What are your NEW YORK CITY must do's?

Wow! Thanks so much for your input everyone! I am going to print this thread off for future reference.

I have some questions.....

Regarding Theatre Shows....we have three youngish children, which other shows (apart from Lion King & Beauty and the Beast) would be suitable? I was thinking that one night just DH and I would catch a show (my brother will be in NYC at the same time and offered to watch the kids)...which show would you recommend then?

Where is the World of Disney Store (address?)

Where is the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory?

Where is the Magnolia Bakers?

=======================================
Thanks again to each and everyone one of you who helped.

The Museum of Natural History sounds great, as do many of the other suggestions.

Thanks!!!

Oh, and something else....I heard about some restaurant on a lake in Central Park, with boats available to rent on the lake...anybody know anything about this???

Thanks!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is opening in late March. The kids may love it.

You probably shouldn't miss the Museum of Natural History and Rose Center. The Hayden Planetarium at the Rose Center is a must see. Get tickets for a space show. The kids will love it. The rest of the museum is spectacular also....especially the dinosaur displays in the Museum of Natural History.

:teeth: That is excellent news! It's in London and the kids wanted to go but I said we wouldn't be able to afford it because we would be seeing a show or two in New York. This will be a definite must-see for us while we are there!

I think we will do Lion King and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and then maybe another for just me and DH.

Thanks!

Where is the World of Disney Store (address?) 5th Ave and 55th Street, just south of Central Park, on the east side of 5th.

Where is the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory? Don't know. I'd look on www.citysearch.com to find it. I rarely go into Brooklyn.

Where is the Magnolia Bakery? Corner of Bleeker & 11th Street.

Central Park Loeb Boathouse, for drinks and lunch: Off the lake if you enter the park around 74th Street, just ask anyone where the "Boathouse" is. Contrary to popular opinion, we New Yorkers are a friendly lot!!

Have fun!

My wife and I live on the Upper West Side and are members of the Museum of Natural History. By far our fav museum in the city. You could easily spend 2 days in this place alone. The Planetarium shows are great and they give many incredible lectures year round about every topic imaginable. Don't burn yourselves out!!!

Lion King is great, saw it quite a while ago though and don't know much about the current cast. We just went to opening night for Monty Python's Spamalot last week! Hilarious!! Next Friday, we've got tickets for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf with Kathleen Turner, which is getting rave reviews. I've also heard good things about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with John Lithgow. Also saw Hurlyburly with Ethan Hawke last month. Good but pretty dark.
Make sure you order your tickets out way in advance. The TKTS booths do have 50% tickets, but the seats aren't great. If you're coming here on vacation, spend the extra $50/ticket and get good seats. There's great value in spending the extra $$$.

Dont forget to walk the Brooklin Bridge , and then a small walk on the Brooklinn promenade !
