What did WE celebrate? .. 30 days of Disney fun and food! Update 04/02

I am just drooling Karin !!I have to go for the Free Cruise in 2012 !!Now I may just mention I would be available this year if they needed someone !!!

finally caught up, I have to say thank you for taking the time to take pictures for the food review. I was going to do a food review and tried to take pictures but my son wanted my attention, I have to cut his food and prep it and then I'm drooling over my food and then I forget and then my husband would say...don't you feel bad you ate all the food and didn't take the pictures (I said why didn't you remind me...he would say I'm too busy eating the food before it gets cold:lmao:). Our 5 yr old would take my old camera and take pictures but then when we are waiting for rides, he decides that the food pictures is taking room from the memory card b/c he wants to do video :rotfl:

This is a cliffhanger, Karin! I can't wait to hear what your "pleasant surprise" was at dinner... I bet it wasn't the reappearance of Mr. K-I-A! ;)

:scared1: I didn't want to let you hanging .......... :lmao: But what was waiting for us at the beginning of the new cruise was definitely a wonderful "surprise".

Karin, I am still here. Work has been awfully busy, I wanted to get my TR done and now I'm trying to catch up on all the ones I'm subscribed to. Everything the last couple of updates looks mostly scrumptious and you know how much we want to try the cruise (2013 for our 30th anniversary is my goal).

:wizard: Here's to hoping and wishing for the 2013 cruise!
I know how it is Kathy. I was behind on MOST of my subscribed threads for quite a while after I returned home from Vienna. :sad2:
Hope work gets less busy soon, so you can catch your breath again!

Karin - I'm really loving your cruise report! The food looks good...just sorry you got saddled with Mr Know It All. Hopefully the company on the 2nd cruise was better?

I'll be keeping up with your reports through Friday, but then we leave for Russia! Yes, we finally got the call to make our first trip! We fly through Copenhagen on the way over, and through Munich on the way back. Familiar with either of those airports? Anything good to eat? :lmao:

:thumbsup2 for company on our second cruise! And bye, bye Mr. Know It All.

party: Congratulations on your trip to Russia! party:
I can't believe that after all you have been through it is finally time to get to meet your new little princess! Hope everything works out the way you planned it! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Sorry, not familiar with Copenhagen and we have only used Munich once or twice, so I won't be very helpful on restaurants there! :lmao: We always use Frankfurt!
Even though I can tell you that airport food here in Europe is just so so! Don't forget to wave down on Austria when you fly over! :wave2:

I am just drooling Karin !!I have to go for the Free Cruise in 2012 !!Now I may just mention I would be available this year if they needed someone !!!

The best is yet to come, Rosie! Cruise food is really yummy - and FREE!!! :rotfl2:
Get your application in for that free cruise, you are going to love it! :thumbsup2

I know how it feels. Sometimes Tom needs to remind me to take a photo before digging in too!
I totally get that a 5yr old would be more interested in a ride video than food photos for mommy's friends! ;) :lmao:

But honestly, I CANNOT believe that your trip is already over and you are back! Where did the time go????????? :scared1:

Still Day 16, August 29

Disney Wonder - Dinner at Animator's Palette

Before we sailed out we had been told that the cruise would be a little rough, due to the remnants of a storm. You could feel the ship rocking but it wasn't too bad, guess it helped that we had been on board for 3 days already!

So after the show we went to have dinner at Artist's Palette. That is one restaurant we had missed on our previous trips, so we were eager to get there on time to see the restaurant change colour.

We arrived there first and soon after us another couple arrived, they didn't say much, sat at the opposite end of the table and discussed with the waiter which drinks would help their upset stomachs. Side note - by that time the waters were rough and the ship rocking quite a bit.
They got their drinks, but after one little sip they got up and left.

Shortly after they had left the third couple at our table arrived. They were really friendly people and sat down opposite us. It was time to order and Tom and I ordered some drinks.

Renaissance, Vodka Raspberry, Triple Sec, Raspberry Purée, Lime Juice, Sparkling Wine and

IMG_6839.jpg

Artist's Impression, Absolut Vanilla, Frangelico, Passion Fruit Purée and Orange Juice. To be honest I cannot remember who had what, but both drinks were very nice.

