The Other Boleyn Girl-- new movie coming out with Scarlett Johansen and NAtalie Portman- Ilike it so far - it is about Anne Bs sister Mary and her affair with Henry 8 and stuff- historical fiction

After I'm done reading Unfinished Business, which for some reason I'm not reading that quickly, I'm going to read The Sharper Your Knife, The Less You Cry. Has anyone else ever read that?

Oh why have I heard of this?? Whats it about??

I am reading with my 1st grader Book 4 of the Spiderwick Chronicles (we are really enjoying these . My DS almost lost it when Mallory kept saying "cr*p" he cracked up and kept asking me "Mommy could you read that part again I missed it" and then he'd crack up "she said a bad word") We also read Kingdom Keepers.

I just finished Jeff Shaara's book on the American Revolution. Very good. I am rereading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Princewhile I'm waiting to go to the library and get Jeff Shaara's 2nd book on the American Revolution.

I'm finally reading "Angela's Ashes." I'm about a quarter of the way through it and frankly, I'm not enjoying the experience. The family is dirt poor, the father comes home drunk and makes them sing patriotic Irish songs, one of his brothers or sisters dies, etc. So they move back to Ireland, where they're even poorer, more kids die, and the father drinks away his paycheck and makes them sing Irish songs.

It's just one damn thing after another. I'm about ready to give up.

Its funny I was in Limerick in 2000 and we were in a Pub (I know hard to believe) and my Dad mentioned Angela's Ashes ~ well the people in the Pub got really upset and were calling Frank McCourt a liar and saying "and how can you be saying your families dirt poor and have pictures to show for it??" This man was the same age and knew the McCourts and he said "My family didn't have money to waste on photos when we were hungry. It went to food and a roof over our heads" Well I never thought of that . That in those days you wouldn't spend money you needed to eat on photos , a luxury back then. Makes you go HMMMMMM:scratchin

My family and I have a theory...we think his wife wrote it. It was shortly after his recovery from the accident, I think. Or she finished it because it is comparable to her book.

Actually, I felt that Tabby wrote or co-wrote several of his books BEFORE the accident. Bag of Bones, Rose Madder and Gerald's Game are a few examples. He has the female "voice" down pat in these books and it just didn't seem possible that King wrote them himself.

Yet I see his style in each.

But I did think that Tabby helped

I'm reading Dean Koontz The Darkest Evening of the Year. It's just ok. His early books were really good and I got hooked them but now it seems that both him and Stephen King are just pushing it and putting out books just because they are expected to have something new every year or two.

7TH HEAVEN- James Patterson

Oh I just finished that this afternoon! I read it in a weekend which is very rare for me to do. After Patterson's last few (disappointing I thought) it was nice to read his older style of writing. Enjoy it!
Karen

oh-DH asked me if he had to read all of the women's murder club books to understand 7th Heaven. I don't think he does...what do you think?

Actually, the Fanning girls are not going to play the sisters. Here's the scoop from Wikipedia:

Dakota and Elle Fanning were originally set to play the sisters but Dakota changed her mind when she found out she would have to shave her head to play the Leukemia-suffering character of Kate. When they dropped out they were replaced with Sofia Vassilieva and Abigail Breslin.

Sophia is 15 yo and Abigail is 11 yo. That age range sounds about right for the girls in the book.

Oh wow, I'm surprised but happy. I was not sure how I felt about the Fanning sisters playing the sisters in the book. Thanks for the news!

I'm reading Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. almost done.

How are these books? I've heard so much about them, and was wondering if they're worth the read. Also, what is the order that you read them in? Thanks!

Just yesterday finished Jodi Piccoult's My Sister's Keeper. LOVED IT! Had no idea it was going to be a movie! Interesting!

I just finished "Into the Wild" and started one in spanish "El Plan Infinito" (Isabel Allende) I read one in english and then one in spanish. Isabel Allende is one of the best latin American writers.

Her books are in english as well, she's amazing. :flower3:

Her book Paula, was one of the saddest, most moving books I have ever read. I read it many years ago.

Really? I never thought of it that way.:confused3 But you DO have a point.;) About 2 years ago, didn't he say he was retiring from writing, and he had 1 book left? What was that ONE book?:confused3

Last week I read the 3 Dragonriders of Pern books (by Anne McAffrey), and now I'm rereading The Bourne Supremacy (it's my favorite of the Bourne Series).

I am now reading Pop Goes the Weasel by James Patterson...It's the Alex Cross series that I just started last fall...I did not like Jack and Jill in the series but the others were good...

I just bought the Bourne books but I am still missing the 1st one...When I find it, I will give them a try.

I'm reading "Sharp Objects" and it's ok. My book club picked it. Next up is "Into the Wild" (which is now a movie) by Jon Krakauer.

Wow, I just finished Sharp Objects a couple of days ago and I was so freaked out by it that I had to pick up a Dorthea Benton Frank novel to shake off the heebie jeebies. I really liked Sharp Objects, perhaps because I work in the mental health field, but it was definitely disturbing.

Dorthea Benton Frank- Island of Palms is excellent. She may be one of my favorite woman southern writers.

Kate0305: Good idea underlining the titles. Makes them pop in the post!

I just finished Steve Martin's autobiography "Born Standing Up. A comic's life". It's only about his years as a stand up comic.
Not a funny book at all but it had humourous moments. It's a quick read and a poignant look into his stand up career.

My book just finished The Knitting Club. I really disliked it. I thought it was like reading a soap opera, sappy and predictable.Bleah.
