Disney Wonder - dinner at Palo
After sailing out of Nassau we delivered some Fish Extender gifts, before chilling on the verandah.
Later that evening we got ready and walked up to Palo for dinner. We asked if we could be seated in Oliver's section again and yes, it was possible. Well, it IS Disney after all! They MAKE it happen!
It took about two minutes until we were led to our table. We were seated at a 4 top next to the window. Oliver came over and joked with us, then heading off to get some water while we had a look at the menu. When Oliver brought our water we ordered a
Whisky Sour and a
Strawberry Daiquiri.
While we were waiting for our drinks Oliver brought out the Pane Casalingo, Freshly-baked Bread from their Pizza Oven, Grissini Sticks, Olive Rolls, Ciabatta Rolls and Six Grain Wholemeal,
and Palo's Famous Dips, olive tapenade, aioli and roasted pepper & garlic
and finally the Specialita' Del Palo: Antipasto Freddo, Prosciutto, Bresaola, Parmesan Reggiano, Marinated Olives and Sun-dried Tomatoes. We placed our order for starters and main course and started to nibble on the wonderful things on the plates in front of us.
A short time later Oliver returned with our starters. Tom had the Fritto di Calamari, Lightly-crusted Calamari served with Deep-fried Cherry Peppers. These were so good, very tender with a batter fried to a perfect crisp. Tom loved it, and so did I ..... I stole a few pieces.
Needless to say that Oliver, perfect server that he was, squeezed Tom's lemon on his Calamari!
I had the Tuscan Minestrone Soup scented with fresh Basil. This was a huge plate full of soup. Not the Minestrone we are used to and a little underseasoned, but still very nice. Add a little salt and it was perfect!
Once we had finished our starters Oliver brought out the Palate Cleanser.
Lime sorbet
It did not take long for our entrees to be served.
Tom had ordered the Grilled Sea Scallops with Borlotti Beans and Pancetta
Served with a Tomato Borlotti Bean Sauce. He was really happy with his choice. The Scallops were tender and cooked perfectly and the sauce and Beans accompanied it very well. I would have never thought that beans and scallops went so well together.
There was one dish I had wanted to try for a long time, ever since Michele got Tom a tasting order on our 2009 cruise, the Lobster and Mascarpone Ravioli, freshly prepared, served with a light Truffle Beurre Blanc. They were light and there were nice chunks of lobster and the Truffle Beurre Blanc was the icing on the cake!
When it came to ordering dessert I asked Oliver about the Tiramisu and he kind of talked me out of it, since it was not your usual Italian Tiramisu. So I asked Oliver to choose a dessert for me.
He brought out a Panna Cotta. Sweet, White Cream Custard with fresh Berries, which was light and wonderful, especially when paired with the strawberries.
Tom knew what he wanted, so he ordered the Pineapple and Almond Ravioli.
Lightly Poached Pineapple filled with an Almond Mousse. All I can say is ...... it got

Well, there was a little surprise as well. Since Oliver knew how much we loved the
Chocolate Soufflé, with Vanilla Bean and Chocolate Sauce, he brought one out for us to share, so we would not leave hungry!!
We shared all three desserts and were stuffed to the gills!
But there was still the digestive to enjoy!
Lemoncello with lime sorbet! They should offer that EVERYWHERE, it is just so good! We both really enjoyed it!
We chatted a little more with Oliver, who told us that they had to set up the BBQ stations at Castaway Cay and that there was lots of extra work, as they had a special crew BBQ for the CMs at Cookie's 2. He had a good laugh when we told him we would be back for the brunch two days later and he made sure we would request to be seated in his area again.
We said our goodbyes, then walked back to our stateroom to find this little guy.
Arturo, the stateroom host had left another towel animal in our room.