We ordered our starters ......

IMG_6841.jpg

I ordered the Wild Mushroom Risotto and Porcini Twist, served with Parmigiano-Reggiano and Black Truffle Oil - very nice!

Tom had the

IMG_6842.jpg

Ahi Tuna Tartare, with Caviar, Chives, and Wasabi Cream, which he really enjoyed.

Now here is where the surprise comes in ........

While we were enjoying our starters we talked to the other couple. They were very nice and enjoying their first Disney cruise. So we talked about excursions and our first cruise and what we had experienced. I cannot remember how and why we came to talk about having learned a lot about Disney and Disney cruises on the internet.
I mentioned that I love one particular board and she said, that she was a lurker on a board too! Now guess which board we both were talking about - the DISboards! :rotfl2:
I KNEW that this time we were in luck! We had been blessed with wonderful table mates! :goodvibes

Hi Teri1! :wave2: It was wonderful to get to meet you on board! :goodvibes

IMG_6843.jpg

Alex, the server, recommended the Lemon-Thyme Marinated Chicken Breast, on top of Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes, Roasted Root Vegetables, and Grain Mustard Jus. He was right, the chicken was moist and had an ever so light thyme scent.

IMG_6844.jpg

Tom ordered the Shere Khans Asian Marinated Beef Short Ribs on Smashed Yucca topped with Wok-fried Bok Choy. Tom gave it a happy :thumbsup2!

Since Teresa and I chatted a lot in between and during courses we were way behind and should have had dessert served when the "show" started.

IMG_6833.jpg

IMG_6848.jpg

We had to wait until after the show to order our desserts.

IMG_6858.jpg

Tom had the No Sugar Added Chilled Lemon Soufflé with Raspberry Drizzle. Now, he developed a hand for picking really good desserts this trip, as this was another heavenly one.

IMG_6851.jpg

Greedy me went for the sampler! Animator's Sweet Temptations
A Trio of Strawberry Sable, Cranberry and Orange Cheesecake, and Double-Fudge Chocolate Cake

IMG_6853.jpg

Strawberry Sable, nice but the cookies were a bit on the dry side.

IMG_6854.jpg

IMG_6856.jpg

Double-Fudge Chocolate Cake, very chocolatey - I LOVE chocolate, so I loved the cake! ;)

IMG_6857.jpg

Orange Cheesecake - did not have much orange taste, but the cheesecake was nice.

We were nearly the last people to leave the restaurant and by that time it was swaying from side to side and we had a hard time walking straight, but at least we did not feel sick.

IMG_6861.jpg

When we got back to our stateroom, our host Arturo had left us another towel surprise!

Next up - Disney Wonder - a Bahamian treat for breakfast

Okay, I WANT that double chocolate cake RIGHT now! It is screaming my name.

So fun that you met a DISer on the cruise. :)

:lmao:

Meeting Teresa and her husband Mickey (YES, that IS his name) on the cruise was so much fun! They are wonderful people! :thumbsup2

I have not been on the disboards for a few weeks,(let someone make me mad for questioning my existence since I have been a member forever but have few posts, a dreaded lurker). Also been too stressed to think about Disney, my work has been stressful having just heard my employer may be considering outsourcing my job. I am praying every day that it won't happen.
Have the day off and thought I would check on my good friend Karin and was pleasantly surprised you were talking about me and it was something nice.:) I am really enjoying re-living our lovely cruise on the wonderful Wonder.;) You and Tom helped make it more memorable. Too bad we can't cruise the same time as the both of you, but if you will still be in Orlando on Sept. 10th maybe we can plan a meet.

AMAZING update, those desserts are making me drool. I want to go to a DIsney cruise but my husband does not do well with cruise. Next year the new ship and some departures I think might be from NYC, my son make a comment when we took our first Magical Express back to the airport and he saw a commercial and asked why we dont try cruise and he would love to go on a ship:rotfl2:...I said asked Daddy. Will see
I used to be a big lurker but I love reading the food section and then got into Nicki and then started participating.

