsup2 Glad you enjoyed it! We reall LOVED it this time. The last time we were there we went for dinner and felt a little rushed!

Oh, what a shame you should avoid the Kitchen Sink. We attempted one when Mary Ellen's brother and friends were with us - we were six people attacking it and it still defeated us! ;) :lmao:

You should try WPC - it's a wonderful place to eat! We had a table overlooking the lake last time we dined there and it was wonderful!

I do not care for salmon but dh loves it. I have seen plenty of other great things I would eat there though! I was suprised to see neither you or Tom had the mushroom soup - that seems to be a popular choice!

Karin,
Pure torture, why do I do this to myself, everything looks so good. I need to read your reports after a very big meal. Great post, and pictures.