WOW! First of all, we got your surprise today and just want to say thank you. There are pictures and a full report over on my PTR. :dance3::hug:

What delicious looking food. Really makes me want to try a cruise....and the you start talking about rough seas. I'm afraid that my husband and I might be among the sick people! We don't do so well with rocking boats! But then again...there is Dramamine for that, right?

Another great update Karin :goodvibes

Did you take anything to stop feeling sea-sick or where you just OK with all the swaying?

I'm fairly sure I would be ill

Hey, K. I'm back. We had a GREAT time. I'll post a food report here as soon as I get all caught up and "Christmas-Ready."

I did get all caught up with your report, though (gotta have your priorities, you know!:woohoo:). Lovin' it!

Hi Teri! Sorry to hear about your work situation. I am keeping my fingers crossed everything will work out to your favour in the end!

It's nice to have you check in here again! And just in time for the fun of our cruise together to start! :goodvibes
We really enjoyed our cruise together with you!
As for Sept. 10th, that is the day we need to fly home, but our flight only leaves at 8pm, so we'll be at the parks until the late afternoon. If that is convenient for you, we can work something out! :woohoo:

Won't a Disney cruise make it easier for him? ;)
Guess you need to get your son working "his" magic on your DH!

Glad you got the surprise! :thumbsup2 AND I am glad Max enjoys his Advent's Calendar! :goodvibes
Actually, the rocking was not that bad at all. It was only the one day you could really feel it a lot. And then we were cruising during Hurricane Season - so I guess any other season will have a smooth sailing. AND there ARE lots of meds around! ;)

Wonderful update !!Your pix are great!!!

Thank you, Rosie! :flower3:

I'm fairly sure I would be ill

Actually the first year we went on the cruise I bought a lot of meds before we went. Didn't know if I would feel the boat moving and if it would affect me/us.
But we never used any of it. And with the rough seas during our second cruise, I guess we had developed "sea legs". Walking was a bit odd, but neither Tom nor I felt sick or anything. I guess if you are prone to motion sickness it will help to have a cabin where you can actually see the horizon.

Welcome back, Tina!
Now that went pretty quick! Are you sure you didn't get home too early? ;) :lmao:

PLEASE, let me know when you start your food review! I am dying to "tag along"! ;)
Thanks for putting me on your list of priority threads! I feel VERY honoured!

Day 17, August 30

Disney Wonder - Bahamian snack for breakfast

During the night it sometimes felt like Captain Henry wanted to roll us out of bed, but in the morning, we had left the rough seas and we were even able to watch a beautiful dawn.

IMG_6867.jpg

A little later we pulled into Nassau.

IMG_6877.jpg

IMG_6890.jpg

We had planned on having breakfast at one of the restaurants, but instead we just had a lie in!

So during mid morning we decided to try one of the treats we had bought in Nassau during the previous cruise

IMG_6891.jpg

IMG_6892.jpg

Rum cake! Very moist and sweet and full of rum. We shared one and it was more than enough for the two of us.

I have to report that when we finally made it into Nassau we bought a variety box of rumcakes in all different flavours to take home and "a little more" rum! :rotfl2:

Next up - Disney Wonder - Triton's for lunch

I love those rum cakes- although I've only ever had the ones made in the Caribbean, I think. Can't wait to see how you spend your day!!!

Ooooh....that rum cake has me drooling. I haven't had anything since 8 this morning as I've been too busy at work to go and get lunch. I best get home for dinner and have something to eat, I guess.

Now I don't drink alcohol BUT I do on occasions eat it !!:rotfl2:Such as in Sherry Trifle and Rum Cake !!!

Look at all that deliciously wonderful food, looks soooo good! Everytime I read your reviews on the cruises I feel a slight pang and excitement for next year :teeth:

Cool that you met a fellow Diser on the trip and that you got along great.

Ahh those rum cakes look sooooo good, I know where our first point of call will be in Nassau

Hope your box arrives soon, will be a week tomorrow and I am kinda regretting not sending it tracked :sad1:
